![Who's Hot In Ottawa's Music Scene 2012 [POLL]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4106835_lg.jpg)
Aren't Ottawa folks pretty wild? Couldn't think of photo to use for this post. Don't we all love (or dislike) polls and surveys? I am doing this for "fun", see if this experiment works and not to be taken very seriously. This will show that Ottawa is not a boring city. Here is the first annual "Who's Hot In Ottawa's Music Scene 20123. There is a good and interesting music scene happening here. So why not showcase these Ottawa bands and musicians. [...]

As promised a couple weeks back in my Faves of 2011 post, I have extra vinyl editions of two of those fine records to grant to some lucky souls. And they couldn't be more different: Camp Radio 's "Campista Socialista" full-length and Idaho 's "You Were A Dick" LP. A blast of Canadian trio power-pop and one man's LA-based, keyboard-driven melancholia. As I started prepping this giveaway this morning, Chromewaves happened to post a review of the Camp Radio album (confluence!), so head over there to read Frank's thoughts, then come back [...]

Killbeat If we were to spool up the Wayback Machine to November 2006 , you'd find a post where I confessed that sending me a lovely slab of vinyl was a pretty good way to get to the top of my "to listen to" pile... something that apparently still holds true over a half decade later. But as I pointed out even way back then, a listen is not the same as a writeup so I find it comforting to know that Camp Radio still has the goods to impress in whatever format they're [...]

I know, I know. Lists are annoying and trying to assign rankings and value to art is subjective at best. That's why these records - 25 from releases that really made an impact on me in '11 - aren't branded with any type of distinction other than "favorite." These are records, not songs, that warmed my heart, eased my pain, inspired my creativity or simply helped tap my toe or nod my head. They never asked for anything more than a listen, and I was more than happy to oblige. That being said, there [...]

Here is part three of the Best of 2011 Canadian albums. We are almost getting halfway through the list. Here is the ranking from #30-21. 30. Shotgun Jimmie - Transistor Sister Listen to Late Last Year and Transistor Sister . 29. Coeur de Pirate - Blonde Listen to Adieu and Cap Diamant . 28. Ferriswheel [...]
Adele, "Rolling In The Deep" It was astonishingly ubiquitous (okay, overplayed), but every time I hear this I'm still astonished at how good it is. Adele's voice finds its perfect showcase, hitting pleading high notes and low, dirty growls. "You're gonna wish you / Never had met me," the backup singers chirp ominously, as the kick [...]

Here is Day 5 of the Holiday contest. This time you can win a pair of tickets to see Camp Radio and Winchester Warm at Ottawa's Club Saw on December 10, 2011 . This show should be filled with holiday cheers. Don't forget to bring a non-perishable food item for the Ottawa Food Bank (?). Thanks to Chris Page of Camp Radio and One Kind Word for setting up this contest and show. [...]
Dude, admit it: you miss the 90s. Vintage sneakers, Elastica on the radio, plaid everything. I wore fishnets and too much eyeshadow in a quest (not yet fully abandoned) to be Shirley Manson. It was the best of rock and roll times. So when I hear a record that hearkens back to those days, I [...]
![Sheezer & Camp Radio @ Zaphod Beeblebrox [November 5, 2011]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3841949_lg.jpg)
It was a fun and packed November 5th show at Zaphod Beeblebrox . Toronto's all girl Weezer cover band Sheezer returned to Ottawa. You can say "third time's the charm". With one show cancelled and another show (next door) that was sold out. The place was pretty packed with uni/college kids and those wanting to have a nostalgic time singing to Weezer songs from the Blue and Pinkerton album. The show started off with Ottawa's Camp Radio [...]

Wait, was this really over two weeks ago? Well, that was a blur. While I won't deny I got my usual kick out of playing new songs for sociable patrons at my favorite Cambridge bar, the preparation and follow-through were just plain rough . Jetlag + influenza do not a fun equation make. I was freshly back from drumming on the (flat-out amazing) 10-day Let's Whisper UK tour , which ended with a 7-hour drive, a 7-hour flight, a few hours sleep, a crazy workday, a 4-hour drive, and a homecoming show. Followed closely by a [...]

From one show to another on September 17, 2011. I went down to Babylon Nightclub where it was Camp Radio 's album release show. They released their second album Campista Socialista which sadly the vinyl edition wasn't available but the CD edition was. I got there when they played their second song. Fearing if I arrived that the show will have ended. But it didn't and all I can say was the show was rocking loud! [...]

You see that fancy poster ^^^? Well, it's the first of many ways we are spreading the word about the herohill, Saved By Vinyl, Kelp Records HPX mega jams happening during HPX. We've loved both labels for many moons now, so getting the chance to get some of their artists on not one, but two shows is something of which we are very proud. We will be posting up at our favorite venue - The Company House - for the official showcase (lovingly named the Bottomfeeders Ball) on Friday evening and [...]
![Camp Radio – Campista Socialista [Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3704149_lg.jpg)
I will admit to this. This is my first time listening to a Camp Radio 's new album Campista Socialista. There is something quirky and cool about that album title. But I've seen the band live two times on Kelp Records related events. For those that don't know, the band members consist of: Chris Page Dave Draves Scott Terry I didn't know it's Camp Radio's second album to date since [...]
Here are a few MP3s of songs from some of better albums released this week. Camp Radio – "The Girl Who Stole My Motorbike" and "Turn Up the Radio" from Campista Socialista. Peter Wolf Crier – "Right Away" and "Settling It Off" from Garden of Arms. The Rapture – "How Deep Is Your Love?" from In the Grace of Your Love. Sleeping in the Aviary – "Talking Out of Turn" from You and Me, Ghost. After the jump, there is also a list of more new releases from this week. Continue reading…

Comfortable. It's hard to believe a band that plays crunching power popping riffs and sings about the type of love and fears we obsess about as adolescents can be comfortable, but that's exactly why Camp Radio is so important to me. They're the pair of kicks that I reach for every time I leave the house. They're the band t-shirt I keep year after year, because of the memories attached to each hole or stain. What often gets lost in the shuffle is there are two ways to search for new music. [...]
