Right I know I said I wasn't going to do one of these for a few weeks, but seeing as my favourite bookmarks is getting out of control I thought I'd post up some links to some of the best stuff that I've found recently. We Were Promised Jetpacks One of the main reason for me wanting to post a Freebies was the new Jetpacks song, I fully appreciate that most of you will have already downloaded their new song ' Act On Impulse ', but if you haven't then you really should as [...]
Day five of the Christmas songs, and I'm digging up another repeat from last year. I was sent this by Campfires In Winter last year and almost burst something laughing. It wasn't up for long and I've had a couple of emails over the last year asking about it, so I'm happy to represent Campfires In Winter's Christmas Song this year. I'll quote repeat Boab from CiW's description of the song and, down below, the disclaimer I promised to post along with it - "it's about 2 guys getting pished, one of [...]

There are certain moments that define your life, it's the little things that tend to stick with you. One such moment for me was the last Define Pop festival at the Flying Duck, yes I got drunk, saw lots of great bands and danced like a total fanny (there is video evidence of this, but I'll be fucked if I am going to actively share it with you). More importantly for me it was a day were I got to meet and make friends with a lot of great people. If I hadn't been there, then I am pretty sure [...]

This was the second show that I did for Fresh Air, joining me that week I had Boab from Campfires in Winter in to co-host/try and keep me in check. Not sure if he fully managed it or not though! On the plus side we did get to play loads of great music, including two exclusives (at that time) from Come On Gang! and the mysterious Let's Talk About Trees. The banter may well be pish, but the tunes are top notch! Tracks Played 1. Come On Gang! - Fortune [...]

Campfires in Winter I couldn't not mention this, in fact I have been dying to share this with you all for a while now. Monday there saw the release of the Campfires debut EP, 'Cardboard Ships', they just finished a wee tour of folks flats this week, which was a hell of a lot of fun. They're playing this evening at the Pin Up Nights festival, it should be a cracking evening. Anyway, enough of my ramblings get downloading their EP over on their Bandcamp now. Adam Stafford & The Death Bridge [...]

Campfires in Winter gave me a thrill at first listen. And no, it's not just that Scottish accent, contrary to what my American friends will think, heh. It's that initial clash of sound - how can you seriously resist that when it's immediately followed by a flowing melody, tinged with reverb? Recipe for smash hit!!! They've been all the talk of my Edinburg/Glasgow friends and now I know why. So thank you, Lloyd , for sending them my way. I hope you all go crazy over them, their creativity and talent surely deserve it. If you like the [...]
Croy based, Post-Rock Pop outfit Campfires in Winter celebrate the release of their debut EP "Cardboard Ships" on 'stand & wave' with a mini 'flat' tour. The band are embarking on a series of intimate acoustic gigs, playing for fans in their very own living rooms! This is a new concept in band promotion, breaking down the barriers between fans and the music and taking the shared experience to new and unparalleled levels! The Campfires In Winter's sound has previously been compared to the likes of Broken Social Scene, The Twilight Sad, and Coatbridge post rockers Kasule. Their [...]

Campfires in Winter - Cardboard Ships Campfires in Winter are a new band from Croy, Glasgow. They've just released their debut EP titled Cardboard Ships (which you can download for free from our link below). They play the usual post-rock that Glasgow is famous for, with lots of similarities to Frightened Rabbit (perhaps due to the lead singer's heavy Scottish accent). That said, I really enjoyed their songs and will be waiting for their first full work. Campfires [...]

In case you haven't been paying attention myself and Jim 'Ayetunes' are taking our first tentative steps into gig promotion. On Friday the 30th of April we have a belter of an line up which includes 2 of my tips for big things this year, Mitchell Museum and Campfires in Winter , with my favourite live act of 2009, Kid Canaveral headlining the evening. Kid Canaveral - Good Morning In case you are new to any of these bands [...]
I first came across the Glasgow Podcart after Boab introduced me to Sean and Halina at a Yahweh and applesofenergy gig last year. Due to the consumption of a few cans of the finest Red Stripe, my memories of that evening are a bit blurry, I do remember being bowled over about how passionate they both were about music and what they wanted to do with the Podcart. My other memory is of rambling utter shit at Sean for quite a long time, I still cringe when I recall that moment. The following day, I was hungover in [...]

Hand on heart, I won't lie to you, I'm friends with the Campfire boys. So there might seem to be a fair degree of bias in choosing them as one of my acts to watch this year. Personally I couldn't give a monkeys chuff, as I've heard the demos and they are quite frankly amazing. Well as I have been grooming him and the rest of the 'kids' (as I have affectionately come to call them), have been churning out great songs for a couple of years now. There are plans for a limited release EP [...]
