Eighteen venues, four days, and a whole earful of great of music make up this year’s MusicFestNW.

YO YO REMEMBER THAT HAIR FOOLIN' THE COP DAY Once upon a time long ago, a little boy named DJ Echoes found a pretty rad site called intothewoods.tv . He sent it to his buddy Ian, then proceeded to spend the rest of his Christmas break watching every video they have on the site of various Portland hipster music acts. Ok, so it was more like ~7 months ago. But back then, snow was on the ground, congressman have yet to show pic text their penises, and the Schwarzenegger household was living a lie. While [...]

Some pictures from our show with Wampire and Breakfast Mountain back in April. Looks like Wampire is coming back in Aug.... BREAKFAST MOUNTAIN - 2j-hollerday Wampire - Das Modell (Kraftwerk Cover)
I'm feeling a very strong and perhaps inappropriate urge to fire up this tiny little feature today (we've done A Tiny Mix highlighting Hypem favorites before - check it here ) and to title it "Hypem Hard-On". But I'm curious, can I use that word? It's vulgarity does not stress me but as I do not bear that particular body part, can I claim an actual hard-on for these jams? Like, is that okay? Fuck it. I'm gonna spend the next half hour making a graphic featuring a gramophone and the word "hard-on". Noble cause. I just [...]

frnds/fmly, you are running out of chances to help me run the zoo! join me next tuesday for my very last radio show on wprk 91.5fm (or wprkdj.org). i'll be playing some of my favorite tunes of 2010, chattin' it up in the zoo room and quite possibly saying some goodbyes over the air. SPECIAL MAGIC TIMES ALL AROUND / HAPPY HOLIDAZE

When Into the Woods launched in January, I wrote that they raised the bar for the medium of online music videos. Nearly one year and 85 (!) videos later, it's safe to say that there is still no one in Portland—or across the Internet, really—that is doing things quite like these guys. But the collective's original idea of taking a band outside of its natural environment and creating a document that's more short film that music video halted after just three episodes because it quickly proved to be an unsustainable model. And that's where you can help. This [...]

Breakfast Mountain - Bonus Gunz Beat Breakfast Mountain - J Hollerday Breakfast Mountain - Ice Cream Mountain BREAKFAST MOUNTAIN STRIKES AGAIN! [via into the woods ]
My brain is still pretty blown from a 16 hour solo drive, so all the plans I had for posts last week just kinda fell by the wayside. Much of my listening lately has consisted of Anthony Bourdain's new audiobook Medium Raw: A Bloody Valentine to the World of Food and the People Who Cook , so the musical selections have taken a backseat. I can definitely recommend Medium Raw as it's probably his best. For a man who was one thing in the past attempting to co-exist with an older, dare I say [...]

I need a bone breaking slap on the wrist. A band, that is less than 200 miles from my home, have been written up ad nauseam by my local alternative weekly and have created a sound so strong it could cause an earth quake have evaded me for three years. Despite all of my missed opportunities to discover Breakfast Mountain , I'm glad I finally stumbled across them sifting through the bowels of Myspace. The aspect of Breakfast Mountain's music that I most appreciate is their use of beats. They don't over complicate [...]
I'm realizing now I probably should have counted my pennies last year and hit up that DAT Politics show when I lived in Portland. I've been meaning to see what the fuck they do live with their live set, but it's hard to convince folks that the spastic electro they make is awesome. Had I gone, I would have gotten a sense of the equally awesome weirdness that is Breakfast Mountain , as they opened up the show. Instead, a year later I had to find out via the PDX Pop Now comp [...]

Who's your favorite dance band in Portland? Chances are, it's one of the six—yep, count 'em on two hands!—bands/artists on the new PDXTC split from High Scores and Records . Just one month after the label—founded by Devin Gallagher of Typhoon, Ghosties, etc.—released Guidance Counselor's self-titled debut on vinyl, it's dropping another dose of beautiful vinyl. The Ian Anderson-curated 12-inch LP features new tracks from Guidance Counselor , Atole , Breakfast Mountain , May Ling , Jeffrey Jerusalem and Wampire . The record drops on Thursday, May 27, with everyone [...]

Photos by Blush Photo In theory, last Thursday's show was all about Mad Rad 's return to Capitol Hill. The bad boys back on the beat. The party-rappers keepin' it clean on the scene instead of bein' mean. Macklemore , while exhibiting his own solid footing of late with a magnificent EP ( Vs. ) cut with beatmaker Ryan Lewis, was simply a tantalizing opening act. A warm up to the big up. . Turns out Macklemore [...]
MAD RAD ::: Photo by Josh Lovseth I came into Thursday night's free MAD RAD show at Neumos interested to see for myself whether MAD RAD's allure had run it's course, or if they might be able to sustain their present run as one of Seattle's most notable/notorious live groups. Surprisingly, in the course of dropping [...]

via scotty2hotty69 "Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." -Dr. Suess Breakfast Mountain - Krimp so i accidentally passed out last night. lets just call this tune of friday and saturday night. rock hard. this weekend jam goes way well with these babes.
I know what you’re thinking; the digital file has suffered the ignominious chipmunk effect. I thought the same but then at a running time of over 2 minutes I smelt a rat. Said rodent was in fact the knowledge that ‘Just Jamm It’ is supposed to sound like this. Pretty clever eh? Aside from the novelty aspect of actually setting out to carve a tune from what is a dreaded reminder of those early p2p days Portland’s Breakfast Mountain must be commended for making it sound pretty digestible. In fact after several spins it kinda garners a sort of disney [...]

Simple and true words: No one can keep up with Breakfast Mountain . They are the DMT released in your brain every night leaving you to trip balls in the dream realm, they are the pinched lime that makes you gasp while stinging your open sore and they are the unholiest of erections that every dude wakes up with in the morning. If you've ever had sex, then you've already heard Breakfast Mountain . Formed in 1999 to prevent Y2K, BM has been making love to ears for a decade. Like meat-lovers pizza, Breakfast [...]
Photo ©Nilina Mason-Campbell From the moment I heard the carefee epicness of Breakfast Mountain's "Dunn [Not Done]," I began picturing a spaced out skate video to accompany it, full of lens flare and adventure. And that's what I love about the jams Portlander Zack Osterlund creates. Specifically how even without lyrics helping to paint a picture, [...]
