Thanks to Ralph's ever expanding empire of reviewers (OK there's two now) in Scotland I bring you a live review of the Book Group 'Homeward Sound' EP launch in Edinburgh's Pilrig St Pauls Church. [...]

OK bands you know the score..... the more hits your blog gets by the fans, the higher you go..... So tweet it, Facebook it..... [...]

I can't believe that eight months have passed since I first blogged those lovely hirsute young men Campfires In Winter after hearing the melodious 'Twelve Thousand Drops'. So it was with great joy and expectation when news of a proper debut single release on March 4th dropped into Ralph's inbox. [...]

Vasa – Never Have Dreams EP Vasa's mathy post rock is something to behold. The meaty bass tangled with the chiming guitar lines is a recipe for something really special. The whole EP is excellent but a special mention must go to Not Now, But Soon, which shifts silkily from from its optimistic major key riffs to something a little more Eastern, heavy and dark. This is beautiful. Cynthia by Vasa Never Have [...]

Behold my mighty Paint skills. This time last week we were hours away from the first Scottish Fiction/Aye Tunes/Peenko blogger circle jerk gig. It went pretty well, good bands and a decent crowd. Rather than do the sensible thing and hibernate for a bit, I have two more gigs in the next three weeks. Let me tell you about them. First up is another of my solo ventures, as I dust of the ever insightful Aye Tunes Presents label for another gig. As is normal with these gigs now, I'm [...]

Some of you might have noticed a distinct lack of a We've Got It Covered post on Saturday, as I am sure that most of you will already know I was up at T in the Park with Randolph's Leap. Fuck me that was a trek and half, I ended up getting our van well and truly stuck in the mud, which in turn ended up with me joining the AA in order for them tow us out. Normally at festivals I piss my money away on over-priced beer and rank rotten burgers, signing up for breakdown cover [...]

As there was no Friday Freebies last week as I was still up north recovering from my post-goNorth hangover, this weeks post is a bit a monster. A good friendly monster, filled with lots of free goodness... The State Broadcasters I haven't really posted much about what has been going on with the label I co-run, Olive Grove Records, for a while now. Not because I have intentionally tried to keep the two apart, more so because I am a bit forgetful, once I have been doing all of my promo stuff [...]

I reject your claim that I am "cheating" with this image by saying nyah nyah. Let's stick with the only mildly homoerotic "Aye Tunes Hearts Peenko" theme a bit more today. Much like yesterday I blamed Urusei Yatsura for this blog existing, today I blame Chemikal Underground for giving me the stupid idea to promote gigs. Chemikal Underground and beer. "How on Earth can you blame Chemikal Underground for you being a fool?" you ask? Well, I'll tell you. It was back in January of 2010, wandering down the road for [...]

Right I know I said I wasn't going to do one of these for a few weeks, but seeing as my favourite bookmarks is getting out of control I thought I'd post up some links to some of the best stuff that I've found recently. We Were Promised Jetpacks One of the main reason for me wanting to post a Freebies was the new Jetpacks song, I fully appreciate that most of you will have already downloaded their new song ' Act On Impulse ', but if you haven't then you really should as [...]
Day five of the Christmas songs, and I'm digging up another repeat from last year. I was sent this by Campfires In Winter last year and almost burst something laughing. It wasn't up for long and I've had a couple of emails over the last year asking about it, so I'm happy to represent Campfires In Winter's Christmas Song this year. I'll quote repeat Boab from CiW's description of the song and, down below, the disclaimer I promised to post along with it - "it's about 2 guys getting pished, one of [...]

There are certain moments that define your life, it's the little things that tend to stick with you. One such moment for me was the last Define Pop festival at the Flying Duck, yes I got drunk, saw lots of great bands and danced like a total fanny (there is video evidence of this, but I'll be fucked if I am going to actively share it with you). More importantly for me it was a day were I got to meet and make friends with a lot of great people. If I hadn't been there, then I am pretty sure [...]

Monday - Skies Fell took on some Fresh Meat action Tuesday - Sexual Objects Session for Vic, plus our good friends over at Gerry Loves told us a bit more themselves as my 8th DIY label Wednesday - Zoobizaretta became the 35th entry into the coveted Scots Way-Hay club Thursday - there was a wee announcement of a special gig in November (more of that below). There was also a wee interview with the lovely folk at Instinctive Racoon [...]

This was the second show that I did for Fresh Air, joining me that week I had Boab from Campfires in Winter in to co-host/try and keep me in check. Not sure if he fully managed it or not though! On the plus side we did get to play loads of great music, including two exclusives (at that time) from Come On Gang! and the mysterious Let's Talk About Trees. The banter may well be pish, but the tunes are top notch! Tracks Played 1. Come On Gang! - Fortune [...]

Campfires in Winter I couldn't not mention this, in fact I have been dying to share this with you all for a while now. Monday there saw the release of the Campfires debut EP, 'Cardboard Ships', they just finished a wee tour of folks flats this week, which was a hell of a lot of fun. They're playing this evening at the Pin Up Nights festival, it should be a cracking evening. Anyway, enough of my ramblings get downloading their EP over on their Bandcamp now. Adam Stafford & The Death Bridge [...]

Campfires in Winter gave me a thrill at first listen. And no, it's not just that Scottish accent, contrary to what my American friends will think, heh. It's that initial clash of sound - how can you seriously resist that when it's immediately followed by a flowing melody, tinged with reverb? Recipe for smash hit!!! They've been all the talk of my Edinburg/Glasgow friends and now I know why. So thank you, Lloyd , for sending them my way. I hope you all go crazy over them, their creativity and talent surely deserve it. If you like the [...]
