Cultivating the distinctive voice that emerged on the 2008 LP Network Stars , Lucky Ghost (the bedroom brain-child of multi-instrumentalist, Seth Berkowitz) delivers an incredible amalgamation [...]

DOWNLOAD : Brian Grosz - "Lady on the Low" (featuring a remix by Touch) Originally released on the album Bedlam Nights (Exotic Recordings), "Lady On The Low" is now coupled with a Big Beat remix from one of the album's original engineers, Touch. While the original track represented everything we've come to expect from Grosz (bloozy swagger atop industrial clang), Touch has mangled and man-handled the song to the epic heights (and lows) of Latin dancehalls, gay discos and the over-tanned, fist-pumping legions, popularized by the subhumans of the Jersey [...]
A long week, huh? (That's a Kanye huh, btw. So it's really huuuuh). Two late night festival announcements, loads of tour dates, and two American Idol episodes featuring Steven Tyler's plastic face. If you're like me, then the weekend really can't come soon enough. But before you go, let's cap things off with another edition of our Friday Mixtape. Featuring brand new singles from The Mountain Goats, I'm From Barcelona, and Akron/Family, a few quality remixes, and handpicked covers from our friends at Cover Me , there's a whole slew of stuff to check out. [...]
Brian Grosz offers up covers of two old spirituals and Talking Heads "Once In A Lifetime".

DOWNLOAD: Gene Priest and the Cardinal Sin - "Living to Die" DOWNLOAD: Brian Grosz & the Bad Idea - "A Tap Tribute" Save your liver tonight as there will be some serious drinking going on at Fat Baby tomorrow night when Brian Grosz and Gene Priest kick off their "Damnation and Delusion" tour. Since the 2007 release of his debut solo album, "Bedlam Nights" (Exotic Records), Brian Grosz been presenting the world with his own skewed and gravel-voiced version of the American [...]

DOWNLOAD: Gene Priest & The Cardinal Sin - "Living to Die" EP It can't be easy to be an agnostic when your last name is a religious title, but the world of Gene Priest's songs is not a very friendly place to begin with... Gene Priest is ordinarily a sideman mainstay in the Knoxville, TN, music scene - manning the drum-kit for indie-rock acts HiLites and Cold Hands and the sludge-metal quartet, Hot Blood - but with equal doses of ego [...]

I suppose one advantage in taking so long to clear out my inbox is the large selection to pick from. I'm able to weed through all the "indie" stuff and skim the cream off the top. A couple of items of note from this purge session: Kandi Coded keeps the Seattle grunge tradition alive on their debut Fell for the Gift , which is out next month. Check out their amped-up take on Johnny Cash's tribute to a lost Viet Nam vet, which is just as meaningful now. In case you weren't aware, [...]

DOWNLOAD: Alex Walker - "Sacrifice" (MP3) Wow - I've really fallen behind as Alex Walker's single came out a few weeks back. Guitarist Alex Walker has new single "Sacrifice" that has a low-fi dub groove that is reminiscent of early Basehead. For anyone not familiar with Alex Walker's music, he has been around the NYC scene for a number of years and has played in bands that range from Aloke (Steve Albini produced their last disc) to the amplified chamber group Electric [...]
Brooklyn-based hard rockers Dogs of Winter have released their debut CD, From Soil to Shale , as a free download and the band is playing a CD release show tomorrow night at Fat Baby. "From Soil To Shale," the blistering 9-song debut from Dogs Of Winter, marks the trio's passage from decay and detritus into the splintery, dark mass of angular stone you see before you. Compressed under the weight of Russian amplification, steeped in science-fiction and late-night movies, the album comprises tales of gorgons, body-snatching extra-terrestrial nano-organisms, tribal-excommunication and the unceasing march [...]

I couldn't pass up the Speed Racer cover, I was a huge fan of the cartoon as a kid yet have no interest in the current film, go figure. Don't forget to enter the Forever Dusty contest ! Bedlam Nights is Brian Grosz's soundtrack for the eternal struggle -- done in worn down gloss, combining melody, abrasion, and power to make the message. Grosz's vocals are reminiscent of Mark Lanegan with less low end. Bedlam Nights commences with the night prance of "Can't Let Me Go," moving into the raving mad "Lady on the Low," touched by a snarling tense guitar. "Someone's Gonna Swing" crashes in like Pigface, tacky and singed with an atmosphere of dread. The album follows to the quick heavy passing southern gospel of "An Ephemeral Moment of Clarity," into the blood [...]
On this album Brian Grosz cultivates an atmosphere of scuzz.
Brian Grosz Genre: Indie / Acoustic From: Brooklyn, New York United States Dogs of Winter frontman has traded in the Marshall amps for an acoustic guitar to play the singer-songwriter on his debut solo album 'Bedlam Nights' . But this is no sensitive walk on the mild side, instead Grosz bares his soul on a painfully raw and [...]

After some e-mail trouble, I've finally started to get through all the messages I've missed the last couple of weeks. Needless to say, I had quite a bit of music waiting for me, and I have now weeded out the ones I find worthy of posting. Enjoy! MP3: Black Lips - "Not A Problem" MP3: The Shondes - "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" [...]

Someone (that would be Juan ) mentioned in the comments of another post that my music selections have been rather eclectic lately. Looking back over the past weeks' worth or so of posts, I'd have to agree. I mean, the entry titles themselves veer wildly between sweet and simple to downright filthy! There's not much of a point here, other than I think Juan is right. My musical tastes and my blogging topics are all over the place these days. No telling what I might write about next, which [...]
