Brooklyn quartet Candidate released, A New Life , their DIY debut album last year. It was a lo-fi, shoegazey 10 track effort that saw them gain a humble but solid fanbase. Their new single, 'April Again', which is to be part of their second effort due for release later this year, steps things up a notch. A fantastically scuzzy guitar melody sits beneath a dreamy vocal that is surrounding by vibey, 602s harmonies. It's the sound of a band making a big leap forward. We'll keep you posted on news about [...]
We caught up with Candidate when they released their debut album A New Life last year. Now relocated to NYC, the band continue draw inspiration from mid '80s British indie, releasing their newest track, 'April Again'. It continues their love affair with this sound while it has a much more uptempo feel, echoing harmonies, ear-catching electric guitar riffs and a very real shimmering aesthetic. A [...]

I haven't tried this out yet, but I have a distinct feeling that Brooklyn's Candidate might provide a pretty good soundtrack for the next international flight you find yourself stuck on. The band's steady spaciness and alt-guitar chug-chug energy could work as an excellent backdrop to aviation... and likewise, the band has some lofty dreams, coming a long way even just since their singles posted from last year. Their newest song, 'April Again,' charts singer Cedric Sparkman's realization of not getting what he wants out of love, while his bandmates' backing vocals provide a down-to-earth muse to [...]

Candidate Candidate has released a great, new track "April Again" which can be heard in this post. Candidate - "April Again" Brooklyn-based band of Cedric Sparkman, Laurence Adams and Jason Matuskiewicz originated in Kentucky prior to their relocation to New York. Chris Infusino then joined the band to complete the current line-up.
With Howard Jones now available for a White Lion reunion, who will be the new vocalist for Killswitch Engage? The obvious answer, of course, would be for the band's original frontman, Jesse Leach, to return to the fold - although there's been no word on such a possibility yet, save for some cryptic comments from [...]
Okay, let's get back into the swing of things with an exciting news update! So much has happened in the world since I penned a proper blog entry, I would be remiss if I didn't at least call attention to some major (okay, mostly marginalized) news stories. By the way, I'm not planning on taking [...]
Another week has ended. If you fellas didn't get your dicks wet, well that's unfortunate. If you ladies didn't go out and hit the bars and settle for less than you deserve, I find that equally disappointing. Either way, sucks for you. Although it could be worse…you could be one of those people who doesn't [...]

While many rappers out there rely on appearance or gimmicks, the Moon Blazers are very sincere and do not pretend to be people they are not. With Candid , this is made all the more obvious, as they present an album that "follows the fluidity of conversation " and " acts like a bridge to [their] thoughts and feelings towards life." Candid, as they underline is "honest sincere expression" and this is clearly what you will find with their latest album. Whether it is with the themes they touch upon or the straightforward, sometimes blunt way they [...]

Moon Blazers Among the groups I became familiar with in the past months or years, Moon Blazers rank quite high on my imaginary list of favourites. They create some beautiful, soothing, feel-good, introspective music that also allows you to have fun while listening and to travel to some kind of fantasy land in search of your inner child. Their new album Candid should drop officially any second now and it is a great pleasure for me to feature this interview, where they tell us more about the music they make, their creative process, this album [...]
There seems to be a huge amount of stages at this year's Electric Picnic each one filled with some of Ireland's best bands. Here's the line-up and a selection of music from the bands on the bill: FRIDAY 14.00-15.45 Will Softly (DJ) 16.00-17.15 Anna and The Infidels 17.30-18.30 Huey and the Hobgoblins [...]
Candidate are Lexington trio Cedric Sparkman, Laurence Adams and Jason Matuskiewicz. American they may be, but their music has a distinctly British edge to it. Their sound reeks of mid to late '80s British indie but is not pretending to be anything else. They have embraced those bands who inspired them for which there are obvious comparisons, [...]
Candidate : Indie pop from NYC that was good enuf for a feature on one of the "big name" "established" blogs . If I like them, too, does that make a joiner? Or just a copy cat? Well, it's okay if you call me a joiner. I think these dudes are pretty cool A New Life (mp3) Bandcamp , where you can stream or buy.

Wyclef Jean will not be Haiti's next president, according to US reports. The 37-year-old did not make the final list of approved candidates, according to American newspaper the Los Angeles Times. An electoral official told the publication that Wyclef did not satisfy the legal requirements to run for president, mainly because he primarily lives in New Jersey and not the Caribbean island. The unnamed official said: "He is not on the list as I speak." The former Fugees star was born in Haiti but moved to New York [...]

Boycott Target! I will never spend another dime in your store Target, and I encourage all of you to do the same. This company has donated 150,000 dollars to a conservative anti gay candidate in Minnesota. Anyone who supports this type of message should be boycotted. Yes, it is their right to do so, and it's my right to say I will not spend another cent in your store. Stop the spread of hatred, and extreme conservatism in this country.
