A couple of days ago, Bright Eyes brought out guitar icon Tom Morello during its set at the Ottawa Folk Festival for a rendition of Fevers & Mirrors song "Arienette." Oberst's take on the song is rather straightforward until he turns it over to Morello, who delivers one of those thrashy, guitar-channeling-other-instru ments solos for which he is best known. Keep your eyes peeled for another bro hug , doubling this week's tally if you're keeping track of the bro hugs. Read More...
During their set at the Ottawa Folk Festival this past week, Bright Eyes did something pretty far removed from folk in the traditional sense. They brought out fellow performer Tom Morello, who was there as the Nightwatchman, to assist in playing "Arienette" and "Road to Joy," which are off 2000's Fevers and Mirrors and 2005's I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning . We only have some footage of "Arienette," though once you check it out you can assume the same results came during "Road to Joy." As I alluded to, [...]
Video: Bright Eyes ft. Tom Morello - "Arienette" Conor Oberst and friends played a headlining set at the Ottawa Folk Festival over the weekend, closing out the gig with a pair of decidedly non-folk collaborations (their second onstage team-up of the year): "Arienette" and "Road To Joy" featuring the axe work of alt-rock hero Tom Morello. NJ Underground has some decent clips, but here's some nice front-row footage of Oberst's reverent introduction before the Rage Against the Machine/Nightwatchman guitarist takes an inspired, blistering solo on Bright Eyes' 2000 Fevers and [...]

Photo by Philip Cosores I don't know what is more exciting about this story: the fact that Tom Morello jammed with Bright Eyes or the fact that they played "Arienette" at all. You decide with the following clips from Saturday Night's Ottawa Folk Festival. Morello actually kills his part in "Arienette." (Via The NJ Underground )
It's not on the Jack White-ICP level , but check this out. At the Ottawa Folk Festival this past Saturday, Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello added his mind-scrapping guitar licks to Bright Eyes' live renditions of "Arienette" and "Road to Joy". Watch the HD video clips below (via The NJ Underground ). "Arienette" "Road To Joy" Bright Eyes has a bunch more tour dates in support of their latest LP, [...]

Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine and The Nightwatchman joined Bright Eyes during their headlining set at the Ottawa Folk Festival this past weekend for a couple of tracks. It seems like an unlikely pairing considering Morello's expertise is making a guitar sound like nothing you've ever heard before and Bright Eyes' music is mostly acoustic guitar strumming. However, their rendition of "Road To Joy" and "Arienette" turned out good and the footage is outstanding for a crowd shot video. Check it out. BRIGHT EYES - ROAD TO [...]

Karl Denson | photo by whitperson Although Hurricane Irene ended up being rather wimpy - considering all of the preparations and dire warnings - it certainly screwed up a lot of NYC concerts and festivals this past weekend. Brooklyn Bowl had to postpone BP's Saturday show, so I was denied what would have certainly been a raging, late-night throwdown (including a fist-pumping "Inside the Tinman" according to the band ). Here's hoping that the weather clears up nicely this week and lets the show(s) go on. Speaking of [...]
![PEPPER RABBIT, WE ARE AUGUSTINES, BRIGHT EYES [SUGGESTED NYC CONCERTS]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3683724_lg.jpg)
Hurricane Irene came and went, canceling nearly every single concert in New York City in its path. What's the best cure for the cabin fever inflicted on us from the storm? To go out and see some music this week of course! Here's a list of the city's best indie concerts this week. Pepper Rabbit , We Barbarians , ANR @ Mercury Lounge ( Tickets ) Daytrotter Barnstormer 5 : We [...]
Leighton from Lydia and The Cinema pulled out this cover of one of the greatest love songs of all-time at a recent solo show. Check him out doing a spot-on cover of the Bright Eyes classic "First Day of My Life" .
Lolla's 20th anniversary was my sixth straight, having attended every year since it expanded to three days in Chicago's gorgeous Grant Park. In those six years I've had some amazing times, and experienced a mass of great music. It all began in 2006, arriving to The Raconteurs covering Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy," and from then on, I *had* to be there. The next year in 2007, Daft Punk flew in on their pyramid of light, the year after that, Wilco donned their Sgt. Pepper-inspired threads in 2008, heck, I even got to see Lou Reed play "Sweet Jane" in [...]

© Aaron Fortin Dr. Dog just announced a new set of tour dates the other day. Their music seemed to be featured prominently as "house music" on the set switchovers this past weekend at Outside Lands and me and my crew noticed it more than a few times... The band is currently in a Philadelphia studio recording a new full length album. The record, an anticipated follow up to the band's breakout release Shame Shame , will be in stores early 2012. [...]

It's a given that whoever comes across EARMILK's Indie section are familiar with major indie bands, Dr. Dog and Bright Eyes . They were at least more popular in the early 20002s than this decade. Now, there's a dying trend of music produced with real instruments. I am guilty of following this new expansion of indie music but for all the oldies and fans of Dr.Dog or Conor Oberst, I have exciting news! Dr.Dog, a band that is much influenced by The Beatles, are back on tour. A new tour means new music and rumors [...]
![[Album Review/Listen] Maria Taylor – Overlook](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3653830_lg.jpg)
Tweet "Matador" is the lead single of Maria Taylor's newest solo effort, "Overlook." I'll cut straight to the point: it's the only song on the album really worth listening to. Taylor, who's known for being a part of Azure Ray and sometimes collaborating with Bright Eyes , has put out a wealth of quality work, but none of that shows up here save that one song. "Matador's" interesting layers of instruments - from a striking electric guitar to marimba - and [...]
Philadelphia psychedelic indie rockers Dr. Dog have a pretty solid track record of putting out good music; their last two albums, 2008's Fate and last year's Shame, Shame , were both CoS Top Star earners. So when word comes that there's a tour approaching, you're damn sure we mark it in our iCal. Following a handful of previously announced dates with Bright Eyes, which begin August 30th in Providence, RI, Dr. Dog will return to the road for a fall jaunt. [...]

Straight from the band's label, Anti- Records : Beloved symphonic rock 'n' roll band Dr. Dog is hitting the road for a series of North American tour dates in the coming months. The band will kick things off with three nights sharing a bill with none other than Bright Eyes before steering their merry bus to selected theaters and ballroom across the country. With their ever-evolving sound and supreme love of performing, the band has crafted a psychedelic infused modern rock show unlike any other. The band is currently in a Philadelphia studio [...]

Thanks to my father's determination to visit all 50 US states in his lifetime, we've just returned from a short vacation, and as is our practice here at Cover Lay Down, that means a feature with a regional focus. Previous Vacation Coverfolk sets took us to California , the Carolinas , Memphis , and more; this week found us in Nebraska, and so we turn to the work of a particularly influential musician with a decidedly midwestern origin. Ladies and Gentlemen: Conor Oberst, aka Bright Eyes . [...]
