Words by Andrew Barber ( @FakeShoreDrive ) I last interviewed Bump J a little over a year ago, while he was serving out a portion of his sentence in a federal penitentiary in Big Springs, TX. Despite his dismal situation, Bump remained optimistic and maintained a positive outlook on life - the past, present and future. The contagious confidence he displayed in his rise to the top of Chicago's hip-hop food chain was still alive and well. In the short-term, he hoped to be transferred to a facility closer to his family in the Midwest. [...]

Produced by Hollywood J. The last time we heard something from KC, he was alongside Broski who happens to be Bump J.'s younger brother. Well, the two are back with a new joint and they're looking to hit a lick. This one goes. Lick KC f/ Broski - Lick
Courtesy of Will Gates Wow, this is a gem. Acclaimed Chicago director and documentarian, Will Gates, dug up this unreleased interview of Bump J, just days after inking his deal with Atlantic Records in 2004. This footage was filmed seven days prior to Bump flying to Los Angeles to break ground on his debut with Kanye West. Bump talks about receiving a million dollars flat from the label, and tells the story of how Lyor Cohen and Craig Kallman came to his house in Chicago. He also takes a few shots at comedian DeRay Davis, and [...]

A special NYE gift from DJ V-Dub & the Chief Bump J. V-Dub was one of the first DJ's in Chicago to embrace Bump and the Goon Squad during their triumphant journey to the top in the mid-aughts. During this time, V-Dub spun an astonishing amount of Bump freestyles and exclusives-many of which were never released-that he's compiled for this mixtape. 20 new tracks and exclusives. A must download for any Bump fan. Download and stream below, plus check out some new pics of Bump behind the walls. All hail the Chief! [...]

Happy Holidays (whatever you may celebrate) from the FSD family. Today, we've reunited with frequent contributor Jaycee to bring you DJ Mechanically Incline's The Union Vol. 5 mixtape, which is a classic street set from 2003-04. The project features rare, unheard and somewhat unreleased music from the early-aughts. Back in 03-04, Kanye was about to blow, Lupe was beginning to bubble, and a young MC by the name of Bump J was running the streets-and DJ Mechanically Incline was able to impeccably capture this era on this project. Released in various stores around the [...]

Produced by Tapez A tagged version of this unreleased Bump record appeared on V-Dub's We Affiliated mixtape, which dropped last week ( download it here if you missed it). I spoke with Bump last week, and he relayed that his live-from-the-pen mixtape is on deck. I'm not allowed to share the title yet, but you know where to look when I can. Bump J ft. Finally some sun shines down on Bump stans such as myself. FSD has learned exclusively from Bump and Bump's camp that he'll be recording a new project straight from behind the walls of the Big Spring Federal Correction Institution in Big Spring, TX. The wheels are already in motion, so expect to hear music from this sooner than later. Very exciting news, and I can't wait to hear the outcome.

Today we're introducing a new series on FSD entitled The FSD Three, where we talk to an artist or producer about three of their favorite tracks ever recorded, and why each means so much to them. It's only right that we kick things off with an artist who helped kick FSD off: Bump J. The currently-incarcerated rapper has one hell of a catalog, and possibly as many songs Pac had on lock stash. Unfortunately, many outside of Chicago never heard or witnessed Bumpy's greatness, as he was arrested and convicted before a proper album ever hit shelves. I caught up [...]

Keep on pushin'. Anytime Bump & Kanye hooked up for a track, something super dope was the end result. 20022s "Pushaman" was no exception. Featuring a sample of The Impressions' "Keep On Pushing", the track grew to become one of my all-time favorites from the Goon Squad frontman. Fast forward to 2005 and Bun B.'s solo debut, Trill , has hip-hop junkies everywhere rejoicing. Featuring collaborations with some of the south's finest, there was one track that stood out to me. Number seven, "Pushin'", featuring Young Jeezy & Scarface. Mr. Lee flipped the [...]
The title says it all. Chi snaps with this one.

Not from Houston, but I rap a lot I've been into jamming Screw since High School. Back when you couldn't just search for the Mediafire link via the Google, you actually had to dig and hunt down actual DJ Screw cassettes. By the time they got this far up north, they were usually a dub of a dub of a dub, or a fake. Usually a fake. You might get lucky to find the name of the tape scribbled on one of those thin cassette stickers, but typically you had no additional info to go with the beat up Maxell you just [...]
Now that's a lineup. Chella was able to recruit everyone featured on the track for the video, with the obvious exception of Bump, but she was able to snag his son for the part. The video was shot in various locations and neighborhoods throughout the City, and Boogz did the beat. The track was featured on Chell's The Abortion mixtape, which dropped back in January.

![Bump J – Runnin' My City [Full] (Prod. by SC)](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3195984_lg.jpg)
So a few months ago you heard Mikkey Halsted's "Runnin' My City" , which appeared on The Dark Room and featured Bun B, Crooked I, Killer Mike, Chip Tha Ripper, Gillie Da Kid and Mistah FAB. A stellar lineup and equally dope song. A short while later , another version appeared featuring a new verse from Bump J tacked on. Even better. Well, what you may not have known, is that this song originally belonged to Bump, and was set to appear on the project he was working on prior to the pen. After his incarceration, [...]

And here it is. The moment you've all been waiting for. The unreleased Bump J and Vudu Spellz track we've been pumping for the past few weeks. Apparently, this joint was recorded just days before Bump was taken down on federal bank robbery charges in late '08, and stands as his last finished song. Fact or fiction, I'm not sure, but I do know that this shit goes, and it's easily the best track featuring bedspring noises since those guys from Trillville did it back in '04. Chief in this bitch. Grant Parks and Vudu Spellz' [...]
