This is the second showcase we'll be a part of at SXSW! We already announced our participation with Bloodshot Records SXSW 2008 Showcase on Friday at Yard Dog. On Wednesday, we'll also be a sponsor at Go Entertainment's SXSW 2008 Showcase at Scoot Inn. They have a great mix of bands full rock and roll, some singer-songwriter, and a dash of twang. I don't think this is the final schedule, so don't hold us to it. Leatherbag and a few other bands were added since this schedule was released. You can sample the [...]

Another set that should have been posted a couple of weeks ago. Enjoy. 01. The Cribs - " Don't You Want To Be Relevant? " ( buy ). Seriously, this is what their B-sides sound like?!?!? It's amazing. I love the way this one kicks right in and even though I don't quite get these lyrics, I do love the " your onstage antics out in Leeds were tailor-made to suit men's needs ". [...]

There's rarely a shortage of live music to check out on any given night in Austin, Tx, but occasionally you have those nights where you have several good options, forcing you to make decisions that you don't really want to make. Tonight would be one of those nights. Local talent in live abundance: @ Emos 101x Homegrown Live w/Tacks The Boy Disaster, Brazos, & Til We're Blue or Destroy $5 9:30p Til We're Blue or Destroy 10:30 Brazos 11:30 [...]
The coolest thing about Texas is the city of Austin, and one of the coolest things coming out of Austin right now is the band Brazos . Ironically, the first track here was created in less than cool circumstances. According to our friend Larry at Future Sounds, "Mrs. Virginia" was crafted in a tiny bedroom with no air conditioning. In the dead of summer. In Texas. That's crazy because Texas is the hottest state in the union. Seriously, it's probably 100 degrees in Texas right now. If we lived in Texas we'd probably need air conditioning in our underwear [...]

Is there anything more interesting to consider than what an artist's potential is? After all, with so much music being made these days the easiest way to break it down is to seek out those who appear to have bright futures. This way, with each effort they release there is at least some hope for improvement and new ideas, and not just the same music with different lyrics. Of course, along with this approach comes the inevitable disappointment in finding out that you latched onto an act that peaked with whatever attracted you to them to begin [...]

Brazos - "Mary Jo" Is that a chord organ at the beginning? Maybe a synth that sounds like a chord organ or an accordion? It's some kind of fun air-moving-to-create-sound instrument, and it's producing the speedy riff that opens this song and makes you want to dance with it right away. But where this songs starts is not where it ends. That melody is relayed to a guitar along the way and gradually gives in entirely as this little heartbreak song from Texas builds into a fuzzy shoegazer with a soaring "hoooooo" with which [...]

Arms and Legs - "Alice" The Velvet Underground - "Stephanie Says" Donovan - "Jennifer Juniper" The Beatles - "Michelle" Papercuts - "Sandy" Brazos - "Mrs. Virginia" Of Montreal - "Penelope" Beck - "Debra" Tacks, The Boy Disaster - "Matilda" Pink Floyd - "Julia Dream" besos.

My oh my, how time flies. It's already September, which means two things to me: 1 , football is back. 2 , the Austin City Limits Music Festival is right around the corner. Dylan, Stripes, LCD and more. Three days of great music, virtually non-stop. If the meteorological society knows what they are talking about, then the rain will give us a break just in time. If time, general ACL-craziness and other obligations were not an issue, my schedule might look some thing like [...]

If you are going to the Austin City Limits Music Festival this year, plan to attend one of the hottest afterparties, Hot Freaks II at the Mohawk & Club DeVille. Curated by some of my favorite music bloggers ( An Aquarium Drunkard , la Blogothèque , Brooklynvegan , Chromewaves , Gorilla vs Bear , My Old Kentucky Blog , and YouAin't No Picasso ), the lineup includes both national acts (Grizzly Bear, Art Brut, and others) paired with hot local openers. [...]

So late post today, but with good reason. With the stroke of 10AM EDT, an embargo has been lifted and I can happily announce to you a little something that An Aquarium Drunkard , La Blogothèque , Brooklynvegan , Gorilla vs Bear , My Old Kentucky Blog , You Ain't No Picasso and I have been working on the last few months - The Hot Freaks! , part the second - a sequel to our wonderfully successful showcases at SxSW this past March, The Hot Freaks! [...]

Brazos is one of Austin's best new bands. We've long been fans of Martin Crane , but the new stuff he's doing with this band is really special. Brazos will release their new EP, A City Just as Tall , on October 16 on Autobus Records . This brand new track won't appear on said EP, but that's beside the point, because it's still great: mp3: Brazos Hands Up Little Gun

Band of Horses haben kürzlich eine UK-exklusive 7-inch veröffentlicht, die irgendwie anders ist als das bisherige Schaffen der Band. Um so besser für die Band, dass der Track trotzdem fesselt. Band of Horses - The Ends not Near Minimal-Indie: immer wieder erstaunlich wie wenig Akkorde ein guter Song braucht. The Rosebuds - Blue Bird Indietronic in Bestform: Throw Me The Statue - About to Walk Der Partykiller im wahrsten Sinn des [...]

martin crane of brazos Brazos is the new project of one our very favorite musicians, Martin Crane . We were lucky enough to score a copy of the band's uber-limited Feeding Frenzy EP (39 total) at the sold-out White Denim EP release at the Mohawk this past weekend, and it hasn't left the car's cd player since. Feeding Frenzy is made up of 6 "glorified demos" (according to Martin) that were "were [...]

photo by Ashley Garmon We're heading down to Austin this afternoon to catch White Denim 's 7" release party tonight at the Mohawk . This show promises to kick ass for any number of obvious reasons; one of which is that Martin Crane 's great new band Brazos is one of the openers. So here's a brand new Brazos jam, recorded live for Austin's KVRX : mp3: Brazos Throback (live on KVRX) ****************************** ***** [...]
