Attempting to sound like the musical equivalent of a well-kept mature bottle of wine or a 25 year old vintage barrel of whisky, Lance Herbstrong reminds us of their debut LP which opens up those wide & colourful memories and harvests those translucent meadows of Johnny Osbourne uptempo reggae-addictiveness, and Cypress Hill / Stereo MC’s “born-to-fuse-together” blends of connoisseur authority. Leading the way through eleven simplicities of electronic eclecticism, there is enough here for spontaneously arranged evening parties, or full-on back room shindigs that end up so packed - they filter on through to [...]

Marker overlooking the Woodstock Music and Arts Fair grounds near Bethel, NY. There isn't much more to say about Woodstock that we didn't say here , here or here ... but the 43rd anniversary of the historic music festival is coming up this week (Aug. 15-17) and we thought it would be a good opportunity to look back for a few minutes. Why should we celebrate Woodstock? Someone asked that once, then he answered his own question: [...]

A recent discovery of a mix I made a few years back really struck home that I'm fairly bored with music right now. Perhaps music better in 2010; music has better and worse years. Take for example 1978 and 1993, both amazing years for music. Crate diggers know. Or maybe I'm just out of touch. Whatever the fukk it doughnut really mattress. The hand drawn selection of audible peach fuzz you're about to go down on is what I got this week. Dryhump Champions 1 : Jefferson Starship - Miracles (Sunshine Jones Revision) (don lowed) [...]

It may not look like much in the photo, but this is the largest convenience store in the world. In most places around the country, gasoline prices are dipping. You know what that means - summer's here and the time is right for piling the kids and/or the dog into the car for a road trip. We were on the road this past week, and deep in the heart of the Lone Star state we wheeled in to a truly awe-inspiring site: the Buc-ee's truck stop/convenience store just north of New Braunfels, Texas, between [...]

Last fall my mate and I were booked to play THE HARVEST MOON FESTIVAL and I was at a loss for electronic-based material a bunch of hippies would dance to. I can't remember where or how, but I came across LANCE HERBSTRONG a few days before the gig and put three of their tunes in my aresenal. Since then, they've released their first long player and they're about to let another loose. Here's the first single from the trio's upcoming album. You should know however, “many plants have been [...]

This is an ultra-rare remix of the popular Jamiroquai track "Canned Heat," taken off the late Nujabes' Ristorante mixtape. When Canned Heat played the Montreux Festival in 1973, the band was a shadow of its former self. When Alan "Blind Owl" Wilson died in September 1970, possibly having committed suicide, it brought an end to the heyday of his legendary blues-boogie outfit Canned Heat. By the time what was left of the band played the 1973 Montreux Festival, it was crisis point. The group was soon saddled with $30,000 of debt, and drummer Fito de la Parra has written that they imported drugs from Mexico in order to help balance the books...
The latest collection of reviews is a bit of a mish-mash of both quality and style.

Yeah, it was 42 years ago this weekend, more or less. I came upon a child of God, he was walking along the road. And I asked him, "Where are you going?" And this he told me: "Sir, you can park up in the parking lot." He was one of the volunteers who hang around the green, grassy fields where they held the Woodstock Music and Art Fair, about 42 years ago. We drove up there from New York City on a hot July Monday, and we walked through the nice museum and the [...]

No, really, this song makes me want to dance. At the very least, it makes me swivel in my chair. To be frank, I've seen it have a similar effect on others. It's just generally unavoidable. Many of you may be familiar with it from back in the [...]

by Mark Saleski Los Lobos guitarist/accordian player and all around musical polyglot David Hidalgo got together with vocalist Mike Halby (Canned Heat, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers) to create this fantastic chunk 'o blues. Hidalgo, as usual (not only on the Los Lobos records but also on the very cool Latin Playboy's releases) plays every stringed and non-stringed instrument available. The results
Gotta love our Finns. Being the best in the world in hockey is awesome, so here's the coach Pasi Nurminen of Finlands team leaving the aeroplane so beautifully wasted that he falls on the red carpet at Helsinki airport on arrival. But you knew we drink a lot, right? Hockey fans love rock too, so here's a tune to suit the occasion, '67 jam of 11 minutes that has got maybe nothing to do with hockey. GO FINLAND!
