Sat down between a box of mushrooms and a noisy coffee machine in a cafe near London Fields I met up with James Yuill to discuss many things, but for Guilt Free Pleasures, it was remixing (if you want to read the rest of my interview it's on Planet Notion). So James, you seem to have been busy remixing recently...I've been really busy as people have contacted me and you know if they're friends
The past year was filled with unforgettable music. As I was poring over all of the great albums I began agonizing (often vocally to my wife) about how I was possibly going to choose which albums would make this list. Throughout the past two months I've been listening to twenty albums on constant repeat and below I present to you the fruits of this labor. 01 : The National - High Violet (amazon) (itunes) The National crafted an album in 201o that surpassed all of the hype that has been [...]

With Christmas now behind us for another year we can all pick our selves up, shake of the excess wrapping paper and chocolate and resume our normal routines. Being just days away from the new year it'll soon be time to look towards the future, but for now it's time for a nostalgic look back at the year past; it's list time, folks! While this might be the correct moment to write a retrospective look at the whole decade*, I think I'll limit myself to the more manageable task of listing my favourite 10 albums that 2010 had to offer. [...]
I've written a few times about Broadcast 2000 in the past, but it's been a few years since their EP was released. This time around they've upped the ante considerably and released a proper full length aptly titled Broadcast 2000 ( amazon ) ( itunes ). Simply put, every song is wonderful. mp3 : Broadcast 2000 - That Sinking Feeling mp3 : Broadcast 2000 - Your Own Worst Enemy It's great to see a group (which is really a collection of players based around Joe Steer) take [...]

He recently posted a collection of old remixes that were done quite a while back (mixed on headphones, apparently a no-no), including a few of Broadcast 2000 and one of Au Revoire Simone (today's Bonus Song of the Day). The contrast between those remixes and [...]

What a venue, what a show. Four fantastic bands performing at Wilton's Music Hall, the oldest surviving Grand Music Hall in the world, if you can believe that...
Even if the name seems unfamiliar you may have already heard Broadcast 2000. Picked up by the music supervisors responsible for 2008's EON Energy ad – the one where the guy is carrying his ball of energy around the house – that's it – the song 'Get Up And Go' was being played there for a month or so.

When I write reviews, I always like to give the music a few listens before writing about it. Preferably, I find the best way to focus on a whole album, versus just a few songs, is to let it play while I go about my daily life. That way, if there's anything that catches my [...]

Based in a London flat, classical music graduate Joe Steer has taken on the moniker Broadcast 2000 for his computer-aided folk music. In his own unique take on the genre, Steer plays a variety of acoustic instruments himself - including double bass, cello, guitar, ukulele, glockenspiel and percussion - and then loops and layers them using a computer. While his first EP, 'Building Blocks,' was essentially bedroom recordings, Steer has tried with his self-titled full-length debut to retain his music's un-polished, low-fi charm, while spicing things up a bit with new collaborations. Tom [...]

Broadcast 2000 - Get up and Go Finally went through the entire SXSW Showcasing Artists Torrent and I found this little gem hidden inside the B's. They're out of the UK and I believe touring through Deutschland this May.

Ryan (StopMe): As promised, TEN4SE7EN is back for good (I hope!). This is post number 50, so that's 500 tracks I've recommended so far over the past year and a half, here's to the next 500. This week, in-between listening to AC/DC's 'Back In Black' LP on a loop, I've brought together ten more exquisite musical treats: Broadcast 2000's 'That Sinking Feeling' is wonderfully melodic Folk with some quirky production flourishes. The string section is at once powerfully punchy and also sweetly graceful. [...]

WARNING: This post may cause uncontrollable bouts of severe enjoyment and musical discovery. Also by the time this page loads, SXSW may well be over. /END WARNING Disclaimer - Each year the SXSW organisers have been releasing hundreds and hundreds of songs by the artists who take part in the festival and bundling it up into a torrent for everyone to download and enjoy. It's completely legal as they've been given permission by the artists and labels to offer these songs for free, and this year was no [...]
It'll be no surprise to anyone that having a new baby in the house is not conducive to a gig-going habit. But although night-time pursuits are off the agenda for now, any withdrawal symptoms I have are being staved off by Pure Groove's lunchtime gigs. A couple of weeks ago ...

Filed under: Concerts and Tours While frontman Joe Steer considers his indie pop band Broadcast 2000 to be a solo effort, a multitude of musicians work on the project, utilizing everything from the cello to the glockenspiel. Residing in the UK, Broadcast 2000 will be making their US debut at SXSW this year. Spinner had a chat with Steer regarding his expectations for the festival, surfing, and the significance of the number 1069. How would you describe your sound? [...]

Broadcast 2000 is, or at least was, the one man creation of Devon born Joe Steer . According to the mandatory myspace blurb he's " a classical music graduate with a unique take on folk using computer-generated looping of acoustic instruments ". Thus genre obsessed hacks like myself would probably describe his music as Folktronica . Except there's very little evidence of the whole " tronica " thing on this self-titled debut. Drums and percussion [...]
