Earlier today I was on the phone with Brother Ali to talk about his recently released EP, The Bite-Marked Heart , his year-long break from heavy touring, and his forthcoming LP. Recently, a local college had a small charity concert featuring Brother Ali . Although, I had seen him a few times before, I decided to go and enjoy some good live music for an hour or so. I first heard of Quadir Lateef ( website // Twitter ) sometime in the Fall of last year when Brother Ali wrote on Twitter about his "Corner Store Confession" video (watch it after the jump). The Minneapolis rapper's lyrical content is full of complex worldplay and has a pervading focus on social justice. Yesterday, Minneapolis rapper Brother Ali dropped a brand new Valentines-appropriate EP titled The Bite Marked Heart via his label Rhymesayer's SoundCloud page . The seven-track effort features guest spots from Phonte and Stokley Williams and Aby Wolf, and is available to stream and download below. Brother Ali is currently working on his fifth studio album Mourning in America and Dreaming in Color which is set for release later this year.
