The last time I witnessed the Henry Clay People play a New Year's Eve show : The Satellite was known as Spaceland; the Henry Clays covered "Sometime Around Midnight" at, well, about midnight; there was an onstage marriage proposal; the band played 90-plus minutes of classic rock covers in addition to an hour of their own material; and part of the delirious crowd ended up onstage singing along. They're doing it again this year. The lineup for Saturday night's Buzz Bands LA-presented festivities includes cracklin'-good indie-rockers LA Font and Races (the [...]

[Happy birthday, Dexter Holland ...] Show options on a light Wednesday: ► Annie Hardy and Giant Drag [pictured] are back — their October show at the Bootleg Theater offered only a little bit in the way of new material — and the trio (the band having added a guitarist) headlines the Satellite tonight with White Arrows and Sisu . ► Inclined , which was Breakestra main man Miles Tackett's original band back in the '80s and '90s, is working [...]
VIMBY - Breakestra LOS ANGELES - Catch up with Music Man Miles as he explains the method behind the funky madness that is Breakestra.

Thursday is the new Saturday and here's 5 ways to prove it: ☛ A kick-ass double Josh Homme [pictured above] bill with Queens Of The Stone Age and Eagles of Death Metal descends upon Club Nokia tonight to raise funds for Eagles of Death Metal bassist Brian O'Connor. Net proceeds from the show will be contributed to a fund for O'Connor , who was recently diagnosed with cancer and is currently undergoing treatment in Los Angeles. The show is in conjunction with Sweet Relief Musicians Fund [...]

You'd swear the dinos were dancing on Friday night at the Natural History Museum. The institution's monthly First Fridays event featured old-school music from the top of L.A.'s class — masters of funk the Breakestra and those purveyors of vintage soul, Fitz & the Tantrums . The museum's series continues May 7 with the Tallest Man on Earth and Gamble House. As for Friday night, photographer Laurie Scavo captured the action: [...]

Breakestra (którą bardzo lubię) powróciła z kolejnym ciekawym albumem pod koniec zeszłego roku. Właśnie ukazał się klip promujący owe wydawnictwo kalifornijskich, funkowych wyjadaczy. Oto Come on over (na mikrofonie Afrodyete). Przy okazji wrzucę inny sztos z Dusk till dawn LP . 10-breakestra-posed to be (feat. chali 2na mix master wolf and dj dusk) Swoją drogą zawsze zastanawiałem się jak [...]
"Come On Over" is the first video from Breakestra's "Dusk Till Dawn Album."

Rollo & Grady is heading to Austin later this week. Almost 2000 bands are participating this year at South By Southwest, and deciding which shows to attend can be overwhelming. After sampling roughly 1200 bands, we selected 200 bands to check out. Many of these artists we've covered in the past, but we've also discovered several new groups that we're excited to share with you. Tomorrow we're highlighting 23 artists that we feel will generate the biggest buzz at (and after) the festival. Adam Green (Myspace) [...]

And so it begins. Every year, we listen to mp3's of every band scheduled to appear at SXSW. We then present you with an A to Z preview of the bands that we think should earn your attention. Whether you're coming down to SXSW (recommended!) or just looking for new music, there's no better time of year. There's a variety of music here, so buckle up for some different sounds. We'll be previewing two letters per day, which'll take us right up to SXSW Music Week. Then we'll give you our picks for the [...]

The fine folks over at Now Again Records drop this track from Breakestra, the funkchild of Miles Tackett. This track reminds me of some the cooler CTI Records' soul-jazz fusion jams from back in the day. From their new album Dusk Till Dawn on Strut Records -You'll Never Know - Breakestra

Breakestra is one of those groups that I can't help but always enjoy. The smooth funk beats soothe the soul and make them hips wanna jiggle just a little more than they usually do. The track "You'll Never Know" has been released to us by the fine folks over at Now Again Records . Wednesday, October 7, 2009 The east coast was beautiful but there's nothing like being back in Austin, where our major park is once again shut down because of ACL. Sigh. Here's some hip hop to enjoy when you're not at Zilker, but enjoying our city or your city in other ways: NEW JAMS: : Wordsworth - One Day (Tomato Juice Remix) : Wordsworth is well known from his time on Lyricist Lounge, but on Mirror Music (2006), he demonstrated the ability [...]

Considering that Breakestra's last album was released in that antediluvian pre-Winehouse era known as 2005, people listening to From Dusk Till Dawn might wrongly peg them as carpet-bagging members of the Mark Ronson fan club (comes with free fedora-shaped Mezuzah and a CD-R mix of Le Tigre's greatest hits via Samantha). After all, retro-soul has become as ubiquitous as rappers in skinny jeans and scarves. But Breakestra were at the forefront of the trend, mining Meters and J.B.'s breaks for inspiration long before they cut one of the first Stones Throw releases in 1999. My interview with [...]

[Birthday greetings go out to Matthew Sweet today. And, tonight:] Not a good thing when your band name is more memorable than your music. Portland quartet Starf*cker — who brings its modest dance-pop to the Echo tonight — is doing something about its career-assassinating name, anyway. The band just called upon its fans to participate in a name-change contest (newnameideas@gmail.com, if you are so inspired). I'm thinking something that suggests bright colors. ... Nice to see the Breakestra [whom I wrote about in the Times [...]
