Calico Horse is a band from San Diego that creates hauntingly cheerful music. I know that doesn't seem like it should make much sense, but give them a listen and it will. In addition to releasing a new CD, Mirror , they also found time to cover Radiohead's "Idioteque." I'll leave you with "Father Feed Me" from the new CD and the previously mentioned cover. mp3: Father Feed Me mp3: Idioteque (Radiohead Cover)
Radiohead, my favorite active band, is coming to St. Louis in just a few days. I've been scanning the set lists from every night of their tour hoping find my favorite songs included in the hefty list of two dozen that Radiohead has been averaging every night. "Idioteque" has been cropping up frequently, and Radiohead played "Paranoid Android" as part of their second encore a few nights ago in Charlotte. In recognition of the presumably mind-blowing concert I'm about to witness I'm posting a few live Radiohead tracks for you to enjoy. Radiohead- True Love Waits [...]

As we gear up for a super busy Saturday, we wanted to make a point to share these especially excellent Top Five Songs of the Week* Hope everyone has a lovely day :) 5. (mp3) Pinback - Good To Sea We didn't discover this song until recently when Kelly did (thanks to Tegan & Sara's [ music playlist ] in last Sunday's New York Times), which is such a catchy slice of guitar pop that will keep you coming back for more. Much to our surprise, this [...]

Shearwater - "Leviathan, Bound" . The new record by Shearwater, Rook , is one of the best albums of the year. It takes their last LP's great leap forward and adds patience, confidence, daring. They are a band who recall Mark Hollis/late Talk Talk, Final Fantasy, Silver Mt. Zion and Radiohead's Amnesiac . Since Rook arrived in the mail a week ago, I've scarcely listened to anything else. "Leviathan, Bound" is a song with dulcimer instead of drums, glockenspiel instead of rainfall, strings instead of thunder. It's beautiful and terrifying. Like when the waters begin to [...]
San Diego's "overcaffeinated, cheerleaderish spectacle" (credit: SPIN) Calico Horse [ Official Site , MySpace ] was born out of the ashes of the now retired band The Clock Work Army . Calico Horse may be a new line-up, but one thing this group hasn't lost is their ability to write a great song - the band is still fronted by Clock Work's singer and co-songwriter, Emily Neveu. Their upcoming release, Mirror , will be out June 24th and was produced by Pall Jenkins of Blackheart Procession . Here's a sample of [...]

Every wondered what the words to Radiohead's Idioteque ( Kid A , 2000) were, but we just too damn lazy to look them up on this crazy newfangled interwebby thingy? Not me, I spend way too much time in front of this brainwash box, so I think I did that not long after the album came out. You may not be a total nerd like me though. If so, welcome my brothers and sisters. If not, good job, way to have a life. Anyway, it's not that you can't [...]
Here's something to help pull you out of your Monday bunker - Calico Horse has done a lovely cover of Radiohead's "Idioteque." (Backed by only an acoustic guitar and a tambourine, lead singer Emily Neveu will make you wonder if an approaching ice age has ever sounded quite so delicate.) ...
Calico Horse's simple and striped-down take on "Idioteque" undeniably stands out among the dozen of bad Radiohead covers out there! Calico Horse: Idioteque (Radiohead Cover) [wicked-cool song] ***all files expire in 7 days or until bandwidth reaches its limit
In effort to raise awareness about upcoming releases as well as finding a place for the numerous submissions we get, this post continues our weekly purging of free and legal MP3's for your listening enjoyment. The number of tracks will fluctuate each week depending on the songs uncovered or sent. It's our hope that you'll find a new favorite or another release to keep your eyes on. Calico Horse - Onomatopoeia Calico Horse - Awake In The Clouds

EVP happily gave you "Father Feed Me" a few weeks ago from Calico Horse's forthcoming Mirror . Now we have an acoustic cover of Radiohead's "Idioteque". You're surely swimming in Radiohead covers at the moment but rarely does a group maintain the eerie pall behind Thom Yorke's lyrics as Calico Horse has done with its bare bones guitar and tamborine-delivered version. Calico Horse - "Idioteque" If you'd like to hear EVP's acousticl version of "Idioteque," you'll just have to track us down and pump us full of beer. [...]

Calico Horse - Idioteque A curious yet intriguing Radiohead cover. Visit the San Diego based act on MySpace. MP3: Calico Horse - Idioteque

Calico Horse - Father Feed Me I like this song, because it sounds kinda like a flock of birds falling down a flight of stairs. It's got some beautifully haughty piano structures that just don't care for standard rhythms, and oddly sweet vocals that lead in a chorus that is sensible enough to be good and real without being epic. It sounds a bit like I was hoping the new Wolf Parade album would sound. Emily Neveu - Idioteque (Radiohead) I like this because it's such a fine reworking [...]
The Calico Horse used to be Clock Work Army , whom we said very nice things about a few years ago . Loved singer Emily Neveu then, and love her now. Father Feed Me (mp3) , a carnivalesque rock tune, is tagged as a Clock Work Army song, but it's not really, and it doesn't matter, anyway. It's a damn good song, with a warped oom-pah-pah piano intro and dark guitar fuzz, and real pretty piano flourishes at the end. I'll be looking for their debut, Mirror [...]

Calico Horse Genre: Indie / Experimental / Psychedelic From: San Diego, California United States I choked on my cornflakes when I read on the My Old Kentucky Home that Calico Horse, the band formerly known as The Clock Work Army , are "what [...]
