I haven't done one of these in a while, but here are a few new hip hop tracks I've been digging lately. Just a tremendous track. Big Boi makes Outkast relevant once again, if Pitchfork's lists didn't already. Big Boi- Shine Blockas feat. Gucci Mane The newest Fool's Gold signee, this dude is a less guilty T-Pain. This [...]

Busdriver "Least Favorite Rapper" Anti-Pop Consortium Remix LA's Busdriver is one of the more hated MCs in the game, with his quirky spitting style and harsh words for other rappers' excesses and blandness. With battle star Nocando, "Least Favorite Rapper" finds Busdriver tackling these issues head on, tossing off insults to Lil' Wayne, New Boyz, and a load of other 'fashionable' hip-hop artists and trends. It makes sense, then, that recently reunited experimental hip-hop troupe Anti-Pop Consortium have remixed the track, crafting a more electronic, synth-driven sound in place of the dusty [...]
Themselves , aka the hip-hop duo of rapper Doseone and producer Jel, have announced a fall tour in support of their upcoming third album, CrownsDown . The endeavor will kick off in mid-November in Austin and runs a month before the boys cap things off with two nights in Salt Lake City, UT. Co-headlining with them for most of the dates is rap duo Eyedea & Abilities . Declaring their return after a six year hiatus with theFREEhoudini mixtape, the team of rapper Doseone and producer Jel have moved quickly on their third album [...]
Whenever I think that I should just give up on Obama making real change, something like this happens. Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize this morning. Maybe America will finally notice the multiple genocides around the world. Maybe Obama will realize that send troops into bomb infrastructure in third world countries, as is what has happened with so many presidents before, is not a way to spread democracy. We have a long way to go and he has acknowledged. Let's hope he's more than just a good speaker. Busdriver - Will He (Inaugural Tribute)

Tonight I'll be at Fever Ray with Vuk at The Grand Ballroom At the Regency Center, Motorhead , Reverend Horton Heat and Nashville Pussy rocking the fuck out at The Warfield, and the great Billy Bragg at The Great American Music Hall. It's fucking September already! That means in a few months we'll be forced into buying holiday gifts that we can't afford, just so that other people can in turn buy us shit that they can't really swing either. In my experience, the only great thing about approaching one more year of misery is reminiscing on the hip-hop that recently was. The problem with that, however, is the sheer impossibility of catching everything (so be sure to holler about my glaring omissions in the comments). For your use and mine - since I'm already beginning to calculate [...]

Busdriver is hitting the road [...]

Three new songs for yous there to enjoy. Arctic Monkeys - Pretty Visions A new Arctic Monkeys song If you haven't heard it. Part of a bunch that leaked recently. Compare this to "Bigger Boys & Stolen Sweethearts" , one of their oldest and best songs, You can see the progression that they've made, whether this album as a whole is a step in the right direction is yet to be seen, but I think it looks promising. This next song has just [...]

Photography by Tsuru Original Print available at the TSURUFOTO Etsy Shop With a flux of new music comes the potential of a new mixtape . All it takes for me is a song or two to stick like a dirty leech to my brain, then suddenly, I start searching out other songs floating around the iPod or iNternet or whatever, songs that hone in around those first few stand out songs. Usually, I'll end up with too many songs, in a [...]
The events which transpired on Saturday were incredibly important to our development as a FMLY. All involved pushed to the limit and certainly over the edge, those who attended were fantastic and respectful guests, and the sounds that were shared thread so deeply into our understanding of community rhythm it is RIDIC! Endless thank yous go out to RipLee, 'REALLY, very', Philip Seymour Hoffman, Best Coast, Haim, [Post-foetus], DJDT, Pizza!, Evan Voytas, Busdriver, Voxtrot, and RJD2 - without your contributions towards our shared experiences the energy created Saturday could not have been accomplished. [...]
The pink-polo shirted Regan Farquhar commanded the stage, spouting rhymes I didn't even try to keep up with while his heroic sidekick, Anti MC, calmly manipulated a swath of drum pads and synth sounds, an electric guitar and pedals without breaking a sweat. I was having a hard time keeping my cool 'cause a pair of teenage lesbians were getting' freaky right in front of the stage, grabbing each others' crotches and grind dancing. Oh, how happy I am to see the '90s coming back!
