Silver Eyes by Sunny Shadows Back in January, we were really grooving on local space-psych duo Calm Palm Vapor , but they ultimately parted ways. Half of the outfit, Jose Rodriguez, went on to craft the impressive, ambitious double ambient LP Double Fantasy Vacation under the moniker Secret Wars. And now we have some new tunes from CPV's other half, Pierogi, as he recently dropped the debut album, Coupled Lux Influx , for his new project, Sunny Shadows [...]
Sort of feel I should be slapped for that headline, but what's done is done. Anyway, a few weeks back, our r ecommended listening for you was the track “Run The Tables” from Chicago's dream-pop, chillwave (even though I hate to use that term, but it fits) outfit Calm Palm Vapor . Well, just yesterday the band released a new video for “Run The Tables," which was directed by Brian Cook of Panda Riot and features bear masked people riding in spaceships, dancing in a forest and all that good stuff. And don't forget: Calm Palm [...]
Panda Riot Whoop! There it is! Friday, it is, rather. Unfortunately, there's no more Chicago football to be watched and obsessed over, but there are plenty of great music options this weekend including Panda Riot at Simone's Bar , Michael Lux and the Bad Son s at the Bottom Lounge , Dorain Taj at the Double Door and so much more. Let's get to it, shall we? FRIDAY [...]
With a name like Calm Palm Vapor and a debut album titled Morning Pacific , you'd think the band is from the sunny west coast. But no, the dreamy-pop, space-psych sounds of Calm Palm Vapor were birthed right here in frigid Chicago. The duo formed just last year, but have already released their full-length debut. One track that we really like from the record is "Run The Tables", which begins light percussion and steady synths before bringing on the guitars and layers upon layers of digital noise. Pretty epic stuff. Listen to "Run The Tables" [...]

Fewer posters this week, so here's an mp3 to make up for it. Don't know why I slept on Way Yes previously. Good stuff. MP3: Way Yes - Walkability More info here . Poster by Yoni Mizrachi of Maza Blaska. More info here .

Shoegaze with a hint of Motown. That's how Calm Palm Vapor labeled themselves in their email to me last week, and if for no other reason than because I'd never seen those two words together in a sentence before, I gave them a listen, and you know? They're kind of onto something there. Personally I'd put them somewhere in between here and the Sun, occupying a soundscape that's at times reminiscent of Air's cosmos-inspired synths, percussion weened from The Stone Roses' first album, and melodies that in some kind of fucked up hybrid between Grandaddy and Super Furry [...]

Last week I was locked in mortal debate with a dear friend as to which were better? Old-school slow-moving zombies (ala Night Of The Living Dead ) or the hyperkinetic variety (ala 28 Days Later ). Before too long things got very personal-I guess we can add zombies to religion and politics as verboten dinner table conversation topics-but by featuring Calm Palm Vapor in New Band Smell , my position on the whole zombie question should be abundantly clear. I absolutely love that this Chicago duo (which [...]

Calm Palm Vapor From: Chicago, United States Calm Palm Vapor is a four piece post shoegazing band from the South Side of Chicago. They have just released their new album 'Morning Pacific' . Where the classic shoegazers built an ear splitting wall of sound with layer on layer of guitar 'Morning Pacific' is more sublimely melodic and wonderfully contemplative. Hate To See You Smile is a languid, deep pool of a track conjuring up [...]
Thank you for asking! My back is feeling a whole lot better and the light at the end of the tunnel is now visible. Not bright and clear, but visible. Feels really good, though rather unfamiliar, trying to be positive and optimistic! French Horn Rebellion remixes new OMD single If You Want It and the end result is worse than bad. It’s free to download “if you want it” to check out yourself. I’ve been a fan of OMD [...]

It's been a fair old while since Dots & Dashes juiced up the Magical Music Roundabout but then conversely, equally infrequently have a crop of slightly special acts seeped into our inbox. Weaning ourselves slowly but surely off of Monarchy's self-titled debut LP has authoritatively restricted the reception of *new music*, with its synthetic über-suaveness governing a perpetually infinite pile of promo acetate. The flag flies Monarchy atop the mound. Yet prowling base camp are the following... Fourth Of July Heartbreak never [...]

Take anything you love and make it a responsibility - eventually you wont love it like you use to (children excluded. That is biological). I'm not going to expound on that idea. If you've been coming here for any length of time you'll know that I like to explore. dig. dive. dust. understand ideas and their perplexing attributes at askew angles. Maybe it's all junk though. I don't know. I'm burned out on thinking about it. And So... I'm not listening to as much music either. Again say, burned out. So posting is less frequent - I'll post when I [...]

(NASA/Agence France-Presse/Getty Images) Calm Palm Vapor - "Run the Tables" Calm Palm Vapor - "Hate To See You Smile" Calm Palm Vapor label themselves "Space Motown" which seems rather fitting seeing as how it sounds as though they craft their songs inside a spacecraft hovering high above the Earth. They look out the window, down at the big blue marble below and gain a better [...]
