I can't get to everything. This week's victims are: Matt Lashoff, Living On Heart This comes from one of the unlikeliest of source, Toronto Maple Leafs' defenceman Matt Lashoff. The album consists mostly of guitar-based pop rock that isn't usually my cup of tea. However, between Lashoff's surprisingly restrained raspy vocals and the gritty songs, there's definitely something to recommend here

When we got the press for Cameron McGill's latest project. The header on the email read something like "Like Jeff Buckley! Mazzy Star! Prince!". Surprise! they were kinda right. The vocal fidelity of Buckley in some of the more falsetto-y bits, the dusty warmth of Mazzy, and the punch of the Purple One. Also Wilco. Sounds a bit like Wilco, guys! "Let's Make Dinosaurs Extinct" is a shitty concept but a killer song. (Let's bring dinos back, amirite?) Hit me! Look out for Cam's great Is a Beast LP at a digital retailer near you. [...]
This song is retarded (the good kind of retarded) good. Not much more to say than that. Just watch/listen and make up your own mind... You BETTER like it though. Cameron McGill's Bandcamp
Our great friends from MonkeyEatsMonkey keep churning out great live video from MOKB Presents live shows. Cameron McGill & What Army performed at The White Rabbit on January. If you like this, we also recently showcased another live video of Cameron McGill & What Amry featuring one of the new tracks from his upcoming album Is A Beast . This track, If Darkness Would Rather Come is from Cameron's album Street Ballads and Murderesques . [...]
Cameron McGill & What Army will release their latest LP, Is A Beast on April 12th. This past December, Gift Horse Project and Art of Elysium's "Elysium Sessions", put on a one-time musical night at the famed Largo Theater in Los Angeles. Cameron McGill performed, along with the GHP Band, Emily Kokal (Warpaint), Rain Phoenix (Papercranes), Leslie Stevens (Leslie Stevens and the Badgers), and Joe Sumner (Fiction Plane). You can hear more and download a couple tracks from the new album at Cameron's Bandcamp .

Let me tell you a little bit about my year, needless to say it's been one of a lot of reflection and a relentless tug of wars between my mind and heart. I think my heart is losing the battle, but do not fear the mind is still in full operational mode. On a recent trip to Arizona I picked up this little gem and listened to it non-stop all the way home. It's amazing how cathartic long drives can be at times. Road trips are great when the destination is clearly define, but [...]

Mountains Below.

Parasol welcomes Chicago folk-rock act Cameron McGill & What Army. Their new album, Warm Songs for Cold Shoulders, is set for an early April release on Parasol Records. Lots of touring in support. Veteran Seattle psych-pop band The Green Pajamas' gorgeous new album, Poison In the Russian Room, is set for an early April launch. This is their 7th release for Hidden Agenda Records. Hometown heroes New Ruins' second album, We Make Our Own Bad Luck, will be released by Hidden Agenda this Spring. Rootsy folk-rock haunted by rural spectres. LP in March, CD in [...]

Cameron McGill and What Army I've been following Cameron McGill since he played the South Park Music Festival in '06. He played Monolith last year too, but that was only at the acoustic stage, accompanied by Leslie of Leslie and the Badgers. This time he brought his full band along, and I must say I've never heard his material better. It is amazing how well he carried the songs on his own, but compared to his performance with his [...]
I found a review for the South Park Music Festival that I wrote back in '06 before I had the music Blog, and I figured to prepare for my posting more about the Monolith Music Festival, I'd post it. I don't know if you knew this, but the Monolith Music Festival is run by one of the guys who ran the South Park Music Festival , so without the SPMF , Monolith wouldn't be around (though it seems as though another new Festival, the Fresh Track Music Fest , also [...]

We were happy to get Cameron McGill in to record an MOKB SIRIUS Blog Radio / 91.7 WEEM session with us. We got Cameron and co. on a showbill last Friday and he and the others packed the house and did not disappoint. If you haven't heard, McGill is a singer/songwriter from Chicago who fans of alt-country mainstays like Ryan Adams and Rocky Votolato will really love. Fans of Bob Dylan, Neil Young and other singer/songwriters that cross great pop stylings [...]
Well, it's a bummer about the Cloud Cult show being cancelled (We wish them the best of luck with their troubles and in finishing their new record), but we have another great show we're putting on with The Monolith Music Festival the very next night! Local favorites Everything, Now! along with Cameron McGill, Grampall Jookabox and former Chamberlain member David Moore will all be performing at Radio Radio for only $5! Four bands for $5 is a deal you just can't beat. [...]
