My initial thought: Bruce Springsteen ? I have a hard time not associating this California Wives' song with The Boss. The first instrumental bit is quite reminiscent of Springsteen's "Born to Run". I don't think you'll disagree. The same can't be said about the rest of the song from the Chicago-based band, though. Heavily-influenced by Bruce, the instrumental breaks of "Marianne" are accompanied by breathy, indie pop verses making for a unique mixture of old and new.
