Lindsay Lohan was 12 when she shot to child stardom in The Parent Trap . But she wasn't too young to remember who helped her rise. "She was a wonderful woman and actress and treated me like I was her own," the now 22-year-old starlet said of former costar Natasha Richardson , who died Wednesday from head trauma apparently suffered in a skiing accident two days before. "I didn't see much of her over the years but I will miss her. [...]

At last, the gulf between the comic geeks and the aging rock enthusiasts has been bridged.
Bono and the Edge are composing music and lyrics for Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark , opening on Broadway 2/18/10. Seems like an unusual choice for Julie Taymor's $30 million extravaganza. According to Hollywood Reporter , Taymor will reunite her Across the Universe stars: Evan Rachel Wood is going to be Mary Jane and Jim Sturgess will play the titular Peter Parker.

Greetings Spider-Friends, today brings news of the official opening of the new Spider-Man Broadway musical that I initially mentioned back in May of 2007. Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark , with music & lyrics by Bono and The Edge and a book by Julie Taymor and Glen Berger will open on February 18, 2010 at the Hilton Theatre. Also, according to a story at Playbill.com , Evan Rachel Wood will star in the show, but no official casting announcement has [...]
Nevermind the fart gags-- Shrek the Musical is a tragedy that would make the Great Bard himself gnash his teeth.

I had a cold earlier this week, and decided it was the perfect time to watch a bootlegged copy of Milk that a friend had lent me. [Note: I am not condoning bootlegging.] It's an excellent film, most notably because of Sean Penn's skills as an actor. He has a way of completely embodying a character; to the point where it's easy to forget that it's Sean Penn. The story is simultaneously uplifting and sad; whether or not my emotions were out of whack due to sickness, I'm not sure, but I found myself sobbing on my couch, [...]

In a recent NY Times news blurp, it's said that Michael Jackson 's epic pop masterpiece, the 1982 "Thriller," will most likely get revamped as a Broadway musical, after the Nederlander Organization bought off the rights to produce it. According to the NYT, the whole album, along with MJ's other smashing record, "Off The Wall," will serve as soundtracks, while one of the most popular music video ever made will, probably, be the concept. Dancing zombies isn't exactly Cats , but it might just work. Oh, and Michael Jackson himself is supposidly [...]

![Patti LuPone Shows All Those Camera-Weary Band Bros How It Should Be Done [A Hey Asshole Special Report]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1472395_lg.jpg)
Are you in a band? Are you tired of people whipping out their digital cameras during your concerts, thus blocking the views of people behind them and distracting you from your appointed duty of putting on a show for everyone, even the people in the back? Well, give a listen to the clip above, in which Patti LuPone takes some time out from Gypsy to chew out some poor schmo who couldn't stop taking pictures during the show, despite numerous requests to put the cameras . Sure, the unspoken rules at concerts have become slightly different than those [...]
![Is "Dreamboat Annie" Going To Dock On The Great White Way? [They Say The Neon Lights Are Bright]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1455844_lg.jpg)
Just like the pop music business, the theater biz seems to have a deep love for that which once worked (despite a series of failures and embarrassments since). People liked Mamma Mia and (to a lesser degree) Movin' Out , so why not find another artist with a semi-extensive catalog and write a barely plausible script around songs with seemingly nothing in common besides their performer? Like, say, Heart? Allies is still a fair distance from the Great White Way—it's still in [...]

I'm happy to report that work on the new site is very nearly complete, and I'm now able to show you what it looks like right now. The site is still very much in its early stages, and until I get my computer back tomorrow I'm still limited in what I can post, but it's up and alive and ready for you to see. This site is going to stay active for at least another week or two while I get some other business in order, but checking the new page as well, since I'll slowly be introducing more material [...]

Iconic actress, singer, Broadway star, and all-around incredible lady Eartha Kitt passed away on Christmas Day at the age of 81. She was perhaps best known for her rendition of the popular Christmas song " Santa Baby ," or her portrayal of Cat Woman in the campy 60's version of the TV series "Batman," but her career spanned much further than these cultural mainstays. She was a dynamic, intelligent, and sexy performer who spoke four languages and sang in dozens, and left a legacy of amazing albums, films, and memorable performances. A one-of-a-kind singer with [...]

This same theater hosted the first shows of WSS back in 1957, and WSS is shaking the theater's neoclassical foundations again fifty-one years later. [...]

Ari Gold Jeremy Piven has abruptly bailed on his Broadway show after missing a Tuesday night performance and Wednesday matinee of the David Mamet play Speed-the-Plow . Piven informed the producers that he wasn't feeling well, which was attributed to high mercury counts. I know when I get sick and play hooky from work I don't come up with any crazy reasons like mercury poisoning. Which, I don't know if Piven was eating too much seafood or what not, but how exactly does one even get mercury poisoning these days? [...]
A message from your president about his last night in office. According to the Lawrence Plays Piano tumblr ( via ), the show might not be worth watching in person. It's a good thing HBO will be broadcasting the event live . Recently, Ferrell tested some of the material for his one-man Broadway show at the Largo theater in Los Angeles last Sunday night. The play is set in the moments immediately following Barack Obama being sworn into office and presents a portrait [...]
