Today's lunch time Double Dip is brought to you by Yuck , Yuck is the bastard child of Max Bloom and Daniel Blumbergs earlier seemingly successful joint venture Cajun Dance Party . The two remaining members of the new band are Mariko Doi and Jonny Rogoff and this four piece hailing from London, England holds remnants of 902s lo-fi UK rockables The Cure in beauty fashion with their high energy and fuzzed [...]
Over this past year, Yuck have emerged as one of the best and brightest new bands around, not to mention one of the most mercurial and unpredictable. Far from following any set patterns, they have instead forged their own path and cultivated a fervently devoted fanbase in the process. Just finishing their tour in the US, sampling the new self titled album that deliciously marks their maverick streak, frontman Max Bloom chats to us about the new album and their tips for 2011. [...]
Yuck were born out of the ashes of Cajun Dance Party who, while quite popular and quite competent in their chosen genre, were pretty "of their time." They were one of a hundred English indie bands that proliferated around 2007/2008 and disappeared shortly after. The one thing they did have on their sides however, was that they were young. Really young. Much was made of the fact that they made their first album while studying for their A levels. Two of the core members of Cajun Dance Party left to form Yuck , recruiting American [...]

The lo-fi love affair that is 'Get Away' is Yuck's latest offering to the music masses. Out in April this track is a nostalgic nod towards the late 80s post-hardcore movements, all understated riffs and fuzzy melodies. Whilst not revolutionary, Yuck's sound is comforting in a downbeat sort of way. They've sure come a long way since their Cajun Dance Party days and we like it.
Words: Saam Das Oupa used to be called Yu(c)k , the side project of Yuck frontman Daniel Blumberg , formerly of Cajun Dance Party . I assume you got all of that. Blumberg's changed the name of his solo project and has also seemingly changed a lot since I saw him gallivanting around like a mad hatter during our collective secondary school days. Oupa delivers hauntingly melancholic ballads with a [...]
You are face to face with a fresh promising indie quintet originating from London . After their previous group Cajun Dance Party , Bloom and Blumberg form Yuck , while experimenting with new sounds. New Jersey drummer Jonny meets with Blumberg at a kibbutz in the Israeli desert, and some months after he gives in quitting his college degree. Soon Doi from Japan responds the request for a female bassist, and with Blumberg's sister Ilana the band's self-titled debut album sheds light through Fat Possum on the 21th of February 2011 in the UK. Yuck [...]
scribed for This Is Fake DIY Oh, so now we know what happened to Cajun Dance Party . 'The Colourful Life' was a solid debut, one that displayed a young band with plenty of potential. They hadn't found their feet, sure, but at their age they wouldn't have been expected to have done that so soon. There was a plan to follow that one up with another album in the same year. This was 2008. My, doesn't that seem like ages ago? The planned second album never happened, and they quietly [...]
Tales of desert unions indebted to Daniel Johnston/Animal Collective memorabilia and 'freak scenes' aside, the once-seemingly scrapheap bones of Cajun Dance Party (remember, the Bombay Bicycle Club blueprint of sorts?) have been reassembled into a Dinosaur Jr.-shaped T-Rex of a record that blusters through 90s lo-fi gazing down at its shoes with its head in the watercolour clouds above. Pinpointed by the Beeb in their much lauded but ultimately redundant Sounds of Whichever Year We're Currently Situated In poll, and having conceived an eponymous debut that cajoles doubts with melancholic wafts of Weezer scruff and Sonic Youth gruff it ought [...]
I suppose there are two things that spring to mind when we first approach Yuck . The first being, of course, the BBC's Sound Of 2011 list, and the second is Cajun Dance Party. We all know it's never fair to tackle an album with any expectations, but we also all know that it's almost impossible not to, especially when hype is already circulating. The Sound of 2011 list has been a great cause of debate this year, and the way it seems to allocate hype to bands almost at random doesn't seem logical. [...]
It seems to me that most bands with terrible names tend to live up to them. Yuck , however, is the exception to the rule. They played on Saturday, opening for Smith Westerns - and blew the headliners out of the water. I'll do a Monday Set of Smith Westerns in a week or two, but let's just say that this night's performances were eerily reminiscent of the show at Spanish Moon this time last year in which Sarah Jaffe destroyed Midlake . Maybe it's a [...]
Four hundred and five years ago one Guido Fawkes (otherwise known as Guy Fawkes) was part of a plot to assassinate King James I and restore a Catholic monarch to the throne. The 17th century terrorists planned to place gunpowder under the House of Lords and destroy the English Parliament on November 5th 1605. Which, if successful might not have achieved their mission but would have certainly brightened up the night sky over London. The plot was uncovered before they had a chance to light the blue touch paper but ever since November 5th has been celebrated with fireworks, bonfires [...]
Me reviewing my photo during Human Eye set, photo taken by John Bodnar , 2009 Today is Gigawave's three-year anniversary, which also marks the day that Turbo Fruits return to the Replay Lounge this year. Therefore, one of the songs off Echo Kid starts out the mix. I originally made this mix as a birthday present to myself, but it's been a hectic week so I kept forgetting to post it until now. A mish-mash of my favorite songs, songs relating to summer or partying, and songs relating to, well, aging. [...]
Not much to update on: footy training was good, got a game this Saturday at Slacks Creek aka shitville (for all those people who live in Slacks Creek: I'm sorry*). I met the new, and very cute, EA at work. Kind of made up with Angela tonight after "The Boys Night" thing me and jesse did. 'Bout a quarter through Kingdom of Fear. And that's about it, so music time: Bodega Girls (like dancing, sweating, fucking then doing it all over) Cut Off Your Hands (like Sparkadia & a lot [...]

Cajun Dance Party New Band Yuck Finish UK Tour With Impressive Sold-Out Gig
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , UK Yuck cemented their growing reputation on the blogosphere as one of the bands to watch out for in 2011 with a sold-out gig at London's Lexington Wednesday, Oct 27. It was a hometown show for the capital-based band and the finale of its first ever headlining UK tour. The four-piece, which showcased tracks from its forthcoming as-yet-untitled debut album, including 'The Wall' and 'Suicide Policeman,' was started by Cajun Dance Party 's former singer Daniel Blumberg and [...]

Words: Martyn Young Despite Yuck making some of the most thrilling, exciting, loud and melodic pop music in the UK at the moment, the audience for the this hastily arranged gig at a small pub in Fife numbers approximately 30 people, evidently the charms of Yuck have yet to be discovered by the majority of people but no matter, they will be soon, this band are going places. A dispetto [...]

Maximo Park vs. Cajun Dance Party
I liked both of Maximo Park's previous albums so I was quite surprised to find their new one, Quicken The Heart , to be rather boring and unexciting. It isn't terribly bad but it just falls flat when compared to the band's vibrant and endearing earlier work. Mainly (I think) it's just that the songs aren't as catchy and immediately rewarding as those on A Certain Trigger and Our Earthly Pleasures . I just don't love anything on the new album. It's all really quite [...]
