Sure, Occupy Wall Street is the hot social topic right now, so it makes sense politically-conscious musicians are putting out benefit albums to support the movement. But it wasn't all that long ago that a massive tsunami battered Japan, and they're still recovering. Blonde Redhead hasn't forgotten the disaster; in fact, the New York City alt-rock outfit has put together a new benefit compilation to aid in the recovery efforts. Curated by Blonde Readhead's Japanese born frontwoman, Kazu Makino, We are the Works in Progress features exclusive tracks from Four Tet, [...]

This week Major Bands, Minor Labels has news on a Sufjan Stevens collaboration with The Roots, Broadcast announcing a new album, and Lana Del Rey choosing to rent a tiger. All this and MORE! Read it HERE . http://rpc.blogcatalog.com/ http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ ping
I've already discussed my loyalty with The New Lines — a band of Broadcast-worshiping fellas who invest their time in the Pop side of future pop but still retain a floaty psychedelia that's more Space Age Bachelor Pad music than 60s revivalism. On "La Réciprocite", the band sounds like they've been on a Pulp binge, which really gives the tune more charm. You can find "La Réciprocite" on the group's new cassette release, Witches' Milk , out now through Moon Glyph .

Autograph and photo courtesy of the G Archives. Vin Scully It's hard to think of the Los Angeles Dodgers without hearing the voice of their announcer Vin Scully! He's been reporting on hits, runs and errors for over 50 years and he has one of the great voices in broadcasting. It's great that at 84 years of age, he is still going strong. Happy birthday Vin and keep rockin'! <!-- [...]

In an interview with Under the Radar Magazine , Broadcast 's James Cargill revealed that the band are working on a new album. This will be their first release since the sad passing of singer Trish Keenan earlier this year. There is no set release date yet but Cargill did say the album would include vocals from Keenan that were recorded before her death: "Trish left a lot of tapes, four-tracks and stuff, and I've been going through those. It's difficult, and I'm connected to it at the same time. It's wonderful, but I'm [...]

KPLR is not a radio station though it does send off the kinds of transmissions that might be confused with otherworldly interference and glittery static frequencies. The project has seen releases as the duo of Dexter Brightman and Jair Espinoza but Brightman's responsible for the work on their debut full-length (on which the two track streaming below appear). Brightman cites repetitive mechanical sounds from his work as source inspiration for these latest tracks, and you can definitely hear ...
The word 'perfect' gets totted around all too frequently when discussing music, pop or otherwise, but in the world of Broadcast I would say "Echo's Answer" is just about there. Culled from group's 1999 debut lp, The Noise Made by People, it's also one of my favorite Trish Keenan vocals. Utilizing a spartan, minimalist approach [...]

I've never been much of a fan of Halloween. Or at least not beyond my days of extreme candy greed. I have a hard time thinking of a costume, it's usually really terrible when I finally decide on one, and then I spend the rest of the night having everyone tell me how lame my costume is. So I gave up and just leave the holiday to the people that are into that sort of thing. But I do really like the strive for spookiness in Halloween. I'm not a big fan of the goofiness of the costumes [...]

" Switching gears to discuss the band's long-gestating LP, Cargill reveals that financial difficulties and the adjustment to working primarily as a duo contributed to the protracted delay of Broadcast's follow-up to 2005's Tender Buttons. He hints that it will embrace the pensive soft-focus side of the band, chartering dramatically different sonic territory than the cacophonous, braying 2009 EP collaboration with the The Focus Group, Investigate Witch Cults off the Radio Age. "Trish's vocals are really great," Cargill enthuses. [...]
