Monday: Ted Leo & the Pharmacists @ Maxwell's 9pm $15 I may have recommended seeing Ted Leo & the Pharmacists on Sunday but let's face it with all the shit weather you probably didn't make the trek to a place in Jersey you've never been to. Well now you can quickly make up for that by seeing Ted & company at the wonderfully intimate Maxwell's! Sounds like a brilliant way to start off your week. Ted Leo & the Pharmacists - "Where Was My Brain" Tuesday: [...]

A few years ago I booked Brilliant Sweaters then project Animandibles for my CMJ showcase. While playing for a crowd of about four people the band wowed me, playing like it was a packed wall-to-wall show and from then on I said I would book them whenever. Well they played my 4th anniversary show and now they've played my inaugural Northside show and each time I see them I realize how much I love these dudes. They may have shifted their sound to pop-punk, they may not have played my favorite of their songs ("I Dropped Out of High School"), [...]

Relatively new Queens band, Brilliant Sweaters , have their debut album available for you to download for free. The album is ironically titled Music is Free and features 11 punk rock oriented jams. Here's a taste of what's in store with the rocker "I Love You But You're Worthless". Download: Brilliant Sweaters - I Love You but You're Worthless [MP3]
Monday: Frightened Rabbit @ (le) poisson rouge 9pm $15 This is being billed as an "acoustic, request only" show. If that stays true to its word then this should be a pretty unique performance from these Scots. If not, well Frightened Rabbits are a damn good band even when they aren't trying to do some crazy original show here in New York. Frightened Rabbit - "Be Less Rude" Tuesday: Lykke Li @ Music Hall of Williamsburg 8pm $22 In this recession plagued age I doubt I'll be able [...]

Not since Yo La Tengo's cover of "Little Honda" (box.net mp3) has there been a catchyass Honda-related song like this. What am I talking about? I am talking about this 2007 song from Tyvek or is that Tyvjk or TVK or (just kidding) The DuPont Funtime Band. Downloadable: "Honda" (box.net mp3) What's Your Rupture is here . Two years ago I booked a band called Animandibles for my CMJ Day Show and literally four people watched as the duo absolutely dominated the Delancey stage. It may have been a bit embarrassing for me to have booked a show that so few people showed up to but it proved that the band were willing to go all out in the name of the music and to gain even one new fan. Last year I tried to book Animandibles for the noise stage at the After the Jump Fest only to learn that the band was no [...]

So... Meho Plaza , the album by Meho Plaza has been on my ipod for a while now and I figure it is time to share a couple of tracks that have been sticking in my head of late. In case you are unfamiliar, Meho Plaza are from LA and they play noisy synth driven rock n' roll. Listen: "George Washington" (box.net mp3) "Your Future Looks Bright" (box.net mp3) Myspace page is here . Better Looking Records is here . eMusic page is [...]

Pat , the coolest blogger on Staten Island, is throwing a little anniversary bash this Saturday for his erstwhile music blog, Pop Tarts Suck Toasted , (though personally I don't mind them that way). The show is $7 and features the following bands: New York Times Boy Genius (I like!) The Great Unwashed Brilliant Sweaters (ATJF alums) DJ Rachel (Underrated) DJ Nora (I Rock, I Roll) Bar Matchless Williamsburg, Brooklyn [...]
Who: Brilliant Sweaters Slot: 10pm Resides In: Why You Should See Them: Last year a band called Animandibles opened up my CMJ day show to a total audience of about 4-people. They proceeded to rock out like the place was packed and since then I have adored anything the band had done until they called it quits earlier this year. But out of the ashes of Animandibles rose a new punk band called
Monday: ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead @ Santo's Party House 10pm $tba This show was announced last week and is a pretty big deal for folks that know anything about Trail of Dead. The original two members, Jason Reece and Conrad Keely, will perform alone for the first time in god knows how long. It's pretty freakin' awesome! Is there really any better way to kick off your week than
Last year I booked a band to perform at my CMJ day show called Animandible. The band was just a rocking two piece and played to all of five people that day, but on stage they performed like they were at a sold out Madison Square Garden. From that day on they had a fan they could count on in me, so when time came to book the After the Jump Fest this summer I immediately thought to bring them back
There's no good way to do this. I could spend a couple hours trying to truly mix this and make it sound good, or I could post if alphabetically and go watch the Celtics beat the Lakers. Hmmm... Alex and the Horribles - "Eskimo Girl" Autodrone - "Through the Backwoods" Bell - "Echinacea" Bridges and Powerlines - "Half a Cent" Brilliant Sweaters - "Sexy Genius" Bryan Scary and the Shredding Tears
