Katie Herzig and Butterfly Boucher rocked out at Johnny Brenda's Wednesday night, in celebration of Herzig's latest release, The Waking Sleep , and prematurely celebrating Butterfly's upcoming album, due out some time in March of next year. The two gals even played together a bit- Herzig hopped on stage on vocals and keys for Butterfly's last number, who in tern played bass in Herzig's band. The sound of the 6-piece band nearly floored me- the bass prominently vibrating in my chest as they started playing the first tune of the evening- "Shovel", which had a bit of [...]
We've been fans of Aussie-to-Nashville transplant Miss Butterfly Boucher for a some years now, dating back to when we first laid dumbstruck eyes on the video for "Another White Dash" (sadly now M.I.A.) from her 2003 debut Flutterby . When she's not playing bass (and opening) for Sarah McLachlan, producing the upcoming Missy Higgins album or performing her own songs with the traveling Ten Out of Tenn songwriting troupe, Boucher has found a few minutes to record some new tracks since the release of her fine, oft-delayed Scary Fragile [...]

If you've been paying attention, I hope I've made it clear that anyone claiming the existence of a " one true meaning of Christmas " is not supported by historical facts. If you like to celebrate Christmas as being primarily (or entirely) as celebration of the birth of Jesus, then good for you. Bookending Christmas & Easter as the foundation of Christianity – the birth and death of God's only begotten Son, the sacrifice for Mankind – is certainly sound theologically. But December 25? Sorry, that date has a very complex history. It belongs [...]

Butterfly Boucher is an Australian singer/songwriter. Boucher, born June 2, 1979, is the middle child of seven daughters. The name "Butterfly" was a suggestion from a friend of the family. In later years, Butterfly's sister Becca Boucher had a band, The Mercy Bell, in which Butterfly played bass guitar. Her debut album, Flutterby, was released in 2003. Boucher toured the United States and Europe, opening for Barenaked Ladies, and later for Sarah McLachlan on her Afterglow arena tour. Boucher released her first single of the album, "I Can't Make Me," in the UK first and later [...]

Australian powerhouse Butterfly Boucher is no mamby-pamby singer/songwriter. Butterfly's her actual given name. And though she's small and quite attractive, she rocks an authentic badass vibe like a tigress. Lovely, versatile, down-to-earth company, Butterfly's the gal I'd take with me on a cross-country motorcycle/backpacking adventure dotted by visits to grungy roadhouses as well as intimate, erudite art openings. In the studio with us, Butterfly finished her live set with a striking acoustic version of past favorite, Another White Dash , after a handful of poignant, vulnerably strong, Beatle's influenced songs from her newest album, [...]

Butterfly Boucher Butterfly Boucher, whose given name is indeed Butterfly, was born into a large family (she has six sisters) and gravitated quickly to creating music. Her professional career in music officially began in the mid-90's when Boucher joined sister Becca and her band, The Mercy Bell (formerly known as Eat The Menu ), as their bassist and vocalist. Together, the group released their LP, Bite in 1995. Their follow-up, Whoosh , followed in 1996 and was re-released in 1997 when the band decided to change their name. Trivia [...]

The show calendar overfloweth: The Dead Weather's gnarly blues-rock sounds exactly like what you'd expect, considering the players in the side project — Jack White (White Stripes), Alison Mosshart (the Kills), Jack Lawrence (the Raconteurs) and Dean Fertita. The Australian quartet, touring behind a new album, "Untitled #23," that is almost Floydian in its shimmer, hits the Roxy tonight along with Adam Franklin & Bolts of Melody . ... [In L.A. this week, we're having a spate of June Gloom. That's Californese for "clouds." Here are a couple of singer-songwriterly things that may lighten the mood, that is ...] The secret link between KCRW and Perez Hilton? Butterfly Boucher , who, according to her people, is endorsed by both the tastemaking radio station and the whatever-he-does Web wag. The Australia-reared, Nashville-based songwriter's name really is Butterfly, and the major-label refugee last week released her sophomore album, "Scary Fragile," which was produced by big-time guy [...]

[Happy birthday to Jimmy Chamberlin, wherever he's drumming ...] Toronto's Constantines [pictured], now in their 10th year (yes, it's true), hit town for a show at the Echo with a couple of lively supporting acts — Long Beach's Crystal Antlers , with whom you are probably familiar, and Norwegian psych-poppers I Was a King , with whom you probably aren't. Here's a Teenage Fanclub-ish taste from their self-titled debut — download "Norman Bleik." ... Speaking of kings, promising new four-piece Chasing Kings [...]

Butterfly Boucher 's ( pronounced like "voucher") fans are nothing if not loyal, especially considering it's been nearly 4 years by the crowd's estimate that she's been in Philly. It was amazing to see a decent sized turn out of fans singing along to an act most people probably aren't too familiar with. But then again, this is a woman who's worked side by side with none other than the great David Bowie . She's bound to have a niche group of die hard fans. [...]

[Welcome to June. We'll celebrate by kicking off some new residencies — and by wishing the Broken West's Ross Flournoy a happy birthday ...] Oliver Future takes another big step in its morphosis by launching a residency at the Echo, and the first night will offer Useless Keys as main support. ... At Spaceland, Castledoor — its debut album "Shouting at Mountains" barely a month old — flexes its pop muscles, with help from the Monolators [Eli [...]

Butterfly Boucher is back, wings unbound and flying fancy in LA with a new album, Scary Fragile , produced by David Kahne (Paul McCartney, Regina spektor), due out June 2nd, 2009. She'll be playing bunches around LA all month, at Spaceland Monday, June 1st and at Hotel Cafe every Wednesday in June. Butterfly's story is interesting. Musical from a young age, she was raised on the road in the Australian Outback among six other sisters and free-spirited parents. Along the way, she became multi-instrumental. By 16, she was signed to a major, and, after a long [...]
It's been a frustrating few years for Aussie-to-Nashville singer/songwriter Butterfly Boucher , but with some of the usual "major label issues" now out of the way, her long-overdue second album Scary Fragile is now set for a June 2 release. Boucher (pronounced Bow-cher) found some success with the release of her 2003 debut album Flutterby , but her inventive music fell outside of rigid categories, a challenging situation for single minded radio programmers and label marketing execs. Tougher edged and more independent than [...]
