"It's better when it's short! I mean, we can have a nice, long conversation but I like it when the pieces are relatively short. Unless it's supposed to be an in-depth piece centred around a certain idea – the way in which the writer looks at the world, or something. Then maybe it's interesting." So spake Alex "Agor" Cowan of Blue Hawaii now some weeks ago at the somewhat insalubrious end of Holloway Road and although this won't be the so-called "snapshot kinda: 'Blue Hawaii come from Montréal, and their favourite game is billiards, and they love drinking [...]

The Haxan Cloak's Excavation BY JORDAN MAINZER Death stopped for Emily Dickinson. If only he would be so polite towards The Haxan Cloak's Bobby Krlic. Within the first two minutes of The Haxan Cloak's incredible new album Excavation , Krlic (who kind of looks like Sam Beam's evil twin) pays tribute to some of the most invigorating and simply creepiest musical ideas of the past half-decade, from the leeching strings of Jonny Greenwood's soundtracks for There Will Be Blood and The Master to Death [...]

Kieran Hebden, better known as Four Tet , is quite possibly one of the most inspiring artists of our generation. Collaborating with the likes of Thom Yorke and Burial, Hebden has made some of the best melodic music in the past decade. Since his debut record "Dialogue" in 1999 Hebden has forever made a lasting impact on ambient music. Yesterday was the 10th anniversary of his seminal third album "Rounds" which has been reissued in celebration of this historic date. Today he shares with us the original version of the album [...]

Bloum is a young group from around Paris, made up of two acoustic/electronic musicians and two visual artists. The band produces electro creations, influenced by artists like Four Tet, Burial , XXYYXX , Pachanga Boys , Nicolas Jaar ... right up to Magic Malik . They contacted me to showcase their work. I fell in love with their sound. And even more when they uploaded 'Flower Dress' to their Soundcloud profile. It's easy what I would call "Slolectro". A mix between Employee Of The Year's Slow French genre and some more up-lifting Electro. [...]

On Thursday, the Worcester Police Department announced the burial of Boston bombing suspect and fugitive Tamerlan Tsarnaev, which for several days has been an issue since no funeral home or private property wanted the piece of shit in their backyard. But, according to police, a "courageous and compassionate individual came forward." We have no clue where the body has been buried, only that it's no longer within the city limits of Worcester, Massachusetts, which has kept Tsarnaev's corpse at Graham Putnam & Mahoney Funeral Parlors. Tsarnaev's parents requested that their son's body be returned [...]

Monday? Innately awful. New BRAIDS ? Ineffably brilliant. They've no need to make Amends for anything in particular, not least as the ringleader of the Montréal troupe Raphaelle Standell-Preston already has our album of the year thus far under her belt in the inscrutably excellent form of Blue Hawaii sophomore, Untogether . It's an endeavour which has by now quite evidently had a not insubstantial impact upon her more widely renowned, and with that revered escapades alongside the blokes of BRAIDS, and I say blokes as opposed to guys as they've recently parted ways with [...]

Vancouver-based producer Patrick Holland has been busy in recent weeks. While not in the studio or at school, he has been warming up local crowds for the likes of Shlohmo , Groundislava , and Ryan Hemsworth and others as well as playing casual sets at the Chapel Sound nights . In late March, he released his second EP titled Over It via our very own web-based label Blenheim & Celtic . Although Over It did not receive an avalanche of press, the record met with enthusiastic approval from [...]
There's something sadly thrilling about getting to sit in front of my computer and watch Coachells unfold before me without paying hundreds of dollars, enduring crazy temperatures, dust, dirt, and douche bags. Right now I'm flipping back and forth between New Order and Phoenix. I couldn't do that at the festival...I would have to choose...currently, I'm winning. Because at home, I get both.
Last year's Orchard-IODA merger brought a veritable treasure trove of great new music into our system. We've had the very pleasurable opportunity to do a fair bit of exploration over the last 13 months and thought we might share a cross section of highlights. The following playlist includes household names to ...

Bonobo: The North Borders - Having listened to, and enjoyed their former album, Black Sands , I was very pleased to see that Bonobo had dropped a new album this March. I immediately got my hands on The North Borders , remembering old tracks like ‘Kong’ and ‘El Toro’ and knowing that I was in for something exciting. Just glancing at the track listing I could already imagine the variety of flavors and textures that would be present in this new work. The album showcases four different featured artists, [...]

Brighton producer Lorca is still a few weeks away from the full release of his If I Told You EP on 2020 Midnight Visions , but with the vinyl release of the EP today, fans can listen to the standout "Searching." Dripping with mulled Burial sheen and acid house noir, "Searching" floats between distant and romantic with scathing ease. Listen to the track below and grab the If I Told You EP April 15 as a Beatport exclusive.

Not sure if you're aware, but Melbourne dude CHET FAKER (also known as Nick Murphy outside of the industry) is in the process of recording his debut album. While we're patiently awaiting the inevitable soul-infused, electronic masterpiece, all we've had to listen to in between is his sublime Thinking In Textures EP and YouTube videos. So with joy and glee we can now add to that as he's just released his Live Sessions EP! Recorded in Newstead - an old regional town in Victoria, Faker and his band buddies [...]
