Like a 1992 prom gone wrong, Telepathique 's new video showcases those days when you dressed up and took someone to the dance that you weren't exactly sure you were in love with, but were sure would please the parents (or in my case, would kind of disgust the parents). Either way, the video curiously explores the tangents of youth ritual. Not sure what the point is, but this Brazilian electro duo are still bubbling under my radar. The debut album Last Time on Earth hits U.S. stores today. Heads up NYC! [...]

CSS, Donkey (Sup Pop, 2008) MP3 : "Rat Is Dead (Rage)" After a whirlwind of touring, partying and fame CSS - everybody's favorite Brazilian art-punk collective - is back with Donkey the follow up to their self-titled 2006 debut. Donkey is fun, brash, and dirty - but a little slicker than its predecessor and with a little more maturity thrown in. But not too much maturity. Even an emotionally heavy song like [...]

I don't know why, but lately every other music block I check out has been posting The Black Kids ' remix of Lykke Li 's " I'm Good I'm Gone " like one of them just died. Since my sources tell me they are both alive, and the remix is far from new, I am going to assume its just to show up at the top of some mp3 blog aggregator. Well, in my opinion there are much better Lykke Li remixes out there, so I thought I'd do you all a little favor and post my two favs. First, check out this [...]

Will the JacuzziKillers.com + Brazil love affair ever end? I feel like Kobe Bryant (cheating Kobe, not raping Kobe) turning my back on all the great local NYC music out there, but as long as Brazil keeps sending over the gold, I have no choice but to post it. I have to be honest, when I first heard Bo$$ In Drama , I wasn't crazy about his music. In my opinion though, the most listenable, long-lasting music, is the stuff that you aren't quite sure about, but slowly grows on you over time. [...]

For something fun, I ran into Brazilian band Kronx . Continuing the recent trend were everything good must be an import, this guys are form Rio de Janerio and can I say how awesome are they; with a mixture of guitar, drums and electric synths it makes it really easy to get into. I'm also including a mix they did on 06 but its still pretty banging. Kronx mix 1 Kronx - Hipster [...]

Honestly, even though its cool to say you do, I really don't love the 80's...but I am definitely going to recognize that despite all the $hit that came out of that confused decade, there was some great music made that heavily influences what we all listen to today. The guys over at the Buffet Libre project (translation: Free Buffet) in Spain have managed to capture many of the great, influential songs of the 80's and have them covered by our favorite alternative artists of the late 2k's. The best part about this though, is that they are all [...]
Yeah, baby!! We're planning a little trip to Rio. This festival is better over there. 24 OCT: RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - TIM FESTIVAL // Tickets On-Sale: Sept 2008 >> 25 OCT: SAO PAULO, BRAZIL [...]

Even though I didn't plan on posting anything until tomorrow, a friend of JacuzziKillers.com , knowing we are HUGE fans over here, just sent over The Twelves ' two latest original tracks. He didn't say where they came from or verify their authenticity, but I checked their myspace page and they do have these posted as "demos", so they are legit. After doing a little more research, I found that they had sent these tracks out to a few labels and received positive feedback...but it couldn't have been too positive or else these probably wouldn't be circulating the blogsphere. Both very [...]

This post marks two milestones for jacuzzikillers.com . First off, after getting these killer tracks from NRK (formerly New Rave Kids On The Block), I decided it was about time to give Brazil its own catagory on the site. We've already posted great stuff by CSS , Database , and The Twelves ; now with NRK and tracks coming from Bo$$ In Drama , Midnight Martyn of Database, and others, I think it was only right that this breeding ground for fun original music get its due recognition. Second, this will [...]

Tropicalia refers to Tropicalismo , a widely diverse cultural movement that sprang from urban 1960s Brazil. The best thing about the sound is the combination of old and new. A tenant of Tropicalia is cultural cannibalism, which is defined as the consumption of all possible cultural products and then repurposing those products into art that makes sense in a specific cultural context. I first became interested in Tropicalia through [...]

Rochetster, New York's Kill The Noise has been all over the place. Just recently they played Webster Hall here in NYC alongside UK's The Whip , and they have also toured with blog favorites Designer Drugs and ATL's Treasure Fingers . You can catch them out in LA this Saturday with N.E.R.D. , MSTRKRFT , A-Trak , Bloody Beetroots , Kid Sister , Spank Rock , LA Riots , and a bunch more. This first remix turns Cansei de Ser Sexy's (CSS) [...]

CSS's new album "Donkey" is an outstanding follow-up to their self-titled international debut album "Cansei de Ser Sexy" from 2006. For those that still aren't familiar with the group, their song "Music Is My Hot Hot Sex" was used on an ipod touch commercial and this led to their commercial success with the group becoming the highest charting Brazilian group in the history of the Billboard Chart. Their main source of success up until their apple debut was the internet, and now the group hits the airwaves with a focused work that has them poised for even greater success. I [...]

I first discovered the Brazilian duo Database over at bigstereo.net after a remix they did for fellow countrymen New Rave Kids On The Block's (aka NRK) track " Vivian The Whore Next Door " was posted. I've been following them ever since...and ever since its been nothin but gold! It seems like Brazil is becoming the next Australia (or the next next Paris) becoming the focus of the party-music blog sphere, and I have absolutely no problem with that. Also, the guys are doing something totally cool over on their myspace page between [...]

Had a request for more Latin Alternative sounds, and I hope this will help quench that thirst. I had not heard of 3 Na Massa (not to be confused with 3 Na Bossa ) before this disc zipped across my desk like a hummingbird seeking the first nectar of spring. And I still know very little, so perhaps I should let the band do the talking: 3 Na Massa was founded by Rica Amabis, Pupillo and Sucinto Silva aka Dengue in São Paulo. Pupillo and Dengue play drums and bass while Rica is the magic [...]

If you wanted to, you could call Os Ipanemas the Brazilian version of the Buena Vista Social Club. But I don't want to. What I do want is to try to describe their fresh Afro-Brazilian sound. Fresh even though the band began back in 1962. Led by septuagenarians Wilson Das Neves (percussion, vocals) and Neco (guitar), the band oozes smooth charm without lapsing into cliche. These two endow the group with a wealth of experience, having recorded and toured the likes of Elis Regina, Tom Jobim, Wilson Simonal, Jorge Ben, Chico Buarque and Elza Soares. Wilson [...]

Note: Read on for a contest to win the City of Men Soundtrack CD I'm not a huge soundtrack fan. You might guess that from the space they don't occupy here at SoundRoots. Sure, I rave about the odd Bollywood soundtrack and about films specifically about the music, such as One Giant Leap or Genghis Blues . But there are exceptions to every rule. And this rule is bent by the fantastic soundtrack to [...]

Antonio Adolfo, Brazil & Brazuka: Destiny (Far Out Recordings) After listening to Destiny , I felt compelled to pull out Sergio Mendes' 2006 release Timeless . Adolfo and Mendes were contemporaries, after all, and their recent releases both hail back in some ways to that 1960s heyday of their Brazilian pop stylings. But while Mendes brought in contemporary artists – most prominently the Black Eyed Peas – to build a bridge between old and new, Adolfo takes a dramatically different [...]
