The big release for me this week has to be Art Brut's new album "Art Brut vs. Satan", though there doesn't appear to be a stream of that anywhere. Anyway, enjoy streams of officially announced Lollapalooza headliners Depeche Mode as well as Camera Obscura. Additionally Manchester Orchestra and Cage the Elephant are also on the newly announced Lollapalooza lineup (as is Jane's Addiction). Also, as an added bonus, NPR is streaming the upcoming St. Vincent album "Actor" in its entirety right now so go check that out as well. [...]
I guess this is swing revival revival week. New stuff from Big Bad Voodoo Daddy , The Devil Makes Three and The Boxmasters . It's been about ten years, and since we reminisce a lot quicker these days what with digital cameras and such, recycled trends are bound to come full circle a lot quicker like this. Otherwise, check out the new Manchester Orchestra , As Cities Burn , a rerelease of Cage the Elephant 's self-titled, King Khan and the Shrines and Art Brut . [...]

Well the lineup for Lollapalooza has now officially dropped a few days early for 2009, and just as the rumors had suggested the lineup is extremely heavy in the middle. Much has been made about the relative weakness of the headliners compared to last years 'headliner-palooza', but really once you factor in all of the bands that are listed there below the headliners this is actually shaping up to be a pretty incredible festival. They pretty much have a who's who of the up and comin indie set with pretty much every indie band that has made any [...]

Fast paced? Check. Crowd-surfing lead singer? Check. Lead guitarist standing on kick drum facing the drummer in classic guitar pose? Check. In short, Cage the Elephant brought all the requisites for a good show, especially as this was the best (read: only) stop on the tour. Lead singer Matt Schultz greeted us early with several, "nice to meet you"s and brought enormous energy to the stage, never standing still while belting out his lyrics. Unfortunately the vocals were a little hard to understand at times due to ambient noise, except on those few tracks with the best known, [...]
We really try not to gravitate to the obvious when describing a new band to someone. Like remember when Interpol/Editors/WhiteLies came out and everyone said they sounded like Joy Division? Whether that's true or not (and it is but that doesn't mean it's bad thing) is not the point. The point is that it's a lazy way to describe a band. Honestly, the last thing we want to do because is take the easiest way out to describe a band and their art, which they have no doubt sweat & bled over just to present it to us the music- [...]

This weekend I had the privilege to venture into the great state of unassuming expanse that is Oklahoma, all the way up to Norman to be more specific. In the course of many hours spent in driving through the Arbuckle Mountains and speaking with several Okies/Sooners I learned many things on this grand adventure. Firstly I learned that Chef Paul Prudhomme and fellow Kangol-sporting celebrity Dom DeLuise were, in fact, two separate and distinct humans. I guess deep down it's possible that on some level I may have [...]

Frank Yang I'm all for the egalitarian spirit of alternating closing slots when it comes to co-headline tours, but even as someone who's a fan of Ladytron and who hadn't heard a note from The Faint before Monday's show at the Phoenix, I'd have to say that the evening would have been better served if the Nebraskans had been last up. Which isn't a slight on the Liverpool outfit in the least - as their appearance at Harbourfront last July proved, they can put on a terrific show even without [...]

[Utter exhaustion vs. Saturday night at SXSW: Which will prevail?] Telekinesis (at the Parish) — Merge Records newbies Telekinesis seem to abide every diagram in the indie rock manual — its pop practices the loud/soft dynamic, a reverence for melody and a reliance on caffeinated percussion for propulsion. And as un-revolutionary as that is, the music created by one-man tornado Michael Lerner (who tours as part of a quartet) is not unremarkable. It's optimistic and sharply observational, and, live, it's [...]
Yes, I know it's old, but one of those bands that have slowly seeped into my conciousness, Cage The Elephant do have some *amazing* tunes on their album . It's got their trademark cheekiness and great tune, so check it out below. Click here to view the embedded video.

Can I afford it? Yes. Do I have means to travel there? Yes. Are there ample amounts of acts this year? Absolutely. So why am I not going to Coachella ? I mean, I just moved out here to California. Shouldn't I take advantage of one of the most anticipated concert events of the year? Yeah I guess. So why have I decided not to go this year? Because I just don't care enough. Simple as that. Paul McCartney, The Killers , and [...]
