Listening to the self-titled debut from Ukrainian-born, New York-based singer and songwriter Lana Mir (August 24, Unfiltered), we think it's safe to say no one broke a sweat during the making of the album. But we suspect that was the plan all along. With gentle electronic rhythms -- sometimes merging into bossa nova territory -- and a cool, spacious ambience from producer Andy Chase (Ivy, Brookville), Mir's lilting, detached vocals drift from the speakers as if tethered by the slightest of thread. Fortunately this icy cocktail of an album has just enough of a mercurial kick to pull [...]

Blown away and totally enraptured. That was my immediate response when I first dove into the latest Brookville album, Broken Lights. Evoking all the great mood bands of the '80's like Prefab Sprout and the Blue Nile, I couldn't resist. Once I dipped my toe into the water, I jumped on in head first, listen after listen, losing myself in the moody ambiance of atmospheric perfection. Immediately, we asked main Brookville man, Andy Chase, to pull up a glass of whiskey and join us on the Ripple red leather interview couch. [...]

Sometimes you just want to turn off the noise. Find something with a gentler vibe, more soothing, less harsh. With that in mind, we present another in our occasional columns of Ripple recommendations for music to Chill to. Alex Cuba - Agua Del Pozo Quite some time ago, my wife and I ditched society and decided to spend the night out on my father's sailboat. Not to go sailing, mind you, just to use it as a floating hotel. We'd [...]

The nice thing about music is that there's always something to discover, old or new. We caught the Brookville set a few week's back when they opened for Trachcan Sinatras at the Troubadour, and we were pretty impressed. Never heard of them, but we of course knew of Andy Chase (from Ivy and Paco ) and Brookville just happens to be one of his many projects. Anyway, the point of this post is to shed some light on Brookville's stellar take on The [...]

Had the Trashcan Sinatras emerged in the middle of this decade instead of the mid-'80s, I suspect they'd be festival-playing, Pitchfork-approved indie-pop heroes. As it is, the Scottish sextet has had an up-and-down ride — three brilliant albums in the '90s (and some MTV buzz) followed by record-label woes that caused the band to declare bankruptcy; and a fallow period followed by an alliance with producer Andy Chase (Ivy) that resulted in the comeback albums "Weightlifting" (2005) and "In the Music," which came out this month. The Trashies' cult following has always been strong in L.A., [...]
Brookville is the interesting side project of Andy Chase, producer, multi-instrumentalist and co-founder of the electro-pop trio Ivy with Fountain of Wayne mastermind Adam Schlesinger. While Ivy (featuring vocals from Chase's wife Dominique Durand) leans towards what Chase calls a "tight pop framework" on albums such as the excellent Apartment Life or their most recent release, '05's In the Clear , Brookville explores Chase's singular vision of "languid, atmospheric music" on new September album Broken Lights . Co-produced with Tahiti 80's Pedro Resende and featuring Chase's own smoky, unintrusive vocals, songs such as lead single [...]
The third album from Brookville, the electronic-tinged side-project of Ivy's Andy Chase, is on its way, and to celebrate the band is playing some very special shows. Early February will see the group in their hometown of New York twice (with a stop at DC's famed Black Cat in between!), while Valentine's Day finds Brookville [...]
Brookville, the side-project for Ivy's Andy Chase, will be playing three shows in New York in the next few weeks, including one TONIGHT at Park Slope's Union Hall. Next week there will be TWO chances to see the band, including a very special show on Tuesday, December 16 at Arlene's Grocery with Lana Mir and [...]

www.myspace.com/brookville I've been listening to Brookville's album Life in the Shade for months now but just never gotten around to writing about it. It's a shame on my part too as it's a really solid release from pop auteur Andy Chase of Ivy/Paco. Most of you who are familiar with Ivy's sophisticated dream pop should find an easy transition with listening to this as it doesn't stray too far

For months i've seen these Cassettes Won't Listen remixes featured everywhere, but i've never gotten around to listening to these myself. Not until a few days ago that I found in my email the newest track to recieve the remix treatment, “Everyone’s Starting Over†from NYC's The Diggs which is on their debut LP Commute . It's a solid remix, and was enough to make me search the internet for all these other remixes from Cassettes Won't Listen (also from NYC). [...]
