Speaking frankly, Busdriver definitely isn't my favorite artist in the world. His music is often times so far left that it soars right over my head. Every now and then, though, he comes out with some stuff that really hits the spot. And, thanks to Dark Time Sunshine producer Zavala, a remix of "Utilitarian Uses of Love" is doing the trick for me yet again. With some nifty drum breaks, Zavala does a fine job of transforming this already stellar single. Check it out below. This remix will be found on the release of the deluxe [...]

Review courtesy of the Uber Max Bell. Milwaukee's Milo has a "big brain"- like Jimmy Neutron if he talked about Nietzsche's Übermensch instead of science. Think of Milo as a more introspective and well read Ab-Soul for fans of Vonnegut and Phillip K. Dick. Allusions aside, he's an intelligent, unabashedly horny '90s baby with an inexhaustible store of knowledge (high/low culture and otherwise) and a prodigious gift for thought-provoking and brow-furrowing bars. His come-ons are only understood by those who know the fantastic '90s Nickelodeon game show Legends of the Hidden Temple . He swears he's [...]

Aesop Rock BY JORDAN MAINZER Score one for the purists. Traditional hip hop triumphed at Metro Chicago on March 4 as MCs Aesop Rock and Rob Sonic spat in front of a real live DJ. Sure, there was a Mac laptop on stage. It’s basically unavoidable today. But DJ Big Wiz mostly scratched his turntable records as Aesop performed songs from his now expansive career, including highlights from last year’s Skelethon LP. Despite the conspicuous absence of quintessential Aesop Rock almost-hit “ Daylight ”, the show was what all [...]

![Busdriver & Loden – Beaus$Eros Instrumentals [Album]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4809274_lg.jpg)
Last year, Busdriver teamed up with Brussels producer Loden for the incredibly rad, albeit slept-on, Beaus$Eros . It feels like too many heads are quick to dismiss the L.A. rapper's approach as eccentricity for, well, eccentricity's sake. His bars hit you at such a whirlwind that it's difficult to digest much of anything after one listen, never mind several. The same goes for Loden's beats that drift between blunted hip-hop and infectious synth-pop. It's a bit of a trip to hear them in a new setting—aka without Busdriver's vocals—but they still work incredibly well. [...]

Busdriver is too often overlooked when people reference the LA underground rap and beat scenes of the last decade. He and Daedelus set things off around 2002, the former interpreting the helicopter chop style of Freestyle Fellowship and CVE with his own warped mind full of "undigested idioms." While his frequent collaborator Deadelus liberated beats from the constraints of genre, removing all orthodoxy that surrounded hip-hop instrumentalism, merging it with IDM, musique concrete, and house. At heart, they're both experimental artists - the type where you might not love everything they release, but you need to listen to see how [...]

Last year Modeselektor teamed up with Busdriver for the track 'Pretentious Driver' from their Monkeytown album, a thumping hip-hop banger with plenty of kick. Well, it appears I wasn't the only person impressed by by Busdriver's unique, disorienting flow and disregard for conventional structure; apparently Lapalux was a bit of fan too. His latest track, 'Forlorn', sees Busdriver's mind-shattering ability to switch between Busta Rhymes-esque patter and low-end croon juxtaposed against an ultimately soothing collection of synth washes and pitched up vocal clips. Having said that, elements of footwork rear [...]

Lapalux's debut album comes out next month on Brainfeeder, but that isn't going to stop the Essex-based producer from releasing excellent free jam after excellent free jam. The latest comes in the form of "Forlorn", a Busdriver assisted rappity rap track that sees the Los Angeles-based MC go double-time over some fittingly astral production. Stream "Forlorn" below and grab it from Lapalux's Bandcamp for free.99.
Lapalux - Forlorn (ft. Busdriver) Enjoy this free download while we patiently wait for the debut of his Nostalchic album on Brainfeeder (March 2013).

Sometimes, the best collaborations are the ones you didn't see coming, though, to be fair, this one was probably obvious to anyone keeping up with Busdriver's Facebook page. He likes to share his favorite sounds of the moment on there and in early January, he linked out to Lapalux's nutty Gucci Mane remix. I should have known it was only a matter of time before the two crossed paths on a cut like "Forlorn". It won't appear on Lapalux's upcoming Nostalchic album, which drops March 25, but that doesn't mean it's some lackluster throwaway. Far from it, [...]
To promote his forthcoming full-length debut on Brainfeeder—called Nostalchic and out March 25th—Lapalux, that British master of tape warble and densely popping percussion, teamed with an unlikely collaborator, LA's inimitable left-field rapper Busdriver, for their ... read more
