No, it's not something NASA was forced to do after enduring yet another budget cut. Cancel The Astronauts are a five-piece indie-pop band from Edinburgh, Scotland and are about to release their debut EP, I Am The President Of Your Fanclub (And Last Night I Followed You Home). The somewhat unusual title is appropriate as the bands' songs are about stalking and inappropriateness, but no need to fear them as they are songs that feature nice beats and you can dance to them. Band dudes Matthew Riley, Kieran McCaffrey, Michael Craig, Neil Davidson, and Chris Kay have made some music [...]

Quite a thin week by recent standards actually, but that's no bad thing. Homegame is approaching and a weekend that is easy on the liver and easy on the wallet will be a very good thing. Plus we have to spend it all making up copies of the new Meursault EP, Nothing Broke. Yes, you heard me right. Terribly exciting, wot. It will mark the first offical outing for crowd favourite William Henry Miller Pt.1, albeit an acoustic version of the song, the full version of which will be available along with The Furnace, The Dirt & the Roots and [...]
This week I will finish the live videos for Ten Tracks and eagleowl, to go with the Rob St. John ones here: In other news, the lineup for the Fence Collective's annual liver-bothering get together has been announced , and it's fucking superb: * KING CREOSOTE * MALCOLM MIDDLETON * EAGLEOWL * ROB ST JOHN * SLOW CLUB * BURNS UNIT * THE PICTISH TRAIL * THINGS IN HERDS * CANDYTHIEF * EMMA POLLOCK * JAMES YORKSTON * DAVID THOMAS BROUGHTON * MEURSAULT * DE ROSA * [...]

Sorry for the silence over the last couple of days. Yesterday we recorded the Samamidon Toad Session, which took a while and generally distracted me from the business of writing the blog, so I'm afraid this weekly update is a day late. Which you are just going to have to fucking live with. I'd almost say that there really wasn't much on in Edinburgh this week, but what I would really mean is that there is not much high-profile stuff going on in Edinburgh this week. There are, actually, some very good gigs to be [...]

Last night kippers and I went to see comedian Sean Lock at my local theatre. He was brilliant, by the way (that's Lock, not kippers!). Also attending was an actor who has appeared in many British comedy shows who happens to live in the same town as me. (He was particularly ace in Look Around You .) Today, on the way home from seeing kippers to the station, I found myself shambling down the pavement behind said local actor and I would like to say the following: Dear [...]

Another band from Scotland. Cancel The Astronauts come from Edinburgh. They have their entire 8 track collection of 'Demos' available to download. Having listened to the songs I am somewhat impressed by their indie sound (A little like the Good Shoes and Pulp - in their 'Babies' early 90s incarnation, if you want references). The stand out song for me, is the one with the stand out title 'I am the President of Your Fanclub (and last night I followed you home)' - which is a rather fab piece of pop [...]
