Cale Parks is the shit. The shit. He is also the drummer and percussionist of the band Aloha . He also plays piano and vibraphone for the band and has (additionally) performed with Cex, Chin Up Chin Up, Joan of Arc, Love of Everything, Owen, and Pit Er Pat. If you've read this blog over the past few months, you'd probably know that the last Aloha album Some Echoes is a CYSTSFTS fave. I liked that record so much that I recently sought out the latest solo album from Mr. Cale Parks. [...]

MP3: Cale Parks - This Garden Is A Maze MP3: Cale Parks - Oh, Holy Night Polyvinyl released "Illuminated Manuscript" last year and it's a record I find myself enjoying more and more with each listen. It soars with fantastic drumming ( what else to except from one of the best drummers playing today? ) and great key parts. There are little vocals, but when he sings, Parks' has a voice that's both reserved and soothing. The lyrics, like the singing, are very [...]
Be glad I actually try to build an end of year list. Otherwise I would have missed this gem. Cale Parks is a drummer who works with a whole bunch of polyvinyl records bands, Aloha , Joan of Arc, Chin Up Chin Up, and Owen . His second album Illuminated Manuscript is a mix of postrock, ambient and a dash of bedroom electronica. The classically trained percussionist/drummer Cale Parks (who is a full time member of Aloha) has found the time to design (touring and using borrowed laptops) a solo album. 'Illuminated... sabas.jud.as-new indie music messiah

Brooklyn, NY Cale Parks is one of the masterminds behind the spectacular band Aloha . He's released a solo record through Polyvinyl , and it mostly showcases his talent as an instrumentalist and focuses very little on vocals. This is one of my favorites on Illuminated Manuscript . [...]

Cale Parks Illuminated Manuscript Polyvinyl Records Solo albums, or even side projects, are a dime a dozen these days, and here is yet another one. What sets this apart from the rest? It is the debut solo offering of Aloha drummer extraordinaire Cale Parks , and drummers just don’t tend to do solo albums. And, as much as I hate to say it, maybe this is a good example of why they don’t. If I had to choose one [...]
On his solo effortIlluminated Manuscript, Aloha-drummer Cale Parks takes the experimental blueprint for his band's work and morphs it into a collection of ambient (yet structured) songs, featuring nothing but keyboards, electronic drum sounds, and mallet instruments. Cale's live percussion...

Adem / Love And Other Planets ( Domino ) Adem is the musical alter-ego of Brit Adem Ilhan (no surnames, please, we're artists). His second album was performed almost entirely by himself (save some backing vocals, violin and drums) and recorded at home, and it sounds it - it's warm and cozy and laid back with a cup of tea on the side table. Fundamentally a folk record but dressed up in contemporary production values, it's a wonderfully laid-back contemplation of love, [...]

Here we are beginning this first week of fall with the end of this month's ridiculous amount of album releases. Honestly I didnt think I was going to get this week's Daily Graboid up at all considering my computer issues. But, I found a small solution with an older pc even though it's not really convienent considering having the mp3s on this harddrive pushed it to it's limits of space. I really wanted to get this one up to finish off the month, so here it is even though it's a few days late. Like [...]

Sometimes I go download crazy and end up with unknown music on my iPod. This addiction provides for funny what-the...!? moments on the bus. These moments leave me wiggling with excitment in my seat as I dig through my bag because I must know the title of the song asap. My latest what-the...!? moment was on Friday. "Wet Paint?" Where did this track come from? I have no idea, but I know that I like it. [...]

Aloha drummer Cale Parks has a solo album coming out in September, and I highly recommend it. Xylophone, twinkles, beats and gentle crooning make Illuminated Manuscript a seriously strong record. Cale Parks: Wet Paint If you're in the mood for thumping, sexy and hand-clapping goodness, check out The Blow's "Pile of Gold" (via K Records ). MP3: CALE PARKS "Wet Paint" ( Polyvinyl ) Aloha band member Cale Parks, who helped give us Some Echoes (one of my most enjoyable listens so far this year), releases his solo CD Illuminated Manuscript stateside on Sept. 26. This ambient electronic song, which is like a hot air ballon ride through a cumulous cloud, appears on the disc. tags: music | mp3 | indie rock | [...]
Due out September 26th, Cale Park's surprisingly addictive debut album Illuminated Manuscript is the record I've been waiting to hear for a long time. It's both ambient and chaotic, peaceful and exciting; a vibrant mash up between organic and electronic sounds. 'Wet Paint', also featured on Polyvinyl Record's upcoming label sampler What To Do With Everything , is one of the more vocal heavy tracks on the record. It lands somewhere between M83's dark ambient tones and Broken Social Scene's indie rock instrumentalism and vocals. The [...]

While Aloha has probably released the climax of its career with Some Echoes , drummer Cale Parks has taken his spare time (there can't be much, he plays with EVERYONE) and constructed his debut solo album. While his list of influences is a menagerie of Krautrock, post-rock, ambient, electronic, and early prog-rock, Parks' Illuminated Manuscript will probably (and hopefully!) counter its more out-there tendencies with something that won't entirely marginalize those who can't dig experimentalism. Either way, at least from what I've gathered, the album is something that Aloha fans won't [...]
