Some dubstep conspiracy theorists claim that Burial (Will Bevan) and Four Tet (Kieran Hebden) are in fact the same person, and this is not unreasonable to believe. They both attended The Elliott School, London (as did three members of Hot Chip) and Burial keeps his identity buried exclusively within the mystery of his music. They both make experimental electronica, each drawing influence from the other, Burial venturing more into ambient dubstep with Four Tet indulging in everything from folktronica to underground dance. To further excite the conspiracy theorists, Radiohead, who have worked with Burial, listed a post [...]

My recent music forays have led towards many different genres that weren't the mainstay of the blog early on. In my humble opinion (IMHO), dubstep and many other more sparse, minimalistic musical stylings are slowly beginning to dominate the electronic music scene. For example, the most impressive nu-disco I was hearing last year was very french/disco house-y with a nice uptempo feel. However, recent trends have even formed the once upbeat genre into a much more minimalistic styling best exemplified by tensnake's lastest EP. Whether or not this all coincides with looming 2012 is perhaps coincidence or maybe not. Here [...]

Caspa is back with another sick remix. This is one of those tunes you can really just chill the fuck out and vibe to, straight early mornin' rinse out type shit. Deadmau5 & Kaskade - I Remember (Caspa Remix) Caspa is a huge name in the dubstep scene and is due for a stop in Toronto soon. Lets keep our fingers crossed. On that same chill out vibe, check this new stuff from Burial . When it comes to that genre-bending type [...]

It's been a while since I last posted so I thought I'd do another random roundup of what's been floating my boat recently. First up, the best Electronica track I've heard all year. 'Maybes' by Mount Kimbie is their first official release on Scuba's label Hotflush Recordings . It's all Blade Runner atmospherics , Burial style vocal samples and plink plonk percussion. Judging by this I can't wait to hear more of their next EP . Mount [...]

To some, Burial & Four Tet's new collaboration may seem simple and prosaic, but it is this understatement that is ostensibly used to allow the track and all of its subtleties to creep into your subconscious and secure its place as one of the years most meticulously and beautifully crafted masterpieces. This is an opus that We Plants Are Happy Plants sticks faithfully to with "Apollo", a flagrantly brilliant song that was one of the most popular on hypem.com last month thanks to Binary . Burial & Four Tet [...]

Burial/Four Tet - Moth This song is for dancing, but also for flowing drunkenly down a street, walking beneath the streetlights of East Berlin, looming like soldiers, spilling yellow onto the street, oil and light mixing by the footpath. You look ahead and see young men crouched by a wall, writing something indecipherable. You look up and see a single red light blotting above everything in the distance, and the buildings around you stand tall and crowded, a city falling into itself. You stumble on the cobbles, and notice the beat in this song, hidden [...]

TRACK REVIEW: Burial/Four Tet - Wolf Club (taken off the 123) words: Jamie Milton The second of our two-part review collection in which we look closely at the two individual efforts on the Burial/Four Tet collab. Go here to read our review of 'Moth'. You might be hard pushed to find any evidence of Burial's presence in 'Wolf Club' during its opening. A more light, fresh melody dominates the first few minutes and were it not for the heady atmosphere so subtlely [...]

TRACK REVIEW: Burial/Four Tet - Moth (taken off the forthcoming 123) words: Jamie Milton One half of the collarboation 123 which hit shelves earlier this month and subsequently sold out, between the mysterious Burial (aka. Will Bevan, or so we're being told...) and the less censored Keiran Hebden. Here, MFM takes a closer look at 'Moth', the first track. The initial response to 'Moth' and 'Wolf Club' is that it's everything you'd expect from a Burial and Four Tet collaboration. There's a [...]

Easily, my song of the week is a track steeped in mystery – and deep in groove. I must have played "Moth," the unexpected collaboration of underground heroes Burial and Four Tet , dozens of times this week. Ultra hip and surprisingly soulful, it seemed to go well with doing anything – surfing the Web, doing the dishes, choosing fonts, imagining I was King of the World. Try it yourself. Episode 51 of The Mix Tape Podcast is now available to download ! With the release of the fantastic new album from The Horrors this week we just had to take a listen with our first track for episode 51. Trying hard not to forget Telepathe's debut album Dance Mother released back in January, we pull in a rather wonderful remix from Chairlift of the glorious So Fine. Rusko takes things to the underground with a remix for the Bionic Commando video [...]

Burial & Four Tet - "Moth" . . . dance music at its most sublimely tragic. It's like crushing existential despair packaged in a song.

An exception piece of music that has the music world throbbing with excitement, akin to those of a slightly besotted male teenager finally releasing the bra straps of a beautiful woman. At 9 minutes this track provides the listener with something of a journey through trademark depths of sound by Burial and those sampled acoustic noises of Four Tet. Truth is, did anyone think this collaboration would work quite so beautifully? No. The beauty of this piece is further excentuated with the chopped up hazy vocal that we've all come to love in Burials two step influenced tunes. [...]

OK. I suck. A whole week went by without me posting (which makes me feel bad and I don't know why). In my defense I was planning Bell's birthday party (which involved also creating five cds that made up all of the songs that Bell and I have introduced into our weird world over ten years of friendship) and had four days to do it (and for all you guys out there who say that's enough, well, that's why you're guys) - it went splendidly, thanks for asking. I managed to throw Blue Curacao all over my kitchen. Then I [...]

Burial & Four Tet- Moth (Link 2) There came a point in 2008 when the hype behind Burial's identity became much bigger than the music he produced. Just as with Banksy, anonymity doesn't sit well with the British public, and the tabloids do their best to either find out or make things difficult for individuals who choose to keep their work and personal life separate. A nomination for the Nationwide Mercury Prize was a fitting reward for two fantastic albums. Anonymously working as a dubstep producer in South London, William Bevan had [...]

There's a lot of critically acclaimed music out there that I never got. To this day, I don't know anyone who actually listens to The Field, although I've seen their music praised in dozens of publications. Burial is another crush of the critics, but one that I actually love. It's probably mostly due to my first Burial experience: I was driving from VA to NC in the pouring rain. I decided to throw in Untrue and let it play through. That was one of my most memorable 'first time listening to an album' memories. [...]
