In February ATO Records will release an album entitled The Music Is You: A Tribute To John Denver that features HT faves My Morning Jacket, Dave Matthews, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Old Crow Medicine Show and more covering songs from John Denver's impressive catalog. The name of KCRW's holiday benefit show posed the so-rhetorical-it's-silly question "Are Friends Eclectic? Gee, waddya think? You'd be hard-pressed to find the fare at Saturday's four-plus-hour concert in the same time zone, let alone on the same spot on your FM dial. Concrete Opinions
I love pop music, I really do. Unfortunately, because of all the garbage that gets played out on the radio and the dime a dozen award shows these days, I feel like pop music gets a bad rap. But take a look beyond all of the Rihana's, Beiber's, Ke-dollar-ha's, and Usher's out there, and you'll find that pop music really isn't all that bad.
