[Listen] Half Moon Run- Full Circle

[Listen] Half Moon Run- Full Circle by teepoo I've heard a ton of hype lately about Montreal's Half Moon Run, so I decided to see what the big deal is. Now I have been listening to their latest release Dark Eyes non stop. Their style of fast-talking and rhythmic music is so infectious. Full Circle is the title track but you seriously have to head over to Bandcamp and here the rest. Oh yah here's the video:

[Watch] Octoberman- Wind Up Bird

Cold Specks reveals 'Blank Maps' to the release of "I Predict A Graceful Expulsion"

Cold Specks reveals 'Blank Maps' to the release of "I Predict A Graceful Expulsion" The new album from Cold Specks is due in May. While being fairly familiar with Cold Specks and her previous works/monikers, the new album is looking (sounding) better and better...especially after hearing the production in Blank Maps below! While I have always enjoyed her raw cathartic sounding 'folk noir' - I think it is really coming into its own with the added fine tuning for the full release. While it does get a bit of a shinier coating, it still retains that gothic soul I have come to love from her. The song is [...]

[Watch] Seven Symphonies- Endless

Endless
by teepoo Check out this catchy tune from my friends at Deadfly Records . I love the adorable idea of using home videos from when they were kids.

[Listen] Japandroids- The House That Heaven Built

[Listen] Japandroids- The House That Heaven Built by teepoo I have to catch up on like two weeks worth of music, but I can't believe I missed this. This new catchy punk-pop tune is part of their new upcoming release titled Celebration Rock which will be out June 5th . I love how their titles seem to mock genre barriers. I love how mid-track it almost seems to end but nooooo , it only gets better.

[Listen/Download] PS I Love You- Princess Towers

[Listen/Download] PS I Love You- Princess Towers Here's a new track from PS I Love You . It's noisier than ever, but the hand claps make it pleasanter to listen to. The song comes off their upcoming album Death Dreams to be released May 8th . PS I Love You- Princess Towers

[CMW] Caveman @ Lee's Palace 03/23/2012

[CMW] Caveman @ Lee's Palace 03/23/2012 by teepoo I was too lazy to move venues on Friday so I stayed the night. Next up was New York band Caveman. Finally, something with more energy and they definitely pumped up the crowd. I had heard of the band from my fellow American bloggers as they had some buzz during CMJ. The band had some funky patterned shirts which fit their quirkiness. The front man also played percussion to add intensity to the sound. Caveman- Thankful Gallery

[CMW] PS I Love You @ Lee's Palace 03/23/2012

[CMW] PS I Love You @ Lee's Palace 03/23/2012 by teepoo PS I Love You was the band I really wanted to see that night. I was utterly disappointed though. Paul was sick that night and they took way too long to set up and tune between sets. For a band that is signed and has some traction, I expected to see more energy on stage but it wasn't that exciting. PS I Love You- Sentimental Dishes Gallery

Video Thursday with Andy Shauf & Zachary Lucky

ANDY SHAUF - Covered In Dust
ANDY SHAUF - Covered In Dust from Mitch Fillion (southernsouls.ca) on Vimeo . Today we have a couple of videos from a couple of guys that know me as "that old guy they had coffee with in Calgary one day". Yeah, its not hard to think that way when you meet up with a couple of talented young musicians on a tour stop in Calgary. Early last year Myself, Andy and Zachary visited a local coffee shop near my day job and we had good coffee, a couple of laughs and a good conversation. [...]

[CMW] Tim Chaisson and Morning Fold @ Sneaky Dee's 03/23/2012

[CMW] Tim Chaisson and Morning Fold @ Sneaky Dee's 03/23/2012 by teepoo The other group I caught at Sneaky Dee's was Tim Chaisson and Morning Fold. Besides Tim Chaisson having pretty dreamy eyes, his music was pretty catchy too. Another great musician from the tiny island of PEI! He even pulled out the fiddle for a song. I'm a sucker for the fiddle. Gallery Check out this video of their song Slipping Away .

