Legendary New York DJ John Morales on mixing duties here, what more can we say the man is a legend! Bumble Bee Unlimited's, 1979 hit, ' I Got a Big Bee ' is a brilliant percussive dance-floor track complete with disco lasers, Martian vocals and heavy b-boy breaks. Find this and more (Sun-Ra, Fonda Rae, etc) on the ' The Blank Generation - Blank Tapes NYC 1971 - 1985 ' compilation. Bumble Bee Unlimited - I Got A Big Bee (John Morales mix)

With its anthemic backing track and trippy sped up vocals, Lady Bug is considered by many to be a definitive disco banger. I have always been somewhat dubious about the chipmunk style vocals but Patrick Adams and Greg Carmichael's incredible production work definitely breaks through. There were many 12" versions pressed upon its release in 1978, including the original on Greg Carmichael's Red Greg and a later RCA pressing featuring remix work from two of New York City's hottest DJ's at the time: John Morales and Larry Levan. These were both very [...]

Aknast välja vaadates tundub, et Tallinna Linnavalitsus on otsustanud kevadilmade pealt kokku hoida ja hiljem ilmataadi tanki panna. Noh, nagu ikka. Mina ei kurda, mul on palju kevadiselt rõõmsameelset muusikat varuks. Näiteks seitsmekümnendate klassikaliselt diskokoosluselt Bumblebee Unlimited, mille lood siiani tantsukingi väga edukalt kuluma panevad. Been listening to both old and new stuff these days. In with the old, in with the new, is what I say. So I'm really excited for the new Phoenix album which comes out May 25th, and is really far away which is lame. Anywho their site is a nice little teaser, and I'm loving the load animation. Also they seem to be quite tech savvy with their blog, twitter, and facebook links. Impressive. I also came across an oldie but a goodie, Bumblebee Unlimited's Love Bug off Annie 's DJ Kicks from 2005. Annie's site is [...]

I was in Chinatown the other day, scouring the art galleries and meeting up with the owners of a certain boutique called Choose Chinatown (check it out, folks!) Somewhere in the back alleys of Chung King Plaza, I stumbled upon a tremendous number of dead/dying bees. I think someone had smashed a hive, but regardless of the cause of death, the sight was pretty jarring in a transient sort of way. The bee apocalypse! So bees were on my mind, which got me freely associating with everything bee-related, from honey (PB and honey sandwich!) [...]

To begin with, is it possible to make retractions in this mashupblogging thing? Cause remember this one I posted? Get It Kelly (Lloyd vs. Van She) Yeah? No? Either way, just never mind that one, now. THIS is what I SHOULD'VE done. Sink It Shawty (Lloyd, Young Joc vs. Delete) Yes, yes, much better. Alright, this one... I just want to say I've never heard two songs that work together like these two do. In fact when I first made this (a while ago) [...]

As long as I'm on the subject of artist-compiled mixes, here's something that good ol' Annie told me about on her entry in the DJ-Kicks series, which is a really screwed-up album (in a very good way). Who knows? Without Annie, maybe I would have gone my whole life without knowing that there was an entire album of bumblebee disco. (This 123 version is almost 10 minutes of bees and 22MB, so if you download it, you better be serious about it...) Bumblebee Unlimited [...]
It's been a minute since I last posted some music but I've been listening to a lot of old grooves which I'm planning to feature on here. I thought I'd start with some classic late 70's / early 80's disco funk. First up is Jimmy "Bo" Horne's Spank. Just looking at this dude's face on his record cover, you know he's a freak and he means every line of this song. No, but really, how priceless is this cover!? Second song I got on the fullyfitted blog . It's a Devlin edit of a 1978 song from Canadian [...]
Willie Hutch on Soul Train doing 'Slick' from 1973. Awesome footage of the main man responsible for the soundtracks for 'The Mack' and 'Foxy Brown' - early seventies blaxploitation in all it's pomp. 'Brother's Gonna Work It Out' available below... Willie Hutch - Brother's Gonna Work It Out Weldon Irvine - We Gettin' Down Bumblebee Unlimited - Funk For Days (Underdog Edit)
