There's a certain aura about a big city and everything it has to offer. This week's playlist offers you a handful of songs devoted to some of the most happenin' spots around the U.S. This is one of my favorite playlists I've put out to date. I hope you feel the same. ![[VIDEO] Brett Dennen – “Closer to You”](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4647207_lg.jpg)
This video was filmed and edited (there wasn't really a whole lot to edit) in one day at 11,000 feet elevation. Brett Dennen, G. Love , and other musicians have teamed up with the Love Hope Strength Foundation on their march through the mountains. They're calling this event Everest Rocks and they post daily blog updates that you can read on their websites. All the down and dirty can be found on the website here . The quick of it is that they are trying to raise money not for cancer research, but to [...]

Women. You know what the age old saying is - can't live with them, can't live...uh...without them? The second part might be up for debate but that's for a later discussion. What I can assure you is that I don't have binders full of them like our good friend Mittens, but I've got a playlist that sure is. This week's list is a tribute to the female race with 8 songs dedicated to everything about them. If you think you've got a playlist worthy of making the site, shoot us an email. We're always looking to get our [...]

In February ATO Records will release an album entitled The Music Is You: A Tribute To John Denver that features HT faves My Morning Jacket, Dave Matthews, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Old Crow Medicine Show and more covering songs from John Denver's impressive catalog. The tribute is due 15 years after Denver's tragic death and 40 years after the release of Rocky Mountain High. A portion of the proceeds will be benefit environmental initiatives in John’s name. Here's the tracklist for the tribute... “Take Me [...]
As you might have noticed if you've tried to download any live shows here in the past few days, Demonoid is down. No one really knows how long it will be down, but in the meantime I'm still trying to figure out the best way to link to those shows. Bayfiles is great in that [...]

Last week was one for the books. Johnny Stimson proved daily why I'm the luckiest manager in the world. I can already hear him asking, "What city are we in now?" Data plans will be reached and exceeded and I may as well just glue my iPhone to my hand now. On Friday, I DJ'd a set at Eleven Nightclub and Johnny closed the evening with a live performance (video coming soon). Apparently, we were also the feisty group in the corner enjoying bottle service over a unique meshing of friends. Honestly, I [...]
Ben Howard preaches love, heart, losing faith, and self-discovery in the church of Every Kingdom. So… where are services held and when can I attend?

Goodness gracious me, have you heard the latest Brett Dennen album? Loverboy has been out for a year, but it took me until just a couple weeks ago to hear a tune from it ("Little Cosmic Girl" on SiriusXM), which sent me scurrying to check it out. I'm all about the joyous and positive vibe of Brett's latest record - and no song better captures it than "Dancing At A Funeral." I recommend running - not walking - to buy this album. Or at [...]
I remember reading some reviews earlier in Brett Dennen's career that called him the next coming of Dylan and being intrigued by that. While I never

Tweet vaso link Editor's Note: This morning starts our rundown of our writers' favorites of 2011. We didn't give them any real guidelines - just that each one would get a post with which to talk about what they liked over the previous 12 months. A couple of writers are voting "present," but between Dave and I and the rest of the guys, there will be a bunch of different takes on what was the best of the preceding year. [...]

The name of KCRW's holiday benefit show posed the so-rhetorical-it's-silly question "Are Friends Eclectic? Gee, waddya think? You'd be hard-pressed to find the fare at Saturday's four-plus-hour concert in the same time zone, let alone on the same spot on your FM dial. While "Eclectic's" genial host, KCRW music director Jason Bentley, repeatedly marveled about how the evening was a celebration "of the power of music," it was more specifically about allowing a diverse array of musical voices into your conversation. At that, KCRW owns the franchise. Even though the electronica, R&B and other flavors that [...]

I love pop music, I really do. Unfortunately, because of all the garbage that gets played out on the radio and the dime a dozen award shows these days, I feel like pop music gets a bad rap. But take a look beyond all of the Rihana's, Beiber's, Ke-dollar-ha's, and Usher's out there, and you'll find that pop music really isn't all that bad. So without further ado, some of my favorite pop songs of 2011. I wish I could write songs half as well as Brett Dennen [...]
