( email | facebook | twitter ) The House has roused once again, this time with a spoken word submission in the Classwar Karaoke compilation #15, Survey . The song is named "Stones" and it partially abandons creator Dave Keifer's reckless-in-degrees ethic for a minimal, glacially-evolving score to Wolfsuele's well-humored, post-ironic delivery. This is the second such collaboration between the two. The first, "Drift Bacteria," received high marks here . Survey also features work by Chris Lynn and Ayato, among many others. Download it [...]

( email | facebook | twitter ) It's fascinating to watch artists develop, and few artists - if any - are quite like Dave Keifer. Justin Bieber he is not: a documentary for every album, a video for every track, a big-name collaboration for every chorus. The Cagey House course adjusts every few months or so, with short, clever EPs, clocking in at 20 to 30 minutes in length. This way there are no rose periods, blue periods, cubist periods (scratch that last [...]

Cagey House // "Ron Pajama Ranger" One genre that I have never covered here on Cactus-Mouth is jazz. But all of that is about to change when I introduce you to Cagey House's new track "Ron Pajama Ranger". Now this isn't a straight up jazz track. It's more like jazz meets pop meets a circus meets… film noir. There is alot going on here, and the whole track floats along on a wisp of cigarette smoke. It's a quirky instrumental track that has a certain cinematic feel to it. Picturing this track in the [...]

( email | facebook ) Dave Keifer of Cagey House has released a new EP, Calico Pastry Sunshine . We've listened to scores (OK, one score ) of his albums. We've examined the project's inner workings . We've even asked for ... ringtones? And he's accepted ? So when we say that every first listen to every new release is just as foreign a matter for us as it is for you, [...]
( email | facebook | linkedin ) Dave Keifer of Cagey House writes in with his top tracks of the year. (You still have time to register to win a free, customized Cagey House ringtone , we should add.) Also file this one under "top 15 heard in 2010." 10. "Sligo River Blues," by John Fahey . There's a phantom French horn in this exquisite, almost childishly simple track. 9. "Any Old Iron," by Harry Champion . My [...]

What does he mean by [...]

Cagey House have just released a new EP called Model City on Canadian net-label Nishi . It's their third release on Nisih and we think it's the best one yet. A noir vibe with lots of deep reverb and fuzzy tones, strange, colorful noise and clangy percussion. All the tracks are free to download or stream here http://www.archive.org/details /nsh117 and here's a taster: Cagey House - "Alarm Decisions"

Here's a quick selection of new stuff from some of our favourite netlabels : Nishi : Cagey House's Dave Keifer is back once again with his trademark synths. Exotic and atonal melodies & shifting beats and sometimes downright spooky melodies! Who'd want to be inside that " Law Office ", I know I don't.! Rich.vom.Dorf. is of the oldschool IDM & Melodic Electronica tradition, while Canadian Holzkopf has the greatest songtitles like " Katrina Make Us [...]

My inbox is taking on the form of an infinite repository for partially-useful information. Here is some of the best of that which doesn't pertain to pharmaceuticals, overly generous ladies and relations of deposed figures of African authority. Labels, publishers, promoters, distributors, artists, thank you; I will have more on some of these once it is all properly digested. Listen: Zookeeper – Snow in Berlin Copperpot – [...]

Yes, Nishi has reached its 100th release. To celebrate, they asked some past, present and future artists to submit tracks for a compilation album. The result is almost 3 hours of music spanning dozens of genres, styles, moods an not to mention several continents. Between the sublime washes from Pocka and Ambient Field, the dark glitch-pop of Samarah and John Tennant, and the relentless pounding of Elektro Punc and Sascha Müller, and everything in between, there really should be something for any electronic lover here. Selected Tracks: Fond Memories Come [...]

I'm spending this week working my way through all the emails from bands I've received over the past few weeks that I haven't had the opportunity to pay much attention to. The first to get some attention is Cagey House . They describe their music as " psychedelic-pseudo-post-synth -rock-exotica." I'd say that's pretty accurate. They're newest release, Octopus Two , is a lot of fun and sounds a little like great video game background music. I have to say it's fitting the sci-fi geek mode I'm [...]
