Stumbled across this Milwaukee, WI band Brief Candles today as their song "The Sentiment" was featured as today's KEXP Song of the Day. This is definitely a nice, warm and noisy 90s alterno-throwback shoegaze kind of album with a lot of noisy bass, noisy fuzzed out guitars and barely audible vocals. All of the good elements for a nice fuzzed-out experience, with some blissful harmonies and melodies layed all over the top of it. Don't judge Brief Candles by the name. On Fractured Days , the shoegazers shine brightly. It's no surprise Brief Candles get lumped into the shoegaze genre with pioneers My Bloody Valentine and Ride, as well as with the more recent revivalists, Silversun Pickups. Singer Kevin Dixon's hollow voice is an unmistakable fit for the category. As is the raucous distortion generated by Dixon and guitarist Ryan Sullivan.
