I usually make it a point to avoid getting caught up in the entertainment industry's orgies of self-congratulation otherwise known as award shows, but Maura, who has an inexplicable fondness for celebrity gossip, decided to watch last night's Emmy Awards pre-show and ceremonies on the TV in our bedroom, where I was working on some projects at the computer desk. It's been a while since I have had to bear witness to the proceedings, but I don't remember the Emmys being as off-putting and just plain awful as they were in the largish chunk of the show I was [...]

In the very first post here on the Boogie Woogie Flu, we listened to some records that more than likely Elvis had in his record collection. Today we'll do the same, with a few of the tracks Elvis recorded on The Memphis Record in 1969 - the greatest recordings and best batch of songs he made outside of his Sun sessions. Elvis, fearing he'd lost his vitality with the younger portion of the record buying public, returned to Memphis to make this record with the very hot American Studios house band, produced by "Chips" Moman. Neil Diamond [...]

Connie Francis - Stupid Cupid Connie Francis - He's My Dreamboat (from Connie Francis Gold ) I consider myself a fan of "oldies." If I am forced to listen to music on the radio, then 95 percent of the time I will be listening to an oldies station, and it is not at all unknown to hear me calling in my requests to the local oldies stations. However, growing [...]
This month is just flying by, isn't it? It seems like just yesterday that I had all my money in my bank account and my sanity intact. The holiday season seems to deplete those resources faster than my 6 year old nephew changes hobbies (making gift buying that much more of a nightmare. . . "Do you still like superheroes? Dinosaurs? Baseball?"). There's no question that Christmas is my favorite holiday, but there are still so many things that bother me. I'm not going to go into them here, because when it comes to [...]
I've come home for Christmas after a week long Christmas celebration in Edinburgh which always suprises me by being tastefully decorated. The parties did mean me getting a couple of photos censored on Facebook though, but nevermind Anyway, in contrast to most the other indie blogs about which will be doing some kind of Indie [...]

The besom ( broom ) is recognized in the popular imagination as the ritual tool of the witch , but jumping the broomstick is a wedding tradition used in pagan as well as Scottish Highland ceremonies, and is also an African American custom . Brenda Lee ~ Let's Jump [...]
Today's band is arguably the loudest band that is participating in this feature. AVEC has been known to turn it up and put on a stellar live show. They can also turn it down a notch and be just as effective. No matter what they do, you will always go home satisfied. Ask around Baltimore and anybody who has seen them live, will tell you this. In fact, many of their biggest fans are other musicians. The band is gearing up for a big 2007 that is sure to get them attention far beyond the confines [...]

I have this love-hate relationship with holiday music. I used to love to hate it when I worked retail and had to listen to the same shitty songs over and over and over while waiting on highly obnoxious customers. Now, after being out of retail for almost four years, I hate to love holiday music. Oh well...what are you gonna do? I should say I don't love ALL holiday music. Most of it is pretty crappy. I tend to gravitate towards classics, stuff that reminds me of my childhood, and some modern interpretations of those classics. [...]
It's nice to see the cast all smiling together, wearing all bright colorful t-shirts for the photoshoot. Of course they are, since it's unlikely they'll be wearing those for the show... Statement made: I'm obsessed with LOST. It's the best show on TV right now, and probably the best of this decade. My time for tv is very restricted these days, and there are only 4 shows that I choose to allow myself to catch up weekly, which is Lost, the first one came to mind, along with The Simpsons, Family Guy & Desperate Housewives. Never [...]
In vino veritas ? Sure, everyone knows that old saw, but thanks to Mel Gibson we now have an updated version, in vino the Protocols of the Elders of Zion . All those times I’ve seen alcohol credited for livening up a party, but little did I realize that they were referring to the Nazi Party. I’ll never look at a beach party bonfire the same way again. Something tells me that the Road Warrior is going to end up digging deep into his coffers of Passion geld to salvage his career. Expect to see his PR [...]