[CMW] Raccoon Bandit @ Sneaky Dee's 03/23/2012

[CMW] Raccoon Bandit @ Sneaky Dee's 03/23/2012 by teepoo I caught part of the day time East Coast set at Sneaky Dee's on Friday afternoon. I made it in time for PEI's Raccoon Bandit . At first they began with the drummer (Adam Gallant) as the vocalist and I was like "Who on earth is singing?" . Fraser McCallum took over lead after that. They played a great set of alternative folk pop with references to Canada everywhere. Raccoon Bandit- Get Off Gallery

[CMW] USS @ Cabin 5 03/22/2012

[CMW] USS @ Cabin 5 03/22/2012 by teepoo I had heard there was going to be a secret guest at Cabin 5 Thursday so I took my chances and stayed the night. They didn't announce who it was until very close to the set time. It ended up being Parkdale's USS short for Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker. The grunge rock and drum and bass mixture isn't something I would have seen by choice but I ended up having a great time. The group on stage consisted of a guitarist, a drummer and a turntablist/hype man. [...]

[CMW] The Balconies @ Cabin 5 03/22/2012

[CMW] The Balconies @ Cabin 5 03/22/2012 by teepoo I continued my Thursday night music journey by spending the rest of it at Cabin 5. I didn't see The Balconies earlier that night at the Audioblood Party so I caught them here. They played to a pretty packed house and I've never been to Cabin 5, but it sounded pretty great considering the tiny space for set up. Jacquie looks so much more like a rock star compared to the first time I've ever seen them. She sure looked like a bad-ass rocker [...]

[CMW] Broken Bricks @ Hard Luck Bar 03/22/2012

[CMW] Broken Bricks @ Hard Luck Bar 03/22/2012 by teepoo I have no idea how I walked from El Mocambo to Hard Luck (which is kind of in middle of no where), but I made it in time to catch Broken Bricks . Marlon and Luke had a full band with them and they both looked like such rock stars. Luke was behind this striped box thing and I took a while to realize it was a keyboard! They played songs from both Little Fugitives and Pasquale . Even with a smaller [...]

[CMW] Ariane Moffatt @ El Mocambo 03/22/2012

[CMW] Ariane Moffatt @ El Mocambo 03/22/2012 by teepoo Ariane Moffatt's MA is so far my favourite album of 2012, so naturally I just had to see her set. Her set was just as amazing as the album in terms of energy and seductiveness. Her band had what looked like a keytar except made with a bass. Ariane played keyboard, drums and tambourine as she sang in both French and English. Ariane Moffatt- In Your Body Gallery

[CMW] Sandman Viper Command @ Audioblood Party 03/22/2012

[CMW] Sandman Viper Command @ Audioblood Party 03/22/2012 by teepoo The last act I caught at the Audioblood Party was Sandman Viper Command . By then, the room was packed and you could feel the awesomness that is a rock concert in a random apartment in the middle of Toronto. Sandman Viper Command- The Metal I've Spent Gallery

[CMW] Ben Caplan @ Audioblood Party 03/22/2012

[CMW] Ben Caplan @ Audioblood Party 03/22/2012 by teepoo If you attended CMW, you might have heard the name Ben Caplan as he played several times throughout the festival including at CN Tower. I caught him at the Audioblood Party with a bassist and a drummer. What an epic beard he has, and man can that dude's voice carry. I loved every time he broke into vocables in a song. in the time of the great remembering by Ben Caplan & The Casual Smokers Gallery

[Interview] Honheehonhee

[Interview] Honheehonhee When I requested to interview Honheehonhee , I did not expect the whole band to show up. They are probably some of the most hilarious guys I have ever met. T: What's the story behind the name Honheehonhee, I heard it was based on the laugh of a squirrel is it true? HH: What? Where did you hear that? We said we would never answer any more questions about our name but we will for you. The name was inspired by the N64 game Conker's Bad [...]

[Interview] Papermaps

PAPERMAPS - Wishful Thinker
On Thursday I had coffee with Dean Marino from Papermaps . For some reason I forgot to snap a photo but here is a cool Southern Souls version of Wishful Thinker . PAPERMAPS - Wishful Thinker from Mitch Fillion (southernsouls.ca) on Vimeo . T: How did you come up with the name Papermaps? DM: We used to be known as EX~PO and it ended up making sense to change our name. Our old name had a tilde in it and a typo [...]

[CMW] Kalle Mattson @ The Rivoli 03/21/2012

[CMW] Kalle Mattson @ The Rivoli 03/21/2012 by teepoo Kalle Mattson was probably my most anticipated performance of the entire CMW and he didn't disappoint. He played old music (included the infamous Thick as Thieves ) and some new songs from the upcoming EP Lives in Between . He even busted out the harmonica! They had a red vinyl version of Anchors on sale at the show and I seriously regret forgetting to pick one up. Kalle Mattson- Waterfalls Gallery
