Last year around this time, there was much excitement on this side of the water about Cage The Elephant (who incidentally are back at SxSW this year). This year there appears to be similar anticipation over here about Titus Andronicus who produce music in a broadly similar kind of vein. Their debut album, The Airing of Grievances came out last year and if you like your rock 'n' roll, loud, brash,

At this very moment we are within 24 hours of an initial Bonnaroo lineup announcement. My fingers are still crossed that rumors of a Springsteen appearance will be confirmed and that something very ... Continue reading "Cage the Elephant to Play Coachella" >

Today's Coachella band of the dayis Cage The Elephant, another act I had not even heard of until the lineup was announced. Cage the Elephant originated in Bowling Green, KY and play a blistering style of all-out rock. I checked out their self-titled debut earlier this weekend and I liked what I heard. Going to make a concentrated effort to catch some of their set in Indio this year. * Cage The Elephant - 'In One Ear' MP3

Oh my! Coachella just redeemed itself. What a line-up. It's still way too fucking hot in Indio, but this may be worth it. What are the odds that Amy Winehouse will make the trip? A friend of mine from London has been raving about Cage The Elephant for months. He finally sent me a copy of their self-titled CD; it's worth the hype. The catch: the band is from Bowling Green, Kentucky. Brothers Matt (vocals) and Brad (guitar) Shultz, Jared Champion (drums). Daniel Tichenor (bass, vocals) and Lincoln Parish (lead guitar) moved from the bible belt to Leytonstone (East London). The move has paid off for the band; they're currently one of the hottest acts in the UK. These guys will break big in the US [...]
91. Funeral For A Friend 'Memory And Humanity' (Join Us) – Does anybody actually care anymore? 90. Mogwai 'The Hawk Is Howling' (Wall Of Sound) – Decent comeback record from Scotland's post-rock posse. 89. White Denim 'Workout Holiday' (Full Time Hobby) – Alright but it's a bit self-indulgent at times. 88. The Streets 'Everything Is Borrowed' (The Beats) – Not a bad record but Skinner's genius goes missing at points. 87. Cage The Elephant 'Cage The Elephant' (Relentless) – [...]

Gig Of The Week: Genghis Tron, Behold The Arctopus, Rolo Tomassi , The Network - The Underworld Prepare for supreme noise making at Underworld on Saturday as Americans Genghis Tron follow up their European stint with The Faint with a short UK tour. Backed by a multi-talented string of bands, not least Sheffield stars Rolo Tomassi (for the London show only), the potential of this night is stellar. This amazing line up is unbelievably not sold out - and under a tenner face value! Tickets: See [...]

Hilarious! The news that Sarah Palin was found to have "Abused her power as governor by trying to have her former brother-in-law fired" made my week. I can't wait to see what John Stewart makes of it ( Check out this brilliantly nerdy Sarah Palin flow chart ). That wasn't the only good news, I've also tracked down ten more tracks for your delectation (What a segue!): (MLD): Springsteen on musiclikedirt!! Bob Dylan the week before and The Stones previously! Good christ you're turning the blog into Mojo magazine! [...]

In which Autumn sets in, Landmarks are passed, and the Zendar is proved right. With the nights drawing in and the leaves turning brown, it's time to face one of life's harsh realities. Yes folks, only a madman would spend his weekend in a muddy field, bathing in cider and living off hotdogs in this weather, I'm afraid the festival season is over for another year. But wait, don't put that coat on just yet, leave your thermals in the drawer, stop shaving [...]

Making huge strides into the mainstream, hotly tipped Kentucky quartet Cage The Elephant return with the new single "In One Ear" on October 6th, 2008 on Relentless. "In One Ear" is taken from the band's debut album and follows the recent single "Ain't No Rest For The Wicked" . A stomping, swaggering blast of classic rock 'n' roll attitude that adds fresh impetus and pays homage to influences such as Jimi Hendrix, Kings of Leon, The White Stripes and Red Hot Chili Peppers, "In One Ear" demonstrates why Cage The Elephant [...]

"Money don't grow on trees." You'd hardly expect a group of Bowling Green party boys to hit it big across the pond, would you? But so they have. The five piece from the Kentucky college town, in fact, has hit it harder in the UK than they have here in the States. While in London, I don't recall a week that went by that I didn't hear some kind of buzzing about Cage the Elephant . Whether it was a headlining gig [...]

Bowling Green, Kentucky 5-piece, Cage The Elephant has been hustling over the last 12 months amassing an impressive following over on the other side of the Atlantic. Their uncompromising, sweat-fueled live shows highlight a collection of blistering tracks which draw in the listener in anticipation of the where the antics of frontman, Matt Shultz will take them. Make no mistake; these deft southern rockers may be the latest in a spray of acts to emerge having been raised against a strictly religious, small-town backdrop however, having long abandoned their youthful imprudence, Cage The Elephant defy lazy pigeon-holing. Cutting [...]

Ahhh just listen to this! This is a true example of music that kicks ass. Not much more than that, but that's more than enough. They're a band originally from America but they moved to England to try their luck. And thusfar they succeed pretty well. You can easily hear they're from the USA; bluesy, manic, punky (though not as much as on stage) and, most of all, just pure rockish. It's so much fun to listen to because it springs with swagger and makes your head go exactly the way it goes when you listen to the early [...]
