Some of us here at Thrash Hits are card-carrying members of the #NoFunClub. Thankfully, Tom ' You Are Not Better Than Pop Music ' Doyle isn't one of them. That's why we sent him to watch Emmure, Chelsea Grin and Atilla when The Mosh Lives tour came to London last week. Six Things we learned when we saw The Mosh Lives tour in London: 1) [...]
Originally from Chicago, Illinois but now residing in Atlanta, Georgia, Thomas Insixiengmay (aka Insix ) sends us an opening flare in the shape of his unfinished track ‘Kitty In The Jungle’ and in the process, opens up a wide new portal of electronically-sharp Originals and some ridiculously dexterous bootlegs. Embracing ‘Stream,’ the heavily powerful ‘Stir,’ and the simple but melodic ‘Conundrum,’ Insix’s bassy-delicious ‘Break Down’ is a sign that he doesn’t just stick to one genre. Insix’s experiment with breakbeats gives us a weightless D&B revelation, while ‘Question Mark’ slips past the net as [...]

Photo by Ezra Koenig's Friend. Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend and Geoffrey Dicker Every time there's a piece of breaking music news, you can bet your sweet bippie that every blog will regurgitate that press release in a matter of minutes. But who does it first? Here's a break-down: Vampire Weekend named their new album "Modern Vampires of the City" via New York Times classified ad. And then.... Spin Magazine broke the news first at 8:55 AM EST. According2g tweeted [...]

photos by Lukas Hodge Breakdown at Public Assembly - 12/22/12 NYHC vets Breakdown , whose 1987 demo was one of the most important NYHC releases, reunited with the lineup that recorded that demo for a show at Public Assembly this past Saturday (12/22) , which BrooklynVegan proudly presented. The show was with Long Island hardcore greats Incendiary , and pictures of both bands are in this post, along with pictures of openers The Last Stand [...]

There's a swaggering, faintly '60s vibe to this easy-flowing anthem from Crushed Beaks . Up until the two-minute mark, that is, when the tune almost entirely comes to a halt, like a blabbering drunken man who suddenly seems on the verge of drifting off. Rousing themselves reluctantly from this slumber, the duo go directly into a wild, crashing, smashing finale that has me happily totalling my air guitar into the ground moments after the final, furious drum thwack. All this, and a video that gently pokes fun at old-school horror flicks. It really is Christmas. [...]

by Fred Pessaro // BBG Breakdown was started in 1986, during the resurgence of the hardcore scene. Despite being a NYHC band, being based in Yonkers Breakdown didn't have the Lower East Side Crew-mentality of Warzone and Agnostic Front. By a similar token, unlike some of their other contemporaries like Gorilla Biscuits and Youth Of Today, Breakdown was not a straight edge positive band. They are considered more along the lines of Sheer Terror for their more metallic sound and less-than-positive lyrics. -[ [...]

Ambitious. That's the word most critics are using to describe "Cloud Atlas" and as cliché as it might sound to use that word over and over, there really isn't a more fitting word for the six-story epic spanning multiple eras. So what exactly is the deal with this so-called ambitious film? "Cloud Atlas" is based in the David Mitchell novel of the same name and up until now, most had declared the novel unfilmable (some haters of the movie might still make that claim). The reason for this unfilmable status was that [...]

As singles go, Crushed Beaks ' "Breakdown" & flip side "Horror Shorts" is quite a package. It's out next week via ASL , and they've got a suave new video to accompany it. continue reading >>

Crushed Beaks ' new single "Breakdown" is released next month, and, just to cement their fast rising reputation a little more, the tracks flip side - "Horror Shorts" - is of pretty much of equal quality. continue reading >>
Queens rapper/actor Julian Stephen recently took the time to reintroduce his #AwkwardMoments mixtape, which was released last month. As he and his team gear up to release more videos from the project, Stephen takes the time to breakdown his thoughts behind each song: On "Sophisticated Thoughts" (Prod. by BrandUN Deshay ): I’m at this point in my life where I’ve decided that I am of a different breed [and] cut from a different cloth. With that being said, if I want to be on a higher level I need tothink on a higher level as [...]

We love Crushed Beaks at Walrus Towers, and starting where they left off with the scuzzy indie-pop gem of Grim , they are back with Breakdown . Starting off a little a little slower this time, but packed grainy 50s swagger before building into something more to jump at the walls to. Breakdown will be released on 5th November on the brand spanking new ASL Records . Crushed Beaks - Breakdown was originally published on The Blue Walrus [...]

Crushed Beaks are one of the few bands that 1FTP and friends all agree on. They're pretty great, basically. Following on from their last release - "Grim" - a couple of months back, the duo of Matt Pollie and Alex Morris have announced a new one in "Breakdown". continue reading >>
Southern California's Xibalba drags listeners down to the "place of fear" the band's name references, combining the heaviness of doom and sludge with the aggression of hardcore punk and even metalcore. Sunn O)))'s Greg Anderson shows up on a few tracks, too. WATCH THE REVIEW

More often than not, infographics are silly lil' ways of breaking down things that might not necessarily require it. But hey, we all need something light every so often, which leads me to presenting you the following visual representation of Warren G and Nate Dogg 's classic single, "Regulate". There could definitely be more to it than this, but it's still pretty rad and hilarious, so just peep the infographic below and enjoy.
People are doing traditional-style reviews all over the web, so we decided to try something different. In each "breakdown" we'll take a look at what a film's marketing lead us to believe, how the movie actually played, and then what we learned from it all. Read on! The Impression: Though I can’t say it bodes well for the increasingly depressing state of modern big budget, the fourth film in the Jason Bourne series averts some fears with the casting of franchise hero Jeremy Renner and the presence of series writer [...]

In each "breakdown" we'll take a look at what a film's marketing lead us to believe, how the movie actually played, and then what we learned from it all. Read on! The Impression: Jason Bourne is back! Well, actually, no he isn’t. It’s just the world that he exists in that is making a return via The Bourne Legacy . Jeremy Renner stars, and the movie was written and [...]
Because the web is inundated with long, drawn out reviews, this column opts to go a different route and break things down based on the impression that the film’s marketing gave us going in, how the film actually played, and then what we learned from it all. Read on! The Impression: Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis team up in a political comedy where they presumably do an enormous amount of silly stuff and yell at each other a lot. The Reality: Naturally, [...]

In each "breakdown" we'll take a look at what a film's marketing lead us to believe, how the movie actually played, and then what we learned from it all. Read on! The Impression: Paul Verhoeven’s Total Recall is a film that works as an artifact of a certain time and place. Arnold was huge, sweaty tough-guy action films were huger, and Carolco Pictures knew that regardless of Verhoeven’s stranger-than-normal touch, [...]
