Shockingly, it's now been a year 1 without redoubtable producer/MC/singer/Jukie Camu Tao . i'm sure my feelings on hearing the news of his death, a couple of days after my birthday, coming completely out of leftfield — cancer? 31 years old? dead? There must be some mistake. — are shared by a lot of Jux fans. Camu's Jux labelmates, including Aes Rock , Cage , and El-P have also been remembering, posting brief anniversary reminiscences [...]
Yesterday was the one year anniversary of Camu Tao's death . Memorial day BBQ's in Columbus poured out a little liquor and T.R.O.Yed the fallen Columbus Hip Hop supernova. Pos 2 posted on an unreleased S.A. Smash song on the Weightless message board with this description: ...it's an unreleased sa smash track from smashy trashy. to my knowledge this was one of the 1st recordings for the lp. przm gave me a tape so we could listen to it in the car of some of the [...]

It was exactly one year to the day that I was at Soundset last year. Aesop Rock took the stage and looked visibly shooken. He made the announcement over the microphone that long time friend and associate Camu Tao had passed away. Yesterday at Soundset El-P made sure to remind us that he'd appreciate it if we kept his great friend in our prayers. Camu Tao was an incredibly integral part of independent Hip-Hop. He was a part of The Weathermen, MHz, Nighthawks (with Cage), Central Services (with El-P) & also a member of Cardboard City. Camu was [...]
Pos2 with Blowfly at Magnolia Thunderpussy. Columbus Hip Hop mainstay DJ Pos 2 recently curated an Ohio History Comp for bigtime backpack website Philaflava. All you Ohio music nerd/historians should give it a split second because iono..its Ohio history. Hip Hoppers should rejoice that he offered up the 3ms joint that the "Hold the Floor" instrumental was originally made for. Read about and Download: Triple Crown Classic Ohio Hip Hop Comp

It looks as though your favorite emcee who never fails to give you the punchlines you always crave is back in action this year. In an article I read on HipHop DX, I found out that Copywrite has three different projects coming out this year. It made me wonder, is everyone putting out a [...]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =MYc-_tGdsjg When the MHZ moved to NY to solidify their friendships with Def Jux and EC, they would come home and tell us stories about living in a shitty apartment. Some of these experiences ended up on some of the Bagface 5 songs. I am assuming this video is of the Kitchen-Motel they stayed in. "The only difference between the Wayans Brothers and the Smothers Brothers is that the Smothers Brothers are actually funny."

I think that everyone who reads this blog is in accord that the world doesn't need another El Producto concert review where the writer strains to cram in the words, "Orwellian," "dystopian" and "nihilistic." Instead, here are a few scattered thoughts from last Thursday's LA stop on the Def Jux: Spaceships and Soy Milk 2008 World Tour. It's nice to see that people are okay with liking hip-hop again. Not like I blame indie rappers for trying to push genre boundaries because let's face it, rap's been mired in an Andruw Jones-like slump/bloat [...]

Camu Tao from Columbus,Ohio passed away earlier today do to complications from an ongoing bought with cancer. Camu was crucial in putting Columbus on the map with his brilliant, futuristic production, and in the pocket off-kilter flow as shown with the MHz, SA Smash, and the Weathermen as well as his solo work. He was just extemely gifted. Dood also had a strong sense of humor. I remember being at Przm's house along time ago, and someone had fallen asleep. Camu dumped ketchup on the guys shirt. He then woke the man up [...]
It seems Def Jux is a little jealous of Stones Throw Records collaborations with animated panic-spreading geniuses Adult Swim so they decided to get on the free mixtape action too. Its called Definitive Swim and features tracks from Def Jukies Aesop Rock, Cage, Mr. Lif, Rob Sonic, El-P amongst others. You can download the album as a zip with the artwork and all. I know the Aesop and El-P tracks are new as theyre from their forthcoming album. Before you get it though, have a look at the tracklisting and listen to a few of the tunes below. They also [...]
