DJ Format ft. Sureshot La Rock - Statement Of Intent Peace readers! Just before Christmas last year I had the great fortune to be able to meet up with DJ Format whilst he was doing a set in my favorite local music establishment ' The Farmhouse ' situated in Canterbury in the UK. Some of you may have heard of Canterbury through the writings of Geoffrey Chaucer widely known as the father of English Literature and the greatest poet of the Middle Ages. All in all a rather fitting city to be [...]

Beams is a Canterbury, England-born, Prague-based producer. His releases are few and far between, but well worth the wait. A few weeks ago he mailed over a Bandcamp link to his most recent release: Patches . It's a collection of new and old tracks from the Beams back catalogue, resulting in a down-tempo, totally enjoyable electronic mixture of sounds. Be on the look out for the physical releases via Dam Mantle 's Growing Records sometime next year. Stream "Trigger Moartis" below and hit the skip to download Patches . [...]
Not available for download but you can stream it. Bullion's album is due out in May and I CANNOT WAIT. PREVIOUSLY Tweet

Bullion has always complemented his releases with sprawling, eclectic mixes, and we were just sent a Canterbury Mix that he's made in support of You Drive Me To Plastic . Canterbury sound is loosely used to describe a group of avant-garde/progressive rock musicians based around Canterbury in the late 602s, and this mix features tracks by Robert Wyatt , Hatfield & The North , Caravan , and Gong . This is by far one [...]

Bullion release the awesome "non-LP" You Drive Me To Plastic next week on Young Turks, and to celebrate he's put together the Canterbury Mix . It features the likes of Robert Wyatt, Gong and Caravan, and you can listen to it right here:

I hope everyone had a happy and green Earth Day this year. Skip the plastic and packaging and download your music. Okay, that's my pitch for the year... on to the mixtape. I've been a busy busy boy- outside this blog of mine, so I'm afraid I've not really put the best effort in this week. No matter, I apparently missed the step of the mixtape process last week where I actually upload the files- and nobody noticed until just two days ago. Thanks to Jeff to pointing out though. It's been fixed since. Anyway, here's this weeks mix, including [...]
"I fell and landed straight at your feet." For better or worse, this song has been invading my every conscious moment for the past few days. Well done, Canterbury . The young band from England's South coast just released their new track "Gloria" earlier this month as a free download. The song, the chorus especially, is a great bit of standard pop/rock that I am very to happy to have stumbled upon. Download the band's older album Thank [...]

Speeding through leafy trees and Paddock Woods to the far end of the sprawling Kentish countryside, the light at the end of the seemingly infinite tunnel is old Geoffrey Chaucer's prime dormitory hangout, Canterbury. Promenading through tunnels and rolling fields of barley, the setting's quintessentially British, the weather atypically sweltering. This year's LOTF keeps it within the family, the line up composed almost universally of home-grown innovative indie, from Southend garage punksters-turned-shoegazers The Horrors , off-kilter Foals-approved groove mongers The Invisible and Archbishop of UK Hip-Hop Roots Manuva . That said, bar Sunday night home runner [...]

Ever so arty... Clichés? Yes please. Six-foot crops loike them there ones in thaat M. Night Shyamalan filum. Beautiful 'til trampled by runts. The culprit for the collapse of the Strange House. Not everyone hated on it- see Gloves and Draw Japan for former glories. Rockstars require gym memberships these days. Those guns could certainly snap a Donny Tourette chicken leg or two. Dougy Mandagi in all his wife-beating glory. [...]

A friend introduced me to The Answering Machine a couple of days ago. His way of selling it to me wasn't great, but when I checked them out I realised he actually was telling the truth - they're pretty good. Then I found the picture at the top of this post, and decided that any guitar band that can get out glitter and sport the nerd-chic glasses that bassist Gemma is wearing is ace in my books. The Manchester-based four-piece have spent much of 2008 holed-up in North Yorkshire working on their debut album [...]
