Wow, this is really cool stuff! My blogging friend Kevin (aka mp3hugger ) has started a record label called Indiecater . The label is an offshoot of Kevin's blog mp3hugger and is based in Dublin 1. What's really neat is that it is a fully digital label - every album is available in mp3 format. When you purchase an album, you get high quality mp3's with all the proper artwork for that album. The other neat aspect is that you can purchase wonderful albums that are no longer in circulation. These are from some really good [...]

This blogger is constantly in awe of the wonderful work Indiecater and Mp3hugger are doing for the Irish music scene. I believe the Blog Awards folk should have acknowledged this last month but on with the present. 'Senor, my Friend' is the 2003debut album by the unique Mumblin' Deaf Ro and thanks to Indiecater is easily yours for just €4. This digital release includes the album and 3 bonus tracks, 2 of which were not on the original release and another which is a solo version of 'These Men Get Paid To Know'. Also bundled in [...]

Just like most things Glen Hansard does, the relationship split from Marketa Irglova has arrived into the public domain in a very low key way. He recently answered a question from an Australian journalist stating ..... ..... "We had made the film. We had gone through so much with the Oscar. Of course, we fell into each other's arms. It was a very necessary part of our friendship but I think we both concluded that that wasn't what we really wanted to do. So we're not together now. We are just really good friends." ...... ..... [...]

Kevin over at indiecater and mp3hugger is fast becoming the most influential blogger for Irish music. The Indiecater Record label has already released three compilations, a special Christmas compilation and most importantly has re-released five forgotten indie jems from the vaults of history. These are ..... Red Star Belgrade - Where The Sun Doesn't Shine Released in the mid '90's Red Star Belgrade's (yes, they were named after the football team) classic 'Where The Sun Doesn't Shine' has been in hibernation for several years. But now thanks to RSB's Bill Curry and [...]

Indiecater is a new label in Dublin dedicated to releasing lost pop albums. They just re-released The Brilliant Trees album "Friday Night" (1996) as a digital-only download. The band had moderate success in Ireland and a top ten hit in the Irish charts. Sadly the rest of the world never took notice when this brand of "britpop" became a heavily over-saturated genre in the late 90s (Thousand Yard Stare anyone?). It's great to see this release finally get the attention it deserves. My favorite track on the album is [...]

The awesome Irish label Indiecater (run by the equally awesome Kevin / MP3hugger ) has decided to digitally reissue the 1996 debut album Friday Night by Irishmen The Brilliant Trees . Cannot say that I've ever heard of them, but in general Kevin has a really fine taste when it comes to music, so I expected that his motives for reissuing the album had more to do with it being a great one rather than him being an [...]
Been meaning to post on this one for a while... our friends over at Mp3Hugger & Indiecator have been very busy of late. Here's an update: Indiecator itself has evolved into Indiecator Records, and alongside regular installments of their excellent compilation series (pictured), they've been digitally re-releasing lost and/or rare records. From the acclaimed debut from North Carolina's Red Star Belgrade to the excellent 'Youth Is Wasted On The Young' by our own Michael Knight , there's some absolute gems here. Check them out in all their digital [...]
If you are in Dublin tonight you should really come and witness the end of a great band from the city. The Brilliant Trees are from Finglas and along with the Frank & Walters, Whipping Boy and In Motion are my all time favourites. This production values on this are as scratchy as it gets due mostly to the transfer from cassette tape. It is taken from a 2fm radio session on the Dave Fanning show
The only thing the detractors could throw at them was that lead singer Alan Hoey sounded like Damon Albarn. Shame on them, mud slinging at perhaps the jangliest band this country has ever produced. And if that wasn't enough they could whip into an audience into synchronised football chants to make your hair stand on end. The band have been quiet for several years now and the inevitable last gig
