No one buys albums anymore, goes the music industry truism. And yet, for all that the format's commercial viability may or may not be on the wane, sitting and listening to a great album from start to finish is one of the greatest pleasures that music can bring. Flavorwire recently got to thinking about how one might build a record collection if you really only did buy one record a year. So here's the result of our thought exercise: 50 albums you really should own, one a year from 1963 until the present day. Yes, of course this mean things [...]

This is something almost completely uncharacteristic of Jonwayne , ambient music. Though there is no reason for it to be; I feel like all producers should try their hand at ambient/ drone cuts at least once. It's such a wide-open genre right now, it has no limits. The mix is 67 minutes and it's the first time the wayniac has been featured on the Stones Throw Podcast. I haven't listened yet, although I my nap game has been very heavy lately. If you're feeling it, drop a line on twitter, he's been asking for feedback on this one. He [...]

To Your Love " 2011 bereits neue Maßstäbe setzte. Der mittlerweile 24-Jährige wurde nicht zu unrecht als moderner Klassiker bezeichnet, der Indie und Electro-Liebhabern zugleich Türen und Tore öffnete für einen Mix aus Soul und Post-Dubstep. [...]

Brian Eno gave a talk last week as part of the Red Bull Music Academy's current lecture series, in which he discussed the creative pitfalls in relying too heavily on digital technology-ironic given his career exclusively doing exactly that. "Doesn't it strike you as interesting that here we are in the second decade of the 21st century and a lot of the most interesting music is still being made by people playing very primitive instruments, like electric guitars and drums," Eno muses. "I mean what is a 'drumkit?' It could be [...]

Wowzers.. Dig this cut from Kaelin Ellis, titled, Brian Eno - WIndows 95. Heat.

James Blake's sophomore effort, Overgrown BY JORDAN MAINZER It’s about 9:30 P.M. at Metro Chicago on May 4, 2013, and the crowd is stuck in some sort of limbo. Unsure whether to stand still and scratch their chins or dance, audience members look very awkward while a DJ plays minimally and lazily remixed versions of recognizable songs like Andy Stott ’s “ Numb ” and D’Angelo’s “ Untitled (How Does it Feel) ”. All is well, however, because coming on in about 30 minutes will be James Blake, an [...]

Iggy and the Stooges were in cracking form on The Colbert Report last night, making them the latest in a long line of bands who've appeared as guests on Stephen Colbert's long-running satirical chat show. Of all the late-night hosts on TV, Colbert seems to get the most amusing interviews and performances out of musicians; here are a selection of The Colbert Report 's very best musical moments. You're more than welcome. [...]
James Blake has never been one to fear the unknown. On his 2011 self-titled debut, he saw the mortality of dubstep, understanding that it was a genre rife with limitations and a definite chance of fading away. For Blake, he saw this as an opportunity to explore the boundaries of dubstep-style production. It was a leap of faith. While other artists were going in the direction of assaulting, grandiose production, Blake took the style and minimized it. By removing the trivial bombastic exterior, he was able to emphasize the underlying beauty. What came of it was something wholly unique, [...]

For the 2013 edition of Record Store Day , Nicolas Jaar took to remixing both Grizzly Bear ’s “Sleeping Ute” and Brian Eno ’s “Lux,” which appeared on an exclusive RSD 12”. Of course, the vinyl sold out instantly. In usual fashion, Jaar takes his time in letting his work unfold, keeping your attention with a stream of sparse atmospheric noise. Perhaps in respect for the original, he allows “Lux” to remain ambient throughout while his rework of “Sleeping Ute” gradually evolves into a clean, guitar-driven beat reminiscent of Darkside, Jaar’s collaborative project [...]
