This low-key, low profile band with an impressively obscure background has dropped their album into the vast ocean of popular music with all the power of a pebble. The ripple is small and subtle, but if you slip off your sneakers and dip your toes in the water Buildings Breeding will delight your whole soul. Their name connotes the roar (or maybe moans) of earthquakes, but their restrained guitar work, soft melodies and gently doubled vocals make up the sweet sighs of dreams. A slight 60s flair and random acts of atmospherics add just the right amount of spice to [...]

More often than not I am normally won over by music that gets stuck in my head and never leaves, so I get especially excited when it comes from something that I didn't expect it too For example today's object of my affection, Buildings Breeding, were originally intended to be apart of tomorrow's EP but since I have caught myself humming their songs rather often over the last few days I figured they were worthy of some more in-depth analysis. The California quartet are about to release their self titled debut full length on January 23 via Mushpot [...]
It does me proud when I can look on a map, and see respected indie artists, in my own backyard. I live in Sacramento, home of the CAULIFORNIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAHHHHHHHHHH governator. Loved the Warren Beatty line about how he changed him to...

Davis, CA Wow! What a great way to start 2007. The self-titled CD from Buildings Breeding is one of the most pleasing things I'm listening to these days. This one is packed with rich sounds that invite comparisons ranging from The Shins to Yo La Tengo. Its official release is January 23 from the new label Mushpot Records . "Stacking Up Reasons" [...]

Say that 5 times fast. Okay, maybe not. But anyways, Buildings Breeding out of Davis, CA do make some beautiful pop music that's fancied my attention as of late. The album's out next week, but there's a link where you can stream the entire album (below), and check it out before you grab it. Chris Larsen was the mastermind behind this band. Originally started as a project under an alias, Larsen soon got the help of Melanie Glover, the two of whom [...]

Here's the first extrawack! Baker's Dozen Downloads of the new year...as usual, these are thirteen tracks we think you need to have on the personal listening device of your choice, and to maybe even hold up said device with the backlight on so that the people around you on the train or in the pizza joint can see how au courant you really are.
