Squeezed out of our inbox in the last couple of weeks, this two part edition for Nov 09 has some great tunes. The first part is consisted mainly of indie / indiepop / folk stuff, which makes up about 80% of our inbox. This months noteworthy promos include: + Brown Bird's sophomore " The Devil Dancing " on Peapod Records. An indie / folk group "resting wonderfully on a bed of cello, acoustic guitar, banjo and other assorted instruments". Emotional without any sentimentalism. Check out if you like Balmorhea . + [...]

The Providence based band Brown Bird has been blowing up my Twitter feed thanks to Slowcoustic (posts here and here ). The band plays a gloomy blend of americana and indie folk. David Lamb's voice is deep and resonant, his songs are suitably dark and are laden with many intense images and appropriate instrumentation. The band sits somewhere between the slow dark folk of J. Tillman and the punk spirit of O'Death. The band's new record The Devil Dancing is out November 10th and can be preordered [...]
![Poised for a groundswell? Providence's Brown Bird prep new album [mp3]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2121521_lg.jpg)
A few things have gone well for David Lamb recently. His Providence-by-way-of-Maine-by- way-of-Seattle pet project Brown Bird seems to be hitting a lot of right notes of late. After releasing an impressive album last year (2008's The Bottom Of The Sea ), Brown Bird have been playing and touring relentlessly and solidifying their sound, developing into a miniature orchestra of harmonized voices and instruments. In a music industry where americana music is groundswelling, Brown Bird might be poising themselves for a breakthrough. If timing and location have anything to do with it, [...]

The band is Brown Bird. The album is The Devil Dancing. The release is November 2009. Stalk Peapod Recordings and I am sure it will pop up at some point. A bit about the album recording; "The Devil Dancing" is Brown Bird's second full-length album on Peapod Recordings. The album is set to be released on CD and LP in November of 2009. It was recorded in two separate multi day sessions. The first session took place at Hogfarm Studios in Biddeford, ME and included the upright bass [...]
Brown Bird is a wonderful Americana-inspired band based out of Rhode Island and Maine. Their last album The Bottom Of The Sea was one of my favorite records I discovered last year. Their newest offering The Devil Dancing is due out in October on Peapod Recordings. Here's "Bottom of the Bottle" from the new album. Enjoy.
Brown Bird, resident dirty Americana musicians of Providence's west side, recently sat down with AngioplastyMedia and showd'em who's boss. Well, in a cello/fiddle/guitary sort of way. You know how we do over here. We keep it realz. [FIXED the totally wrong video link (too many soda-pops)- TDTD]

It is true my friends, Brown Bird has new material hitting the proverbial streets this October. News as such makes this blogger a happy fellow. Dave Lamb is the driving force behind the musical entity that is Brown Bird and he has been a favourite for a few years. See previous post HERE and the appearance on my best of 2008 list HERE . If you haven't heard, you gotta hear, love it and sit with me as we await the release date when things in this crazy world [...]

The Low Anthem's "Oh My God, Charlie Darwin" (Nonesuch Records) could quite possibly be one of the most personal and dreamy albums of this year. The album finds Low Anthem steeped in tradition in their connection to the land and those who live by it, but this record goes deeper and wider, incorporating Americana, blues and soul elements in a bracingly original and carefully recorded package. Ben Knox Miller, Jeff Prystowsky, and Jocie Adams recorded the album in the most remote place they could find near their Providence, Rhode Island home. The album takes the [...]
in hindsight you're gonna wish you were here you keep scratching at the old paint but the wood is still there and the room is still there if you're trying to feel the wind well that's a window you're pressed against Look for Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, Wilco (performing Daniel Johnston), Deer Tick (performing Paul Simon), Fleet Foxes, Blind Pilot, The Decemberists, The Long Winters, Nirvana (live, in honor of his death, 15 yrs ago), Brown Bird, and Bonnie 'Prince' Billy.

One tour I would love to see would be the upcoming tour of Brown Bird and Chriss Sutherland. While both have been featured here on Slowcoustic in the past ( here & here ), teaming up these two...that is bad ass. Chriss has a new album "Worried Love" and Brown Bird will be looking to also have new material released shortly...why not tour!!?? I don't have too much info on it, but I believe it will be starting in March and keep close to the Eastern Seaboard - [...]

Sorry for not posting yesterday, it should wet your appetite for a great post...well people, it looks to have all worked out then....everyone, I give you; Brown Bird (or David Lamb) has been around officially for the last 5 years (maybe a bit more actually...), but is finally getting his credit where it has been due for a while - well from me at least! I first heard Brown Bird a few years back when I absolutely had to have the pseudo compilation "Tautology" which is actually kind of a merging [...]

Sometimes I like to play a kind of 'six degrees of Kevin Bacon' style game and randomly click on the top friends of a band on myspace, then randomly click on another and so on until I discover a new band I like the sound of. This is how I came across Brown Bird. Brown Bird is David Lamb, who started making music under that moniker in 2002. Lamb was joined by married couple Jeremy and Jerusha Robinson in 2004. The Robinsons would continue to be a part of the band for the the next 5 years, through [...]

serendipidous discoveries are always a little sweeter. how i happened across brown bird is a story of internet enthusiasm. trying to buy my aunt an early christmas present from the very beautiful ferdinand homestore i received an email back from di, who runs it telling me not only how to buy lovely things from her but also about her husband's record label, peapod recordings which she thought we might like. i should know to trust a lady who picks out lucite brooches not much bigger than a penny to sell.
