"Vesper" di Leonard Mynx è stato uno degli album che ho amato di più lo scorso anno. Torno a scrivere dell'artista residente a Portland, perchè il chitarrista che l'accompagna, Nathan Clark, ha pubblicato, con il moniker di On The Stairs, un album d'esordio - autoprodotto - intitolato "Beyond A Shadow Of A Doubt", davvero molto [...]

Lots of albums are marketed with hefty claims to be something new, but few of them actually are. Where To Swim by Portland band Carcrashlander might proof to be the peak of their career in later years - that one time when everything just works like a charm. Led by songwriter Cory Gray who plays keyboards and horns (and bass on one track) the songs flow like a river on a glorious summer day. Mind you, the lyrics are pretty dark at times but the guitar licks and lazy keyboards will lift the dread [...]

First coming to our attention on the strength of their stunning, ShutEye Unison CD, Parks and Records is the little label that could, combining their love of the great outdoors and indy music. The label was started by young lovers Jon and Mimi Fee whose mission is to build a community of like-minded musicians and fans, release passionate indie-pop/ noise-rock albums, reduce waste through 100% recycled/reused packaging, and support organizations dedicated to making our planet greener. With all that said, we couldn't wait to get John from Parks and Records to come on over to the Ripple Office and [...]
I always wonder if artists think their fans are annoying. I tweet at artists all the time and sometimes they reply. This week I had to rappers tweet at me. Well, one of the re-tweeted me. People like Cage and MC Paul Barman who write back are so awesome. Thanks for being cool with the fans guys. I already could personally relate to the music but to see a real side seals the deal for me.

Carcrashlander Mountains on Our Backs Jealous Butcher Myspace: www.myspace.com/carcrashlander I keep wanting to say "dreamy landscapes" in relation to Carcrashlander's new Mountains On Our Backs. It's hard to get a reviewer to use those words in real life, plus it usually evokes some really melodic electronic weird sound atmospheric. "Dreamy landscapes" works for Carcrashlander if the dream is about a slow sink into quicksand. All of this means that Cory Gray (formerly of Desert City Soundtrack) moves independently of most modern post-rock constructs--their [...]

You read correctly. It is indeed time, once again, for our (free!) live interview-and-intimate set event, the Portland Lounge Series . This Sunday, June 29, at the Towne Lounge (714 SW 20th Place), yours truly will be chatting with Adam Shearer, the ever-charismatic frontman of dark Americana outfit Weinland, charming/cute country crooner Shelley Short and ubiquitous trumpeter-about-town Cory Gray, whose band Carcrashlander will rock your socks off to finish out the night. You'll get to know each of these talented Portlanders a bit better on Sunday night, but let's meet 'em in brief right now: [...]

I loved doing the year-end best-of stuff, but it's so great to start a new year and look forward! There's so many new releases right now, I've only scratched the surface this week. If this were my job, I'd write "I love my job" right here, without "quotes." artist - song - album :: extra info Kate Nash - Pumpkin Soup - Made of Bricks ( website | myspace | Pumpkin Soup video ) Thao Nguyen & the Get Down Stay Down - [...]
