At first listen Aggi Doom from Scotland reminded me of the B-522s but it was killing me for days that they really remind me of the Bush Tetras with their minimal jungle sound. Regardless their sound is raw and the type of stuff you'll want to keep playing over and over again. Comprised of Joan Sweeney (ex- Remember Remember, The Royal We) and Hillary Van Scoy (ex Divorce). Think Evens mashed with Throwing Muses or heck download the song here and buy the 73 from Soft Power Records and be the cool kid on the block [...]
It was with sad relief that the friends and family received the news of the passing of Laura Kennedy early this week. At 54, the mother, sister, animal lover, friend to many, and all-around mus

Laura Kennedy, RIP . Laura wasn't the only bass player to ever play as part of the Bush Tetras, but she was the one who counted. It was her sly and subtle funk lines that graced the two most well known tunes that the NYC based post punk band wrote and recorded: "Too Many Creeps" and "Can't Be Funky." No collection of post punk would be complete without these recordings. With a HUGE outpouring of condolences today on Facebook, it was obvious how many people's lives she had touched. [...]

Bush Tetras Laura Kennedy, the original bassist and co-founder of seminal no wave band Bush Tetras who has spent the past 12 years living in Minneapolis, passed away on Monday afternoon. Kennedy was diagnosed nearly two decades ago with Hepatitis C, a "scourge of an illness" she once wrote she believed she contracted in the '80s while living and playing in New York. Born in Cleveland, she moved to NYC in the late '70s and eventually made her way to the Twin Cities 12 [...]

"All around the world, I've been looking for new..." ...and some old, as the case may be... - Looks like much of the old gang of nightlife habitues from the early 1980s NYC scene around the Mudd Club, New Wave Vaudeville at Irving Plaza, and Club 57 on St. Mark's Place are gathering at the end of the month for a reunion concert . Do you remember these names? Comateens, Bush Tetras, Marilyn, Animal X, Richard Lloyd, Ann Magnuson, John Kelly, 3 Teens Kill 4, Phoebe Legere, [...]
![[Documentaries] Blank City (2011) [New York City 1976-1986]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3389852_lg.jpg)
Beginning in the mid-to-late 19702s through the mid 19802s in New York City , an art & cultural movement exploded on the Lower East Side in the wake of the city's, and the country's, socio-economic turmoil. Spawning a myriad of new musical styles, bands, visual artists, nightclubs and cutting-edge filmmakers, the volatility and desperation gave us works which recorded and clearly marked the period before gentrification, Reaganomics and MTV began to commoditize the scene. In French director Céline Danhier's exceptional documentary film, BLANK CITY , she takes us on an in-depth exploration of the rise & fall [...]

Bush Tetras In June 1981, The Kitchen threw itself a behemoth tenth birthday party-cum-fundraiser at a Times Square megaclub. Dubbed Aluminum Nights, the marathon event saw a capacity audience of many hundreds -- including, all seem to recall, Mick Jagger backstage -- enjoy a diversified array of the downtown sounds being nurtured at the crossroads of The Kitchen's music program. In 2011, as part of its 40th anniversary season, The Kitchen presents a distilled refraction of the Aluminum Music performed over that memorable weekend. As mentioned in " What's Going on Friday ," [...]

This is one hatchet you don't want to bury. In fact, you should dig it up and start spinning it right now. And if you don't have one to spin, you can grab this Austin duo's double A-side over at Sixteen Tambourines . This sounds like something you might find in an old box of records hangin' out in the back of a thrift store...ooooh oooo aaaah. [MP3] Hatchet Wound Baby To Bed Dig [...]
Music for Lunar Eclipses There is a total lunar eclipse tonight or early Tuesday around 1am - 3am which will be the first time one has fallen on a winter solstice . So here's some music to play while you check it out. No wolf music to speak of or at least non that come to mind or zombies for that matter. Here are some great songs by some 802s icons and a live Stones cover by Wayne Coyne and the boys. Moonlite MP3 by the Bush Tetras [...]
Think late 1970's NY art kids making guitars relevant after punk.

Bush Tetras and Lizzy Mercier Descloux were both part of the burgeoning early 80's New York No Wave/Punk-Funk scene. As the No Wave scene kind of imploded on itself, more and more bands were emerging from the wreck with the same style and sensibilities, but making the sort of shit you could dance to. They resisted the pull of disco at the time, and held strong to minimalist punk beats. 'Too Many Creeps', Melbournians may notice, was the inspiration for the night of the same name last year.
