• Mice Parade - Ground As Cold As Common (Live)

The 10th studio album from Mice Parade, an indie/shoegaze group out of New York City,  Candela  puts together an impressive survey of pop and vocal genres. The project of frontman Adam Pierce, Mice Parade is known for the wide array of musical styles from which their influences are drawn. Their songs are often downbeat, cerebral explorations, but their music is also not without a sense of fun. The words "mice parade," for example, are an anagram of Adam Pierce's name. New York post-rock band delivers songs full of sonic experimentation and pop craft. There's a palpable energy simmering under Candela, the new album by adventurous New York band Mice Parade. Listening to these songs, I could almost see multi-instrumentalist and band mastermind Adam Pierce smiling as he jumped from influence to influence, genre to genre, sometimes within the confines of a single song. Growing up with a musically inclined Puerto Rican father meant I was surrounded by Latin beats since a young age. These sounds played an integral part in shaping my sonic preferences and when I saw Funkagenda had taken on Buena Vista Social Club's "Candela," I was intrigued to see what he would do with it. The Bell family from Youngston, Ohio produced three brothers who made immense contributions to the jazz/disco/funk scene in the 70s and 80s. Robert and Ronald Bell formed a group The Jazziacs that eventually became Kool & The Gang. Kevin Bell, also known by his Arabic name Amir Bayyan, formed Kool protege group The Kay Gees. Kevin was a prolific musician and producer, also playing in the group Forecast and producing jams for Armenta, LaToya Jackson, Tomorrow's Edition, and Jimmy Cliff.
