It is a bumper week for Scottish bands on tour internationally this week with 18 bands playing across the world. Highlights include Camera Obscura and A-Lix in South America, Codeine Velvet Club in Romania and the mighty Bis at the Primavera Festival. Vic has more on Bis alongside the full listings below: As a side note, [...]

And why not? This might be the best idea yet :) I kind of missed the recap - especially since I've been showcasing really nice songs as of late. I'm not posting the songs here though, too much effort - so it'd be best to visit the site everyday if you want a link for a download (if you don't know it yet, yer lyric of the day songs up top on the right side there can be downloaded by a simple right-click and Save As). If you missed hearing the song though, our dear old Facebook page [...]

Day 2 of ATP started well with Horse Guard Parade kicking things off at Centre Stage with a track that could have been written by Calexico (and a lead singer who, from where we were sitting, looked the spitting image of Joey Burns). They played a mixture of country-tinged indie and straightforward indie which was in places extremely catchy and in places extremely dull. I wandered off about 4 songs in, slightly bored, to find a WiFi connection, and returned for the final track, an upbeat number, that I wouldn't mind hearing again. This is not much of a description, [...]

To Barcelona to be precise. In a little over two months (July). We've been planning it for some time, and felt it was time we shared the news with you, dear reader. This means we'll probably be mentioning the move now and then, and you'll understand what the hell we're talking about if we start mentioning boxes and moving trucks and apartments and Ikea. I first moved to Athens many years ago to spend one college year abroad. That year soon became four and even [...]

Well, my friends... The end of music bloggerin' as you & I know it may be ending soon. It's true. You see, over in Ireland, there's a group called IMRO that is basically a union for music artists that have decided it would be a good thing to force music bloggers who host music on their site to pay licensing fees to "play" the music on the site if it's available in Ireland (of course it's available in Ireland, as far as I know, none of block any countries). [...]

Frank Yang Whenever I see reviews of Kate Nash's just-released sophomore effort My Best Friend Is You that put forward the tracks that represent her well-documented discovery of Riot Grrl as the standouts and bemoan the number of pure pop numbers on the record, I have to wonder if the writers of said pieces actually like Kate Nash. Because as commendable as it is that she's seeking to branch out beyond her precocious piano girl image and explore her interest in louder, rawer sounds, the inescapable fact is is [...]

So, Day 2! I started off Day 2 with two of my friend's choices, but both were enjoyable. The first was RX Bandits, a sort of metal band with ska/reggae influences from Long Beach California. Not really something I would ever listen to on its own, but at a concert it was pretty fun. They drew a very large crowd for a noon show, as did the next band, Porcupine Tree, a pretty famous prog/psych rock band from the ?80s?. This one I just sort of laid down on the field not to far [...]

Filed under: New Music Superchunk 's Mac McCaughan and Laura Ballance created Merge Records in 1989 simply as a way to release their music and help out some of their friends. Things have come a long way in 21 years. The Durham, North Carolina-based label marked its 20th anniversary last year by staging a music festival, as well as releasing a box set, two compilations and a book. Over the years, Merge has put out more than 350 records by the likes of [...]
Regular followers of Dear Scotland will already know a lot about Meursault through Matthew Young's articles. The band are a major part of the Edinburgh music scene and Matthew's Song by Toad Record Label and their new album is released next month. This week they embark on their first European tour. Vic has the details. Meursault [...]

Day 2 started out with extremely low expectations. I was up really late the night before and couldn't sleep in that late, so I thought I would be a little out of sorts all day. But luckily after 3 breakfast burritos (the third with extra jalapeno and hot sauce) and a few bottles of water, I was feeling a little more like myself again. I took a look at the set times for the day and while I was looking forward to a few acts, I hadn't made any decisions about the night, and nothing really struck [...]

Camera Obscura are set to play one of the biggest shows of their career so far at Coachella tomorrow and last week they were in Austin for a show at Emo's on 6th. I met up with the band at Casino El Camino to talk about Coachella, the Beastie Boys, Craig Ferguson and Doctor Who. Dear [...]
