Describing themselves as "nerdy Brooklyn pop", Bridges and Powerlines shine in all of their nerdy glory on their latest release, Eve . Originally hitting shelves in the States in February 2011, Eve is the follow-up to their 2008 release, Ghost Types . Still maintaining the quirky, upbeat tracks that have gained them a strong following in their native New York, the band seems to have found a cohesiveness that has allowed them to the next step towards a breakthrough to more mainstream audiences. From start to finish, Eve is every hipster kid's [...]

RSL 2011 Music Picks Best of the First-Half Nominee... Meet Eve Bridges and Powerlines - Mirabell It gets harder and harder each month to pick the one or two songs - the best album - to bring to your attention. 2011 has been a great year so far for new [...]
The indie-pop band's second album is a big winner. Their creative arrangements and distinct songwriting set them apart in a crowded genre. When we last discussed Bridges and Powerlines here at PopMatters, I expressed hope that their solid debut album, Ghost Types, portended brighter things in their future. That album was full of good indie-pop songs based around guitars and synths, but it didn't turn out to be something that stuck with you over time. At least not for me. Now the band has returned with Eve, and they've indeed stepped up their game. The album opens...
Sometimes, things just don't click. You can have all the right pieces in place, but the whole is far less than the sum of its parts. This is the crippling problem that Bridges and Powerlines face on Eve. In many songs, there are solid moments and good musicianship. But the tracks and the album fall flat when you put it all together. There are two key factors that hurt this record the most. Sadly, they're also two of the most important parts of a group's sound: the vocals and the guitar. Andrew Wood's voice [...]
It's a day for videos here; in particular it appears to be a day for videos with green screens. Bridges and Powerlines put themselves in a lo-fi animated world for "Mirabell." The adorable video is above. We promise you that it'll make you smile late on this Friday afternoon.

According to my own very unscientific studies, there are hundreds of thousands of music-related websites online. Possibly millions. Some of them have big budget advertising accounts and site traffic that rivals The New York Times . Others provide hourly coverage of popular bands and employ a dedicated staff of contributors. Most of them are run by one or two devoted individuals who put a lot of time and effort into daily reviews and updates. But no matter which music site you're talking about, it's safe to say that almost all of them are more popular than this one. [...]

February's come and gone, and I am overdue for a new mix. These were in the queue for a bit, and I finally had a chance to mix them. A bit more electronic music than normal, and a bit more from Australian artists too with Chico Indigo, Cut Copy, Kimbra, and Olympic Ayres on this month's mix. As always, it's a gapless mix with tracks mixed and indexed in Audacity. Blogophilia 26 Songs from The Dadada Blog and others Downloaded/Uploaded 1/31/11 - 2/28/11 Ripped [...]

Bridges and Powerlines continue chrunign out 21st Century pop songs. Their latest album Eve has an updated Wall of Sound, with the keyboards things center stage. Still an inner circle band they have enlisted the help of indie singer Will Stratton, Steven Harris (The Cult) and producer Kieran Kelley. The Brooklyn band have honed their craft and took an unprecedented three months to finish the album. It has paid off handsomely, ending up with a collection of songs that is definitely pop with a New York fuzz tone to keep it interesting for [...]

With the recent release of the album, Eve (Feb. 1), Andrew Wood from Bridges and Powerlines graciously found time to answer our slew of questions. We discussed recording B&P's newest "album they had wanted to make their whole lives" with legendary producer, Kieran Kelly (Better Than Ezra, Sufjan Stevens), the addition of horns and strings, and what others have labeled them as, "optimistic fuzz pop" means to him. tMIM : Have you found it hard to find your niche in the NYC music scene with so many bands popping up around there?
