Today's cover is the bittersweet, indie-disco fused Boy From School by Hot Chip. Dispensing with the electronics however are four indie covers; 3 acoustic renditions by Grizzly Bear , British India and Portastatic and 1 slightly more rocking number from Maritime (which oddly enough ends in an acoustic fashion). Grizzly Bear - And I Was A Boy From School British India - And [...]

Listening to the title track to British India 's new EP reminded me of the first time I ever listened to the Libertines. Like you had just discovered the most amazing thing. It starts softly, introspective... Oasis ? There is melodic guitar and melodic lyrics. But then the guitars and drums lay into you. There's a palpable "we don't give a..." in them as lead singer Declan Melia's more powerful vocals come in like thunderbolts with the chorus, which sounds worthy of a stadium. One day, maybe...I imagine there's [...]

From Melbourne's independent music scene comes British India who released their debut UK EP Vanilla this week. Taken from the current album 'Avalanche', Vanilla was made available in Australia as a free download and recei... Read more..

Whilst Paul Simon managed 50 ways to leave your lover, Australia's ever popular British India have just released a track called '90 ways to leave your lover' - put that in your pipe and smoke it! For the uninitiated British India are a pretty straight up hard rockin' four-piece from Melbourne. There's no heirs and graces about it. In April they released their 3rd full length album called Avalanche - buy it on itunes here [...]
You heard it here first - the Australian music scene is definitely going to be one to watch closely. Here's just one Australian band, a Melbourne quartet called British India , that we will be talking about on TGTF in the coming weeks. This band that self-describes themselves as sounding like Kaiser Chiefs , Interpol and Arcade Fire will be touring the UK - very shortly actually - on the dates below. Friday 29th October 2010 - Coventry Taylor Johns House Wednesday [...]

I imagine if I were in a teen movie montage, staring forlornly out of the window because the beautiful girl next door had decided to go to the prom with my worst enemy, then "Vanilla", opening track of this EP by Australian garage rockers British India, would be just the thing for some cathartic swooning. But I'm not. And all I can think is that I got bored of this kind of overblown angst when I was fifteen. Read more..

Last Friday night (01/10), I headed down to The Forum to go watch The Jagermeister Independent Music Awards with my side-kick Kim (although I'm sure she wouldn't like to be known as my sidekick). As usual, I was late. Luckily I don't think I missed anything, besides getting a seat. After getting our Jager and Redbull (endorsement deal please?) we searched for higher ground so our view wasn't obstructed by those menacing tall people. While this article will not be even close to being as well written as The Vi ne and Mess+Noise [...]

I'm an idiot. I meant to post about the Groovin' The Moo festival last week before tickets went on sale, but I forgot all about it I'm afraid. ok. So, yeah, well, umm, it's been over a month since the last one of these. I said exactly the same thing last time though, so yeah, no excuse. Been doing too many features eh! Anyway, there's been some great great music thrown around the blogosphere lately. Thought i'd compile a few of my faves. First up, it's British India . These guys are a local band who've been around for a while. Great sound. Saw them live at a promo gig thing a while ago and they put on a freakin solid live show. [...]

British India - And I Was A Boy From School [Hot Chip]

While I'm normally on the side of British India which involves a lot of eye-rolling and cringing, I was pretty interested to see what they did to Hot Chip's Boy From School for triple j's Like A Version. Suss it out. British India - And I Was A Boy From School (Hot Chip Cover) [ ALT ]

Melbourne band British India released their second studio album Theives on July 19 and I was pretty excited for it as I really enjoyed their first release Gullotine. I expected a similar brand of pop-rock with memorable guitar riffs and Declan Melia's unique vocals that can turn from choir boy to footy fan in a manner of seconds. But I reckon they sorta lost the pop aspect by turning up the guitar and increasing the screaming in the vocals, making the album a little bit less easy to listen. It's still good, [...]

This is doing my heart good. Listening to Whiskey Go Go's debut album "Proud Tales To Them Of Us" is putting a smile on my face. It is good time music with heart and soul and passion. They are probably sick of the comparison but the similarities to Kings Of Leon are striking. But I think that is a good thing. Some of these songs growl and rumble, some delight and many flat out rock. "It's life," Matt says. "I sing about what I know and feel. People wear so many masks today. But I don't want anything [...]

I'm sad to say that the time has come for me to finish the particular series....For now. It seems you'll have to get high on your own supply of music for a while. But fear not, I'm not plunging you completely into darkness for there is a faint light at the end of tunnel and that light is my next series. So until then....er....hold me now? Anyway back to normal speak, I'm taking a break for a while in order to build up some new songs. Basically the musical world doesn't pump out good music at a rate fast enough [...]
