Some of music's biggest names have signed up to a new scheme where fans can get free gig tickets in exchange for helping to fight extreme poverty....

On May 1, 1973 at the Ahmanson Theatre in LA, Bruce Springsteen and his E Street Band took the stage as the opening act for Dr Hook And The Medicine Show and headliners New Riders of The Purple Sage. The 40 minute set was shot by a film crew on behalf of CBS Records. Among the songs were "Spirit In The Night", "Wild Billy's Circus Story" from the forthcoming The Wild, The Innocent and the E Street Shuffle and fan favorite " Thundercrack".The footage stayed locked in CBS vaults for years its release as part of the [...]
You may have heard that The National, bless them, will be at P.S. 1 in New York this weekend, performing the same song — "Sorrow," from their album High Violet — for six hours straight, as part of a collaboration with artist Ragnar Kjartansson. According to the gallery, the show "continues [Kjartansson's] explorations into the potential of repetitive performance to produce sculptural presence within sound." That's all very well, but where does this fit into the hierarchy of insanely long shows? Read on to find out. [...]
Here Bruce presents a variation on "Be careful of what you wish for...," turned sideways as "...with every wish comes a curse." We want that job, no matter what it might do to us. We want that person, even if they're not "the one." The thing is, for the most part we really can't help what we wish for, especially [...]

The soul-rock pioneers hold a special place in Little Steven's heart, as they were the first big-time band he saw perform, inspiring him and fellow attendee Bruce Springsteen to pursue their musical [...]
Diarrhea Planet and Patrick Stickles deliver a faithful-but-hardcore cover of Springsteen's 'Born to Run.'
The Wailin' Jennys is spawning some excellent solo albums. First Heather Masse, now Ruth Moody is set to release her sophomore solo album, These Wilder Things, on May 7th. Moody's angelic, lilting soprano tangles with pop-polished bluegrass and folk. The ... Continue reading

At the end of last year, Song Dogs , an independent prairie-heavy roots rock band from Philadelphia released their debut ten track LP, Wild Country . The band consists of inner-city high school teachers, a poet, a law student, and a Liberian immigrant who, because of gender stereotyping, was not allowed to play drums in her homeland. The writing process consisted of four of the band members which in turn makes Wild Country a musically diverse release, encompassing everything captivating of this unique genre. "The [...]

So you just read that title right? One of my favorite bands from last year, Diarrhea Planet, and Patrick Stickles, the singer from one of my favorite bands Titus Andronicus, cover Bruce Springsteen's "Born To Run" and it AWESOME! Stickles, a New Jersey native, absolutely made The Boss and the whole state of NJ proud with this cover. Diarrhea Planet had a huge SXSW getting on many top 10 lists and gaining many new fans. I saw these guys last October with fellow Nashville rockers, JEFF The Brotherhood, and I was completely blown away. I've been following them [...]
Earlier this month, the charmingly monikered triple-guitar Nashville punk monster Diarrhea Planet played at the Brooklyn DIY venue Shea Stadium. And at the show, their friend and frequent tourmate Patrick Stickles, frontman of Titus Andronicus, joined them onstage to cover Bruce Springsteen's immortal " Born To Run ," a song Stickles has already referenced in song. "Born To Run" is great in any context, but when it's a mass punk-show singalong, it's somehow even greater. Watch video below. Read More...

There's a story we think of often, when, in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, Bruce Springsteen was apparently out and about and someone driving by spotted him and shouted from their truck, "Bruce, we need you!" Such is the power of music, and people's visceral, often umbilical, relationship to it. Music comforts. Music uplifts. Sometimes it does the best it can to solve problems. And of course it can bash and pop and do all those other things we love about it. The whole of Boston and the immediately surrounding region was shaken badly last week by [...]
Here's a great example of how Bruce's live performance can transform a song. "Gloria's Eyes," the studio version is nothing special. A guy-loses-girl story set to a rolling guitar figure/blues changes thing. And while I do like the song on record - the twangy guitars and Springsteen's vocal energy are undeniable - it's in the concert hall where Bruce really [...]
"Cross My Heart" immediately struck me as one of those little naughty slice of life vignette's to be placed alongside songs like "Pink Cadillac" and (more recently) "You've Got It." The innuendo is about as subtle as most old blue tunes (read: not), but that's part of it's charm. I was lyin' there with something sweet and salty in my [...]
Paul McCartney's as-yet untitled new solo album is said to feature guest appearances by Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton and - in a surprise - the living members of Nirvana. Mick Ronson, of Amy Winehouse fame, produced four tracks. McCartney, of course, made a stir late last year when he appeared on stage with Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear [...]
Filed under: The Hit List HENRY DILTZ, AFP/Getty Images When Rhode Island's Newport Jazz Festival debuted in 1954, audience members sat in neat rows of folding chairs and applauded politely for acts like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and the Dizzy Gillespie Quintet. Six years later, fans were so anxious to get into the festival, a riot occurred as ticket-less music lovers stormed the gates during a Ray Charles set, prompting a visit from the National Guard. The Morning Call (Allentown, Pa.) (MCT) -- ALLENTOWN, Pa. - On a July evening in 1975, a rising musician who had critics fawning but hadn't yet captured the fancy of the general public was at a Kutztown, Pa., hotel during a two-night stand at the state college. His manager appeared at the hotel room door, carrying a fresh test copy of the just-completed album the singer had labored over for an agonizing year and a half. The artist gathered his band and...
Shovels & Rope cover Bruce Springsteen's 'Johnny 99.'

This weeks feature comes from a pretty familiar band to our website. Dawes is back today with the release of their third album Stories Don't End and I have to say I am pretty happy with what I am hearing. While Dawes has been quite consistent through their four year existence in terms of sound, they play it to their advantage. Stories Don't End sounds like something that Crosby, Stills, and Nash might have written and at points I get a hint of Bruce Springsteen from frontman Taylor Goldsmith , all great artists to be emulating. This [...]
